  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Back from IL

The Dodgers activated Ryu (groin) from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Saturday against the Brewers.

With Ryu back from the IL, the Dodgers will shift Julio Urias back to the bullpen to clear a rotation spot for the lefty. Though Ryu has received a clean bill of health after the recent bout with the groin issue, he might not make for the most comfortable option in DFS and season-long leagues with daily moves while facing a tough Brewers offense at hitter-friendly Miller Park.

  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: Gets Game 2 of twin bill

Toussaint is scheduled to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Indians.

Toussaint's first start of 2019 was only delayed by one day due to Friday's postponement. Julio Teheran will take the hill for the Braves in the afternoon side of the twin bill while Toussaint matches up with Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer in the nightcap.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: May return next weekend

The Mets are hopeful deGrom (elbow) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list next weekend to make a start in the team's three-game series with the Brewers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

DeGrom's outlook seems to have taken a major turn for the better in the last 24 hours. It was reported a day ago that deGrom would receive an MRI on Monday after his elbow acted up in a throwing session, but the Mets are now considering cancelling those exams. DeGrom was cleared to play catch in the outfield Saturday and relayed that he felt completely normal during the workout, according to Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports. Assuming the Mets concur with deGrom's self-assessment, he may just receive a routine evaluation from team doctors when the Mets return to New York on Monday, rather than undergoing the MRI. If nothing concerning is detected at that time, deGrom could get the green light for a bullpen session a couple days later before his availability for the Milwaukee series is determined.

Mets' Jacob deGrom: May forgo MRI

Manager Mickey Callaway said that deGrom (elbow) may not require the MRI that the right-hander was slated to undergo Monday, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.

The update comes after deGrom was spotted playing catch on the outfield prior to the Mets' game Saturday against the Cardinals. The right-hander was expected to be shut down from throwing until he had the MRI, but the Mets' team doctors apparently signed off on the ace taking part in some light activity. That development offers optimism that even if deGrom ends up receiving the MRI, any scans may just be precautionary more than anything else. He remains on the 10-day injured list and won't be eligible to return until April 26, but it's still unclear if he'll be on track for activation in the minimum amount of time.

  • Chris Flexen RP | CHC

    Mets' Chris Flexen: Promotion official

The Mets formally recalled Flexen from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of his scheduled start Saturday against the Cardinals.

As expected, Flexen will move up to the big club as the replacement in the rotation for Jacob deGrom (elbow), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday. DeGrom will undergo an MRI on Monday, which should provide more information regarding the length of his stay on the IL. With a day off coming up April 25, the Mets would be able to get by without a replacement for deGrom until April 30 versus the Reds if need be. With that in mind, there's a decent chance Flexen is sent down to the minors after Saturday's outing to afford the Mets more roster flexibility over the next week and a half.

Mets' Chris Flexen: Filling in for deGrom

The Mets will recall Flexen from Triple-A Syracuse to start Saturday's game against the Cardinals, SNYtv.com reports.

Flexen will have huge shoes to fill, as he'll be tasked with replacing Jacob deGrom, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday after experiencing complications with his elbow in a recent throwing session. DeGrom is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, at which point it should be known whether a replacement for him will be needed beyond this weekend. The Mets aren't exactly teeming with quality rotation depth in the high minors, so Flexen might only need to avoid a complete implosion Saturday to earn another start if deGrom is in fact out for more than the minimum amount of time. Flexen yielded seven runs over 12 innings in his first two starts of the season for Syracuse but posted a sterling 18:3 K:BB.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Officially starting Saturday

Manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Anderson would serve as the Brewers' starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Anderson was always viewed as the leading candidate to enter the rotation when Freddy Peralta (shoulder) was moved to the injured list Tuesday, but it wasn't known whether the Brewers would use the right-hander as a traditional starter or as the primary pitcher behind an opener. Counsell has now provided more clarity regarding the Brewers' plans, but the decision probably won't have much of an impact on Anderson's overall workload Saturday. Anderson has topped out at 43 pitches during his five relief appearances this season and was used out of the bullpen four days ago, so it would be surprising if he worked deep into his first start of 2019.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Escapes serious damage at home

Marquez didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Phillies, giving up two runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings while striking out five.

Philly had at least one runner in scoring position in every inning against Marquez, but the right-hander was able to limit the damage thanks largely to 17 swinging strikes among his 95 pitches (67 total strikes). He'll take a 2.25 ERA and 30:8 K:BB through 32 innings into his next start Wednesday, at home against the Nats.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Solid in no-decision

Velasquez didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Rockies, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings while striking out eight.

The right-hander held Colorado off the scoreboard for five innings but fell one out shy of his second straight quality start, throwing 66 of 97 pitches for strikes and generating a whopping 19 swinging strikes before getting lifted after running into trouble in the sixth. Velasquez will take a 2.55 ERA and 16:4 K:BB through 17.2 innings into his next outing Wednesday, on the road against the Mets.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Makes more progress Friday

Martinez (shoulder) threw approximately 40 pitches from flat ground at a distance of about 60 feet Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Martinez's session reportedly went off without issues and came in the wake of successful bullpens over the last week. The right-hander is set for another 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday, after which he'll be evaluated for a more aggressive side session or a trip down to the Cardinals' facility in Jupiter, Florida for live batting practice.
