Gausman (12-11) took the loss Friday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five.

Despite being tagged with the loss, the veteran right-hander fared well against Atlanta in this 109-pitch outing, allowing just one extra-base hit -- a Jorge Soler double in the sixth inning. Gausman generated a solid 15 whiffs, including 10 alone on his splitter, and picked up his 14th quality start of the season. After pitching to a middling 4.50 ERA in the first half, the 33-year-old has been much sharper since the All-Star break, going 5-3 with a 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 46:23 K:BB across 59 innings. He lines up to make his next start against the Mets at home.

Cabrera was unable to make his start Friday due to a migraine, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

The team didn't initially announce why it had scratched Cabrera, and it's unclear when he might rejoin the rotation. The right-hander has a 5.33 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 84:42 K:BB in 76 innings this season.

Fried (9-8) earned the win in Friday's 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays, allowing one unearned run on five hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out eight.

After posting a mediocre 4.96 ERA across 32.2 August innings, Fried returned to ace form in this 104-pitch performance, generating an impressive 16 whiffs en route to his eight punchouts. The Atlanta southpaw picked up his 13th quality start, as he's now pitched to a 3.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 138:51 K:BB over 147.2 innings this season. Fried currently projects to make his next start against the Nationals on the road next week.

Montas (6-10) took the loss Friday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on two hits over six innings. He struck out 10.

Montas pitched well Friday, setting a new season high with 10 strikeouts while holding Colorado scoreless through five innings. However, Michael Toglia's two-out, three-run homer would prove to be enough to stick Montas will the loss in an eventual 3-2 defeat. While it wasn't the finish he would've wanted, it was a positive outing overall for the right-hander, who had allowed eight runs over 12 innings in two starts coming into the contest. The 31-year-old has a 4.69 ERA on the season with a 1.37 WHIP and 120:57 K:BB across 132.1 innings between Milwaukee and Cincinnati. Montas is currently scheduled to face the Giants on the road in his next outing.

Feltner (2-10) earned the win Friday over the Brewers, allowing a run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.

Feltner was sharp Friday, holding Milwaukee to a lone second-inning run en route to his second win this season and his first since April 12 -- he'd gone 22 starts without a victory. Feltner now sports a 4.96 ERA this year with a 1.41 WHIP and 121:45 K:BB across 138 innings. The 28-year-old Feltner is currently scheduled to face the Cubs at home next week in his next outing.

Wicks (2-3) took the loss Friday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out four.

All three runs against Wicks came in the third inning, when four straight batters reached safely to open the frame against the left-hander. The 25-year-old has allowed four runs over 10 innings in two starts since returning from a nearly three-month stint on the IL due to a strained oblique. Overall, Wicks' ERA sits at 4.03 on the season with a 1.42 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB across 38 innings. He's currently lined up for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers in his next outing.

Cobb will not make his scheduled start Saturday against the Dodgers due to a blister on his pitching hand, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Cobb's return from the 60-day injured list was delayed in mid-August due to a fractured fingernail, and he's now developing the beginnings of a blister on the index finger on the same hand. The Guardians are being cautious with the right-hander and will instead turn to Gavin Williams to start Saturday's game on four days' rest. Cleveland is viewing Cobb as day-to-day.

Gil (13-6) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

After missing two weeks with lower-back discomfort, Gil was excellent in his return. It's an encouraging effort from the 26-year-old, who had allowed seven runs over seven innings in two starts prior to his IL stint. He had also issued 16 walks in his previous 17.1 frames. Overall, Gil sports a 3.24 ERA across 130.2 innings this season with a 1.16 WHIP and 151:68 K:BB. He currently lines up for a home matchup with the Royals in his next outing.

Varland is expected to be used in a traditional relief role down the stretch, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

It had previously seemed as though the Twins were considering a quasi six-man rotation with Varland included as a bulk reliever, but he pitched his way out of that conversation in a hurry. Varland gave up eight runs on five hits and a walk over 2.1 innings against the Rays on Wednesday, bringing his ERA to 7.62 through 39 innings with the major-league team this season.

The Dodgers placed Stone on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right shoulder inflammation.

The Dodgers' rotation has taken another blow with Stone set to miss at least the next two weeks. The 25-year-old right-hander last pitched Saturday against the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four across five innings in a no-decision. Stone felt discomfort after that start, and it's unclear whether he will return this season, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. For the season, Stone is 11-5 over 25 starts with a 3.53 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 116:37 K:BB across 140.1 innings. Justin Wrobleski was recalled by the Dodgers from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move, and he will likely start Saturday against the Guardians in Stone's place.
