Skenes (6-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight over 8.1 innings.

It was an unfortunate way for Skenes to take his first loss in the majors -- the right-hander held St. Louis to one run on a Nolan Arenado solo homer through eight dominant innings. Skenes would come out for the ninth, making a bid for his first complete game, but Michael Siani led off the frame with a double before eventually scoring on an Alec Burleson hit. Despite the disappointing finish, it was another stellar outing overall for the 22-year-old rookie -- Skenes has held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last seven outings while logging seven or more strikeouts in 11 of his 12 starts this season. His ERA sits at a pristine 1.93 with a 0.87 WHIP and 97:13 K:BB across 74.2 innings. Skenes is currently lined up to face the Astros on the road in his next outing.

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Richardson was recalled earlier Tuesday to give the Reds some depth in the bullpen while Nick Martinez started. However, Tuesday's contest was postponed due to rain, so Richardson will now head back to the minors without appearing in a game. The 24-year-old owns a 4.29 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 77.2 innings in Triple-A and could still be an option to make a spot start in the majors later in the year.

Suarez was diagnosed with a right shin contusion after getting hit by a comebacker during Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

Manager Brandon Hyde said after Tuesday's game that he expects Suarez to be fine -- a good indication that the 34-year-old righty will be able to make his next start against San Diego. He only lasted two-plus innings against Miami before being removed, allowing six earned runs while striking out three batters.

Sale won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Reds after the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Atlanta and Cincinnati will play a doubleheader Wednesday to make up for Tuesday's contest, and Sale will get the starting nod in Game 2, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. The 35-year-old southpaw has posted a 1.91 ERA and 0.99 WHIP alongside a 41:11 K:BB through 28.1 innings across his last five starts.

Suarez was removed from Tuesday's game against the Marlins due to an apparent leg injury, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

Suarez took a 102-mph comebacker off his right leg during the third inning of Tuesday's contest, and he was limping as he walked off the field alongside a trainer. An update on his status should be made available once the O's are able take a closer look at him. Prior to his removal, the 34-year-old righty allowed six earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three batters in two-plus innings.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Scherzer (arm) will start Thursday's series finale against the White Sox, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Scherzer experienced arm fatigue during his last start in Saturday's loss to the Orioles, tossing just 53 pitches while allowing four earned runs over two innings. The arm issue seems to have subsided since then, and the Rangers are comfortable sending the 39-year-old veteran to the mound Thursday without giving him extra time to recover. Scherzer will certainly have a favorable matchup during his next start, as the White Sox rank last in the majors in runs scored (319) and OPS (.625).

Schmidt (lat) is throwing a 20-to-25 pitch bullpen session Tuesday that includes his full range of pitches, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The right-hander returned to the mound Saturday for the first time since he suffered a lat strain in late May, and he'll continue ramping up his workload in the coming days. Schmidt will likely need a few more sessions before being cleared to face live batters. The 28-year-old will be eligible to be reinstated from the 60-day IL next week, but he isn't likely to be back in the Yankees rotation until the second half of August since he'll also require a rehab assignment.

Falter (triceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Falter has been out since early July with left triceps tendinitis but is feeling well enough to kick off a rehab assignment. The left-hander could be ready to return from the 10-day injured list by early next week if his outing goes well Wednesday, but an additional rehab outing might be a likelier outcome.

Jones (lat) is hoping to be ready to throw a bullpen session by this weekend, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Jones threw on flat ground Tuesday for the second day in a row and on Wednesday he will throw off the front slope of the mound. If that goes well, it sounds like he could be cleared to begin throwing off a mound this weekend. Jones is working his way back from a Grade 2 right lat strain, an injury he suffered in early July.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker confirmed Tuesday that Winans will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Wednesday versus the Reds, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Winans is taking the rotation spot vacated by the injured Max Fried (forearm). Winans was rocked for seven runs (six earned) over five innings in a spot start with Atlanta earlier this season, but he boasts a 2.74 ERA and 75:22 K:BB across 82 frames in 2024 at Gwinnett. Winans might be needed for additional starts but will need to pitch well to continue seeing opportunities.
