  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Will work from bullpen for now

Woodruff will pitch out of the Brewers' bullpen for the time being, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

Woodruff's last two appearances for the Brewers were both starts, and he had his best outing of the season his last time out, giving up only a two-run home run and no other hits over five innings while picking up his second win of 2018. However, with Chase Anderson coming off the disabled list Monday and Zach Davies (shoulder) doing the same soon, a couple pitchers needed to be removed from the rotation, and Woodruff -- along with Freddy Peralta -- was one of them. Woodruff will garner consideration next time the Brewers need to add a starter into the rotation, and because of that, the team could decide to send him back to Triple-A at some point in order to keep him stretched out.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Throws pain-free Monday

Martinez (lat) played long toss Monday, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.

This is an encouraging step for Martinez, as the Cardinals' ace said he didn't experience any pain while throwing for the first time since landing on the disabled list with a lat strain earlier in the month. He's still not sure when he'll be cleared for mound work, however, leaving his possible return date up in the air.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Expected to return Thursday

Davies (shoulder) is expected to start Thursday against the Mets, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Davies has been on the 10-day disabled list for most of May, but it sounds like he'll be activated ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Mets after getting through a minor-league rehab start with no issues over the weekend. The Brewers will likely wait and see how he feels after a between-starts bullpen session Tuesday, but the 25-year-old is trending towards rejoining Milwaukee's rotation later this week. Prior to landing on the shelf, Davies compiled a 4.24 ERA across six starts. His return to the rotation likely means that either Brent Suter or Brandon Woodruff will be sent to the bullpen.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Rehab put on hold

Eickhoff (lat) was shut down after feeling a twinge in the fingertips of his right index and middle fingers, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

Eickhoff apparently felt the issue while throwing a curveball during his most recent rehab start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. While specifics regarding the issue remain unclear at this point, it should be noted that the 27-year-old dealt with a similar injury last season and was shut down for the final month of the campaign as a result. Eickhoff's rehab assignment is currently on hold while he is evaluated.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Sent to minors

Peralta was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday.

While Peralta held his own in his first two major-league starts, he'll head back to the minors in order to clear a roster spot for Chase Anderson (illness), who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. The 21-year-old prospect struggled to throw strikes at times, walking eight batters across 9.2 innings, but his 18 strikeouts over that same stretch offers a glimpse of the youngster's potential. Peralta will join the Sky Sox's rotation for now, but he could find his way back to Milwaukee relatively soon given his first showing in the majors. Still, he will not necessarily be the top option and the Brewers' rotation is getting healthy, so it's tough to guess exactly when his next call-up will come.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Activated from disabled list

Anderson (illness) was activated from the disabled list in order to start Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Anderson was sidelined just over two weeks by a stomach ailment, but he is ready to rejoin the Brewers' rotation, and will do so right way Monday night. Anderson was tagged for nine earned runs in 10.2 innings over his last two starts, but he should enjoy seeing his old team, given the 1.88 ERA he has posted against the Diamondbacks over four career starts.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Activated ahead of Monday's start

Anderson (illness) was activated from the 10-day disabled list and will start against the Diamondbacks on Monday.

As expected, Anderson will rejoin the Brewers' rotation for Monday's series opener after a bout of food poisoning forced him onto the disabled list. The 30-year-old, who owns a 3.97 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across eight starts (45.1 innings) this season, will matchup against Zack Greinke in his first game back. Freddy Peralta was sent to the minors in a corresponding roster move.

  • Marlins' Odrisamer Despaigne: Back from DL

Despaigne (forearm) was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list Monday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Despaigne has been on the disabled list since April 20 with forearm tightness, but he's set to rejoin the Marlins after getting through a minor-league rehab appearance with no issues last week. The 31-year-old, who compiled a 6.14 ERA across 14.2 innings with the big club prior to landing on the shelf, should slide back into a low-leverage role out of the Marlins' bullpen now that he's healthy. Dillon Peters was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding roster move.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Mets' David Peterson: Whiffs seven in Sunday's start

Peterson gave up two runs (one earned) and struck out seven over seven innings in his start Sunday for Low-A Columbia in its 2-1 loss to Charleston.

It was yet another strong showing from Peterson, who has submitted a 1.91 ERA and 1.02 WHIP and has yielded just one home run in 37.2 innings this season. The Mets' 2017 first-round pick is lauded for his deep repertoire and strike-throwing ability, though his lack of a big fastball probably limits his ceiling to that of a mid-rotation starter.

  • Sixto Sanchez SP | MIA

Phillies' Sixto Sanchez: Building up workload

Sanchez eclipsed the 90-pitch and 100-pitch marks for the first time in his last two starts for High-A Clearwater, The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

The Phillies have managed Sanchez's workload carefully, as he's the youngest player in the Florida State League at just 19 years old. He threw just 95 total innings last season and lasted six innings in just six of his 18 starts. This year, he's gone six innings in four of his first six outings, and the performances have been encouraging. He owns a 3.21 ERA, striking out 20.7 percent of batters while walking just 6.2 percent. He's yet to allow a home run and has only allowed two in 208.1 career minor-league innings. The promising young righty is living up to expectations as his workload increases and is likely due for a promotion to Double-A Reading sometime this summer.
