The Cardinals designated Fedde for assignment Wednesday.

Fedde had been pummeled for 26 runs while posting an 8:11 K:BB over 17.2 innings over his last five starts, bringing his ERA up to 5.22 on the season. The veteran right-hander is likely to clear waivers and eventually become a free agent, with the Cardinals remaining on the hook for what's left of his $7.5 million salary. Michael McGreevy will replace Fedde in the St. Louis rotation.

The Twins placed Festa on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right shoulder inflammation.

Festa struggled in his most recent start Monday against the Dodgers, allowing three home runs and four runs over 5.1 innings. It's not clear, however, whether his shoulder was bothering him during the outing. The right-hander will be eligible for activation Aug. 6, but the Twins won't have a clear idea regarding when he might return until he starts throwing again.

The Rockies recalled Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Gordon will start Wednesday's contest against the Cardinals at Coors Field and will have a chance to make additional turns through the rotation with the big club while German Marquez (biceps) is on the 15-day injured list. The right-hander has made three starts with Colorado this season, posting a 4.24 ERA and 10:3 K:BB over 17 frames.

The Rockies placed Marquez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right biceps tendinitis.

Marquez was removed from his latest start in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Twins due to the injury. He will be eligible to return Aug. 5, but given the nature of the injury and the Rockies' place in the standings, there's a good chance that the right-hander will be on the shelf beyond the minimum 15 days. Tanner Gordon was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move and will replace Marquez in the rotation.

Urquidy (elbow) threw a 30-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday at the Tigers' spring facility in Lakeland, Fla., Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Urquidy faced hitters for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2024. The right-hander will need to face hitters on several more occasions before the Tigers send him out on what will most likely be an extended minor-league rehab assignment. Urquidy is unlikely to return from the 60-day injured list until around mid-to-late August.

The Tigers selected Melton's contract from Triple-A Toledo ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Pirates at PNC Park.

Detroit placed ace Tarik Skubal (personal) on the paternity list to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for Melton, who will be making his MLB debut Wednesday. As a result of Melton's addition, the Tigers will be running out a six-man rotation this week, but expect the team to scale back to five men once Skubal returns from the paternity list to start Saturday versus Toronto. Whether Melton sticks around for additional starts will likely hinge on how he performs Wednesday, as well as how incumbent No. 5 starter Keider Montero fares in his upcoming outing Friday versus the Blue Jays. The 25-year-old Melton has been unfazed by minor-league competition during his stops at Toledo and Double-A Erie this season, accruing a 2.99 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 101:20 K:BB in 75.1 innings between the two affiliates.

The Cardinals plan to adjust Pallante's pitching schedule following Wednesday's start in Colorado, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Pallante is currently sitting at 105 innings, which puts him on pace to easily exceed last year's career-high 137.2 frames. It's not clear exactly how Pallante's schedule will be adjusted, but it could involve skipping a start. The right-hander is tentatively lined up to face the Marlins at home next week.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol and pitching coach Dusty Blake planned to discuss Fedde's status in the rotation Tuesday after the righty struggled again in a loss to the Rockies, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Fedde was rocked for six runs on seven hits and one walk over three innings against the Rockies and holds a 9.64 ERA and 2.04 WHIP since June 13. The Cardinals had been hoping Fedde could right the ship and boost his trade value before the deadline, but at this point they would seem to have no choice but to replace him in the rotation with Michael McGreevy. The club should reveal its plans for Fedde in the coming days.

Sanchez (9-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits over nine innings in a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out 12 without walking a batter.

The southpaw was brilliant once again, with only a fourth-inning solo shot by Rob Refsnyder putting a blemish on his line. The dozen strikeouts tied Sanchez's career high, a mark he set April 17 against the Giants, while the complete game was his first of the season and the third of his career. The 28-year-old is emerging as a dark-horse Cy Young candidate in the National League, churning out nine straight quality starts since the beginning of June with a 1.54 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 64:10 K:BB through 64.1 innings. Sanchez will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the White Sox.

McGreevy is expected to pitch again for the Cardinals during their upcoming homestand, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The Cardinals are still finalizing their upcoming pitching plans, but McGreevy appears likely to draw a start this weekend against the Padres. The rookie right-hander went seven innings and allowed just two runs Monday in Colorado and has posted a 3.81 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB over 28.1 innings spanning five outings (four starts) with St. Louis in 2025. McGreevy could take the rotation spot currently occupied by Erick Fedde, who has struggled mightily.
