  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: Will start Monday vs. Red Sox

Toussaint will start Monday's game against the Red Sox, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

When Toussaint was summoned from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, it was largely assumed that he would report to the bullpen and provide the Braves with a high-upside relief arm for its potential run to the postseason. That could ultimately be the plan for Toussaint, but he'll first make his second MLB start as the Braves appear set to at least temporarily deploy a six-man rotation. Toussaint impressed in his first outing with the Braves on Aug. 13 -- he tossed six innings of one-run ball in a win over the Marlins -- but he'll face a much stiffer test Monday when he faces the majors' top offense in terms of wRC+ (112).

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Activation expected Monday

Eickhoff (lat) said that he expects to be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list ahead of Monday's game against the Marlins, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

Eickhoff spent all of August on a minor-league rehab assignment, making six starts in total and most recently covering five innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday. Rather than bringing Eickhoff off the DL when rosters expanded Saturday, the Phillies have opted to wait a couple days to make the move since the right-hander wouldn't be available so soon after the rehab start. Though all 65 of his career appearances with Philadelphia have come as a starter, Eickhoff is expected to transition into a long-relief role upon rejoining the big club.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Shines in Triple-A rehab start

Wainwright (elbow) fired five scoreless innings in Triple-A Memphis' win over Nashville on Saturday, scattering five hits and issuing two walks while recording seven strikeouts.

This likely was Wainwright's final rehab appearance, and if so, he certainly heads back to the majors with plenty of confidence. The veteran right-hander worked up to 90 pitches, easily his largest workload of his five minor-league outings. Wainwright threw 17 scoreless frames overall during his rehab stint while recording an impressive 23 strikeouts. Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that Wainwright is scheduled to be back in St. Louis on Sunday to meet with team officials about their plans for him for the remainder of the season. Those are believed to include a start on the Cardinals' upcoming road trip following his activation at some point in the coming week.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Recalled ahead of Monday's start

The Brewers recalled Davies from Low-A Wisconsin on Sunday.

After spending the minimum 10 days in the minors and tossing a complete-game shutout for Wisconsin on Aug. 27, Davies will rejoin the Brewers and is scheduled to start Monday's series opener against the Cubs. It will mark Davies' first outing with the big club since May 29 after a right rotator cuff injury sidelined him for the better part of three months. With the Brewers acquiring Gio Gonzalez to bolster their pitching ranks over the weekend, Davies may need to submit a quality outing Monday in order to preserve his rotation spot throughout the season's final month.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Side session on tap

Wacha (oblique) will throw a side session Sunday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander is also coming off a Saturday bullpen session, which apparently went off without any issues. Wacha will be reevaluated following Sunday's workload to determine if he's ready to return to the rehab assignment that was cut short last Tuesday when he felt some discomfort in a start for Double-A Springfield.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Claims win in relief

Maeda (8-8) was the pitcher of record in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks after striking out two in a perfect eighth inning.

After being bumped from the rotation in mid-August, Maeda immediately emerged as a top option to close for the Dodgers while Kenley Jansen was sidelined with an irregular heartbeat. Jansen was reinstated from the disabled list earlier than anticipated and has since reclaimed closing duties, but Maeda looks like he may continue to fill in important role in the bullpen as one of manager Dave Roberts' most-trusted setup arms. Since transitioning to relief, Maeda has given up two runs over six innings while striking out nine and recording a win and a save.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Five scoreless innings

Corbin allowed three hits and a walk while striking out seven across five scoreless innings Saturday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.

Corbin had a short outing despite not allowing a run as the Dodgers recorded four at-bats in which he threw seven or more pitches. However, he was still able to rack up strikeouts and has now recorded at least seven in eight consecutive starts. Corbin has already set a career-best strikeout total and is almost certain to post his best ERA and WHIP in a single season, barring a collapse in the final month of the season.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Allows two earned runs

Kershaw allowed two earned runs on four hits and no walks while striking out three across seven innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks. He did not factor into the decision.

Kershaw's final line is fairly impressive, but his lack of strikeouts and swinging strikes -- he generated only eight on 91 pitches -- are worth noting. Perhaps more importantly, Kershaw's average fastball velocity was at 90.8 mph, his third consecutive start around that mark. He's shown the ability to be effective with decreased pace on the pitch -- he stuck out seven and nine batters in the other two outings -- but his continued decreased velocity is worth monitoring as the season draws to a close.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Grabs 11th win

Gray (11-7) allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out one across six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Padres.

Gray limited the Padres to only two runs, both of which came on solo home runs by Hunter Renfroe. While he was effective at preventing runs, there have been several concerning trends in his recent starts as he has now allowed at least one home run in seven consecutive outings. Additionally, he has just two strikeouts across his last 12.2 innings pitched, and while that's a small sample, he has generated only nine swinging strikes across 177 pitches in that span.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Works five innings in no-decision

Anderson gave up one run in five innings Saturday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out one in a no-decision against the Nationals.

Milwaukee eventually fell to Washington after an extended rain delay and late Nationals rally, though Anderson gutted out a useful outing to set up Milwaukee for a win upon his exit. The right-hander will often disappoint in the K column -- he hasn't recorded more than six since June 23, a stretch of 11 outings -- but can still deliver useful stats in the right matchup. His outlook feels brighter heading into his next turn, a Friday home effort versus the Giants.
