  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Sent to disabled list with shoulder inflammation

Davies was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with right rotator cuff inflammation.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as there had been no word of any injury following Davies' solid outing against the Cubs in his last start. Fortunately, the move appears to be precautionary, as the Brewers are only expecting the right-hander to miss one start while on the shelf. The move is retroactive to Monday, so Davies will be eligible to return May 10. The Brewers will simply push their rotation up by a day to account for Davies' absence, with Junior Guerra, Jhoulys Chacin and Chase Anderson now lined up for the team's three-game series against the Pirates. Seeing as Milwaukee is working with another off-day Monday, the team can simply stick with a four-man rotation until Davies is activated, assuming that happens when -- or shortly after -- he's first eligible. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to Friday's series opener against the Pirates.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Pair of homers lead to second loss

Williams (4-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits and a walk across 5.2 innings Thursday against the Nationals. He struck out three.

Williams allowed just two baserunners through the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Facing the Nationals' lineup for the third time through, the 26-year-old served up a pair of homers to Trea Turner and Ryan Zimmerman before getting the hook with two outs. It marked just the second time Williams was unable to finish six innings and the first time he allowed three or more runs through seven starts this season. While he hasn't missed many bats this season (5.7 K/9), his ability to limit hard contact (0.7 HR/9) has resulted in a solid 2.63 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through 41 frames. He'll look to keep up his strong start to the season in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the White Sox.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Set to replace Ryu in rotation

Buehler will replace Hyun-Jin Ryu (groin) in the starting rotation, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

With Ryu expected to be sidelined into the second half of the season, the Dodgers will turn to Buehler to fill the void in their rotation. The 23-year-old, who is scheduled to start Friday against the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico, has already made a pair of starts for the big-league club this season, posting a 1.80 ERA and 11:4 K:BB across 10 innings. According to J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News, Buehler may not pitch every fifth day with the Dodgers looking to limit his innings, but it sounds like he should be afforded semi-regular turns in the rotation while Ryu is on the shelf.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Expects to be out until second half

Manager Dave Roberts said that Ryu (groin) likely won't return until after the All-Star break, Alanna Rizzo of SportsNet LA reports.

This is a big blow to the Dodgers, as Ryu had looked sharp in his first few starts this season (2.12 ERA, 36:10 K:BB in 29.2 innings pitched). As if the statement by Roberts wasn't enough to display the severity, Pedro Moura of The Athletic Los Angeles reports that tests revealed that Ryu's groin muscle tore completely off of the bone. Walker Buehler will replace him in the rotation. Look for a more concrete timetable for Ryu's return to emerge as he ramps up his activity again.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Heads to DL

Ryu (groin) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday.

Ryu recorded just four outs before exiting Wednesday's start, so it comes as little surprise that he'll head to the disabled list. The severity of the issue is still unknown, so it's tough to pinpoint a timetable for his return at this time. Yimi Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill his spot on the active roster.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: MRI reveals no damage; could start Monday

DeGrom's MRI revealed no ligament or structural damage in his arm or elbow and he will play catch Friday in the hopes of making his next scheduled start against the Reds on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

DeGrom was lifted from Wednesday's start with a hyperextended right elbow after throwing four scoreless innings versus the Braves. Fortunately, it appears as though the right-hander received a batch of good news and avoided any serious injury. The Mets released a statement saying that deGrom "will be monitored for soreness and other possible symptoms" so consider him day-to-day ahead of Monday's projected outing. Manager Mickey Callaway further explained that the culprit seemed to be an inflamed muscle that was irritated during deGrom's at-bat in the third inning, according to David Lennon of Newsday. Prior to the Mets' press conference Thursday morning, the New York Daily News reported that deGrom was expected to miss "at least four starts" as a result of the injury. Further details on his status for Monday's start should surface after he plays catch Friday.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Takes hill against Mets

Teheran (back) will pitch against the Mets on Thursday.

Teheran was forced to exit his previous start Friday due to upper-back tightness, but the right-hander experienced no problems this week and doesn't appear to be facing any restrictions during Thursday's outing. Over six starts in 2018, he's logged a 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with a 29:16 K:BB in 30 innings.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Takes rough loss against Milwaukee

Castillo (1-4) allowed two runs on nine hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over six innings but still took the loss Wednesday night against the Brewers.

Castillo bounced back from a disastrous one-inning, five-run start last time out against the Twins with his best start of the season. Unfortunately, the Reds' offense was only able to give him one run of support. Still, this was just Castillo's second quality start of the season, and for the first time in weeks he was able to stay nasty (21 swinging strikes) without sacrificing control. Castillo's 4.1 BB/9 entering Wednesday's start was a major factor holding him back. This start can be a template for success for Castillo, but he still has to show he can follow it consistently.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Excellent in season debut against Reds

Miley (1-0) held the Reds to just one run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts through six innings to pick up the win Wednesday night.

Miley averaged just 91.5 mph on his fastball, but he mixed speeds fantastically, as he used five different pitches and used the fastball just 33 times out of 97 pitches. His cutter was particularly nasty, as it drew four whiffs on 33 offerings. As bad as the Reds have been this year, it hasn't been the offense's fault -- their 4.1 runs per game average ranks ninth out of 15 NL teams. It's easy to dismiss Miley's performance due to the record of his opponent, but holding the Reds to one run at cozy Great American Ball Park is still no small feat. At the very least, this performance should be enough to earn Miley more run in the Brewers' rotation.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Diagnosed with strained groin

Ryu exited Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks with a strained left groin, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Ryu had recorded just four outs -- two via strikeout -- without allowing a run before his leg buckled as he landed after a pitch to Deven Marrero. He attempted to stretch his legs but promptly shook his head and exited the game with a trainer. The 31-year-old will likely undergo an MRI in the coming days to determine the severity of the issue.
