Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Gil (lat) is scheduled to begin a throwing program within the next several days, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

After being diagnosed with a high-grade right lat strain in early March, Gil avoided surgery but received a platelet-rich plasma injection and was advised not to throw for six weeks. The right-hander seems to be responding as well as the Yankees had hoped during his prolonged shutdown, and though he's on the cusp of playing catch again, he'll be in line for a slow and deliberate ramp-up program. The Yankees have already shifted Gil to the 60-day injured list and aren't anticipating him being ready to make his season debut until at least early June.

Schmidt (shoulder) will make what's expected to be his final rehab start Thursday, either at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre or Double-A Somerset, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Schmidt looked good in his first rehab outing with Somerset on Saturday, striking out seven over 3.1 scoreless frames. He threw 51 pitches in that start and will look to up his pitch count Thursday. As long as Schmidt bounces back well from Thursday's outing, he'll be lined up for his season debut with the Yankees as soon as April 15 against the Royals.

The Cubs placed Steele on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left elbow tendinitis, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Steele didn't show any indication of being hurt in his last outing, striking out eight over seven scoreless innings against the Rangers on Monday. However, he will now been shelved for at least next next couple weeks. Steele missed three weeks of action last September with the same injury, which is a bit worrisome. Colin Rea is an option to take Steele's spot in the rotation.

Springs (2-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 10-4 victory over the Padres, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.

San Diego jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the A's offense struck back for six runs against Dylan Cease in the bottom of the frame and Springs settled in once he was handed the lead. The veteran southpaw has two quality starts into his first three trips to the mound this season, and he'll take a 4.20 ERA and 16:7 K:BB through 15 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the White Sox.

Cease (1-1) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering nine runs on nine hits and three walks over four innings as the Padres were downed 10-4 by the A's. He struck out four.

The nine runs represented a career-worst performance for Cease, with six of them coming in the first inning as the A's sent 10 men to the plate. The right-hander has failed to last five innings in two of his first three starts this season, leaving him saddled with a 7.98 ERA through 14.2 frames despite an 18:6 K:BB. Cease will try to chip away at his ratios in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Cubs.

Gibson tossed a three-inning live batting practice session Sunday and is soon expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Because he remained a free agent throughout the offseason before signing a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Orioles less than a week ahead of Opening Day, Gibson has essentially been going through his own version of spring training. He's steadily ramped up the volume of his throwing program and should be on the cusp of pitching in minor-league games. Gibson will likely need to complete 2-to-3 starts at Norfolk before he's available as an option in the big-league rotation around May 1. The Orioles could have a pressing need for Gibson, as the team's starting depth has been tested in the first month of the season with injuries to Zach Eflin (lat), Grayson Rodriguez (elbow), Trevor Rogers (kneecap), Albert Suarez (shoulder), Chayce McDermott (lat), Tyler Wells (elbow) and Kyle Bradish (elbow).

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that there's a "pretty good chance" Priester will make his team debut Thursday in Colorado, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.

The Brewers acquired Priester via trade from the Red Sox on Monday and officially added him to their active roster Tuesday. It's not an ideal environment for Priester's first start with his new club, so fantasy managers would be wise to keep the right-hander on their bench for now. Priester would tentatively be set up for two starts next week at home against the Tigers and Athletics. The 24-year-old yielded two runs with a 6:0 K:BB over four innings in his first start with Triple-A Worcester this season and held a 4.71 ERA in 11 appearances between the Red Sox and Pirates in 2024.

Roupp (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Giants were downed 1-0 by the Reds, allowing one run on seven hits over six innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

it was the first career quality start for the 26-year-old right-hander, who tossed 51 of 80 pitches for strikes before begin lifted from his pitchers' duel with Nick Lodolo. Roupp sports a 3.60 ERA and 12:4 K:BB through 10 innings over his first two outings of the season, but he lines up for a tough test his next time out, on the road early next week in Philadelphia.

Lodolo (2-1) picked up the win Tuesday, scattering three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Giants. He struck out three.

The southpaw delivered his third straight quality start to begin the season, and Lodolo has gone 15.2 straight innings without allowing an earned run. He's not posting his usual strikeout numbers, however, sporting an 8:1 K:BB through 18.2 frames to go along with his 0.96 ERA and 0.70 WHIP. Lodolo will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Mariners.

Myers (oblique) yielded two hits and two walks over 3.1 scoreless innings in his first rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Myers struck out a pair of batters and got his pitch count up to 45 in his first game appearance since he suffered a left oblique strain in mid-March. The right-hander is scheduled to make two more rehab starts before rejoining the Brewers' rotation.
