Herz (4-7) yielded a run on four hits and a walk over five innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Marlins.

Herz turned in three scoreless frames before coughing up a solo homer to Otto Lopez in the fourth inning. It was Herz's second straight win after going 0-3 over his previous five outings. He hasn't thrown six innings in a start since Aug. 14 but has registered a 2.49 ERA over five appearances since then. Herz owns a 3.70 ERA with a 98:30 K:BB through 80.1 innings this season. He's projected for a road matchup with the Mets next week.

Quintana (9-9) earned the win Friday over the Phillies, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Quintana continued a stellar run Friday, blanking a potent Phillies offense on 94 pitches (62 strikes). He's won three straight starts while allowing just one earned run in his last four outings (25 innings). After a shaky start to the year, Quintana's lowered his ERA to 3.91 with a 1.27 WHIP and 122:59 K:BB across 159 innings this season. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, currently lined up for next week at home against the Nationals.

Cabrera (4-7) allowed two unearned runs on one hit and one walk over six innings Friday, striking out nine and taking a loss against Washington.

Cabrera's own error contributed to a two-run first inning, but he settling in for a dominant outing. He racked up nine punchouts for the first time since May 2 and generated 16 whiffs, including seven with his changeup. Cabrera has produced an 18:4 K:BB while allowing only one earned run over his last 18.1 innings. Since returning from the injured list in July, he's registered a 3.72 ERA, lowering his season mark to 4.55 through 89 innings. Cabrera is currently in line for a home matchup against the Dodgers next week.

Eflin (10-9) took the loss Friday against the Tigers, allowing a run on five hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out three.

Eflin was excellent Friday, blanking Detroit over his final 5.2 frames after allowing a solo home run to Kerry Carpenter in the first. However, the right-hander wound up taking a loss as the Orioles didn't record a hit until the ninth inning in a 1-0 shutout defeat. Eflin's now been stuck with the loss in back-to-back outings, though he's gone 5-2 with a 2.22 ERA through seven starts since joining Baltimore at the trade deadline. Overall, he sports a 3.55 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP and 128:18 K:BB across 154.2 innings between the Orioles and Rays this season. He's currently lined up to face the Giants at home in his next start.

The Rangers activated deGrom (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

DeGrom will make his 2024 debut Friday against the Mariners after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery in June of 2023. He only gave up one earned run and stuck out 15 batters across four rehab outings, and he'll rejoin the Rangers' rotation for the tail end of the regular season. Right-hander Owen White was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.

Stone (shoulder) is expected to begin a throwing program this weekend, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Stone landed on the 15-day injured list Sept. 6 due to right shoulder inflammation. The Dodgers' rotation is short-handed with Clayton Kershaw (toe) and Tyler Glasnow (elbow) also on the IL, but Stone at least has taken a step in the right direction with the playoffs just around the corner. Stone has an 11-5 record across 25 starts this season with a 3.53 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 140.1 innings.

Paddack (forearm) threw a bullpen session Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Paddack noted after Friday's session that his goal is to return for the start of the postseason if the Twins are able to make it. The right-hander has been on the injured list since July 20 due to a forearm strain, and he was transferred to the 60-day IL on Sept. 1. He has a 5-3 record across 17 starts this season with a 4.99 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 79:21 K:BB across 88.1 innings.

Houck was scratched from his scheduled start Friday versus the Yankees due to right shoulder fatigue, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Houck was scheduled to pitch Friday on eight days of rest in order to combat what manager Alex Cora labeled a "dead arm" phase, but the 28-year-old righty looks like he will need even more time off between starts. Richard Fitts will make a spot start in Houck's stead Friday.

Gonzales underwent flexor tendon repair surgery on his left forearm Friday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Gonzales is expected to need 12 months before returning to play, meaning he could be sidelined for the entire 2025 campaign. The Pirates are expected to decline his $15 million team option for next season.

Manager Dave Roberts said Glasnow felt discomfort in his right elbow Friday while warming up for a simulated game, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Glasnow was slated to face live hitters for two or three simulated innings, but he instead returned to the clubhouse after warming up. The 31-year-old right-hander will get additional testing on his elbow to provide some clarity on his chances of returning before the end of the regular season, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com. Glasnow has been on the 15-day injured list since Aug. 16 due to tendinitis in his right elbow.
