Jameson Taillon SP | TOR
Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Fans seven en route to 11th win
Taillon (11-9) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out seven in a 3-2 victory over the Braves.
Both runs scored on solo homers, but otherwise it was another strong performance from Taillon as he delivered his seventh straight quality start while posting a 2.64 ERA and 37:9 K:BB over 47.2 innings during that stretch. He'll look to keep things rolling when he next takes the mound Wednesday at home against the Reds.

Jake Thompson SP | PHI
Brewers' Jake Thompson: Designated for assignment
Thompson was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Friday.
The move frees up a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Gio Gonzalez, who was acquired from the Nationals via trade Friday. Thompson has appeared solely for Triple-A Colorado Springs since joining the Brewers, posting a shiny 1.69 ERA across 5.1 innings before being DFA'd. He'll likely report back to the SkySox if he passes through waivers untouched.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Fans seven in quality start
Quintana allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven across six innings Friday against the Phillies. He didn't factor into the decision.
Quintana was sharp throughout this one, firing 58 of his 88 pitches for strikes while allowing just one extra-base hit before exiting. It was just his second quality start in six outings in August, though the southpaw still owns a serviceable 4.05 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over that stretch. He'll carry a 4.33 ERA into his next start, which will come on the road against the Brewers.

Ross Stripling SP | KC
Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Fires bullpen Friday
Stripling (back) threw a bullpen session Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Everything apparently went off without a hitch, though manager Dave Roberts refused to comment on what Stripling's next step would be, leaving his possible return date up in the air.

Michael Wacha SP | KC
Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Bullpen session scheduled for Saturday
Wacha (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Saturday as he works his way back from a recent setback, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Wacha had his rehab start Tuesday cut short and now may face a difficult time building back up to a starter's workload before the end of the season. It's unclear whether that will force the Cardinals to move him into a relief role for the stretch run. He new timetable should become clearer once the Cardinals see how he responds to his bullpen session.

Sammy Solis SP | SD
Nationals' Sammy Solis: Brought back to big leagues
Solis was recalled by the Nationals on Friday, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
The 30-year-old will take the bullpen spot previously occupied by Ryan Madson, who was sent to the Dodgers, but he'll presumably be working in a lower-leverage role. Solis has a 5.24 ERA in 34.1 innings with the Nationals this season. His solid 24.8 percent strikeout rate more or less cancels out an unimpressive 10.1 percent walk rate, leading to a palatable 4.38 FIP, but he's unlikely to be anywhere near the closer conversation.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Next start pushed back
Flaherty's will not take the mound Sunday against the Reds in order to receive an extra day of rest, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Flaherty will likely take the mound Monday in Washington for the series opener instead, something that manager Mike Shildt hinted at Thursday. With Flaherty already at 122.1 innings in the big leagues this season -- with an additional 31.2 at Triple-A Memphis -- Shildt and the Cardinals' brass want to make sure that the 22-year-old is not being overused in his rookie campaign. This move lines Flaherty up for two starts next week. Luke Weaver will fill in and pitch Sunday's game versus Cincinnati.

Corbin Burnes SP | ARI
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Getting back on track
Burnes tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in Thursday's victory over the Reds.
Burnes pitched the ninth inning Thursday, but only because the game was tied and manager Craig Counsell wanted to save some of the relievers ahead of him in the bullpen pecking order for extra innings. He came through as expected, and after a rough patch in the middle of the month, is dominating again -- over his last four outings, Burnes has thrown 7.2 innings and allowed no runs and just three hits with a 6:3 K:BB.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Could see next start pushed back
Flaherty, who's scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Reds, could see his next start pushed back a day, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Manager Mike Shildt conceded Thursday that he's considering building in an extra day of rest for the young right-hander. Luke Weaver or Tyson Ross would be the leading bullpen candidates to make a spot start Sunday if those plans came to pass. More definitive word on the Cardinals' weekend rotation plans should emerge at some point Friday.

Michael Wacha SP | KC
Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Cleared to resume throwing
Wacha (oblique) was cleared to resume playing catch Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Wacha was examined by team doctors Wednesday and was given the go-ahead to resume throwing. He'll proceed to throwing off a mound in a bullpen session if all goes well Friday, and he could make another rehab start next week if he remains free of setbacks. Wacha had worked up to 52 pitches by the time he exited his start for Double-A Springfield last Tuesday, so he'll likely attempt to hit the 70-75 pitch range if he does toe the rubber in the minors on at least one more occasion.
