  • Chase Petty P | CIN

Reds' Chase Petty: Another start awaits

Petty is listed as the Reds' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Guardians in Cincinnati.

After being called up from Triple-A Louisville last weekend, Petty made his second MLB start in a 6-0 loss to the Astros on Sunday, when he was charged with four earned runs on six hits and six walks over four innings. Though he now holds a 21.94 ERA and 3.94 WHIP through his first two big-league outings, Petty will nonetheless get a second straight turn through the rotation while the Reds are short on appealing alternatives following Hunter Greene's (groin) recent move to the injured list. Rhett Lowder (forearm) has made two rehab starts and could be ready to return from the IL by the end of the month, so Petty may be at risk of losing his spot with the big club if he continues to languish Saturday and in any other starts that might follow.

  • Pirates' Anthony Solometo: Shelved with shoulder issue

Double-A Altoona placed Solometo on the 60-day injured list May 7 with a left shoulder injury.

He logged a 0.90 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 10 innings across his first two starts, but he hasn't pitched since April 12. Solometo has a deceptive delivery from the left side, which will have to make up for modest overall stuff if he is to make it as a starting pitcher.

  • Zander Mueth SP | PIT

Pirates' Zander Mueth: On IL at Single-A

Single-A Bradenton placed Mueth on the 7-day injured list April 13 with an undisclosed injury.

There's no official report on his injury, but Anthony Murphy of Bucs on Deck reports that Mueth threw a pitch in his April 13 start and then looked to be in pain, holding around his armpit on his throwing side, so this could end up being a serious arm injury. Mueth was charged with three earned runs without recording an out in that final appearance, and he gave up five earned runs in four innings in his first start for the Marauders, so he sits with an 18.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in four innings. The No. 67 overall pick in 2023, Mueth has big-time strikeout stuff, but he walked more batters (24) than he struck out (23) in 22.2 innings at Single-A in 2024.

  • Sem Robberse SP | STL

Cardinals' Sem Robberse: Shifted to full-season IL

Robberse (undisclosed) has been transferred to the full-season injured list at Triple-A Memphis.

It's unclear what injury Robberse is dealing with, but he dealt with an elbow injury in the second half last season. The 23-year-old is on the Cardinals' 40-man roster but has yet to make his major-league debut. He's posted a 4.96 ERA and 139:59 K:BB over 134.1 innings at the Triple-A level.

  • Mick Abel P | MIN

Phillies' Mick Abel: Figuring out Triple-A

Abel has a 1.96 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB in 41.1 innings over his last seven starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Abel's first start of the year was in line with his work at Triple-A in the past -- he gave up four runs on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings March 30 -- but he has been dialed in since. The Phillies have a healthy and productive big-league rotation, but Abel looks like a post-hype option if they have need of a spot starter or injury fill-in before Andrew Painter is ready.

  • Brian Holiday SP | STL

Cardinals' Brian Holiday: Placed on full-season IL

The Florida Complex League Cardinals placed Holiday (undisclosed) on the full-season injured list May 3.

It's not clear what injury Holiday is dealing with, but it will prevent him from making his professional debut this season. The 21-year-old was a third-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

  • Padres' Kash Mayfield: Exits outing with sore shoulder

Mayfield was removed from Tuesday's start at Single-A Lake Elsinore due to left shoulder discomfort, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

It's not clear how long Mayfield might be sidelined, but the Padres will be careful with one of their best pitching prospects. The 20-year-old southpaw has posted a 4.87 ERA and 27:9 K:BB over 20.1 innings this season in his first pro campaign.

  • Brewers' Logan Henderson: Recalled ahead of start

The Brewers recalled Henderson from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Henderson will start Wednesday's contest in Cleveland. The rookie right-hander was dynamite in a spot start in his major-league debut last month against the Athletics, tossing six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts. Wednesday's outing is likely to be just a spot start for Henderson, but it's possible he could convince the Brewers to keep him around if he pitches well.

  • Ben Brown SP | CHC

Cubs' Ben Brown: Fans six in no-decision

Brown came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The right-hander gave up two singles in the top of the sixth before getting lifted after 72 pitches (56 strikes), denying him a shot at his third quality start of the season. Brown has helped steady an injury-ravaged Cubs rotation in May, posting a 2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB through 16.1 innings over three outings, and if the 25-year-old maintains his control gains, he could be headed for a breakout campaign. Brown is scheduled for a rematch with the Marlins early next week in Miami for his next start.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: No-decision in short outing

Bellozo came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Cubs, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk over four-plus innings. He struck out two.

Bellozo pitched into the fifth inning but got the hook after 74 pitches (46 strikes) when the first two Chicago hitters reached base on a hit by pitch and an Eric Wagaman throwing error. The right-hander has provided effective rotation depth in May, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB through 14 innings over three outings, but with Ryan Weathers (forearm) set to come off the IL on Wednesday, Bellozo could be headed back to Triple-A Jacksonville.
