Luis Serna SP | NYY
Yankees' Luis Serna: Rebounding from shoulder injury
Serna remains at extended spring training for the start of the minor-league season while he works through right shoulder fatigue, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
Serna made his professional debut at the rookie-ball level last season, submitting a 1.96 ERA and 56:17 K:BB in 41.1 innings. Based on that performance, the 18-year-old right-hander looked like a candidate to begin the 2023 campaign with a full-season affiliate, but the Yankees will take it slowly with him while he tends to what appears to be a minor shoulder injury. Serna could still report to Single-A Tampa once the Yankees feel comfortable with where he's at on the health front.

Connor Overton RP | NYM
Reds' Connor Overton: Fans four in no-decision
Overton did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over four innings during a 6-4 win over Philadelphia. He struck out four.
Overton gave up five runs during his season debut last week, and he wasn't particularly sharp during Sunday's matchup. However, he was able to settle for a second consecutive no-decision since the Reds put together a comeback victory over the final two innings of the game. The right-hander was slightly encouraging over a limited sample last year, posting a 2.73 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 33 innings over six appearances (four starts), but he's struggled mightily early in 2023. Assuming he maintains his starting role, Overton tentatively lines up for a rematch against the Phillies at home at the end of next week.

Tyler Wells RP | TB
Orioles' Tyler Wells: Struggles in loss
Wells (0-1) yielded four runs on six hits through six innings in Sunday's loss to the Yankees. He struck out six.
In his latest outing, Wells got off to a rocky start, allowing two hits and an RBI single in the first inning. The 28-year-old settled in, showing decent efficiency by throwing 60 of 91 pitches for strikes. However, Wells could not avoid the long ball, yielding a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the third and a two-run shot to Franchy Cordero in the fifth. Wells now holds a 3.27 ERA with 10 strikeouts through 11 innings. Despite those numbers, the recent call-up of Grayson Rodriguez may return Wells to a relief role once starter Kyle Bradish (foot) returns from injury.

Matt Sauer RP | LAD
Yankees' Matt Sauer: Opens season on shelf
Sauer was placed on Double-A Somerset's 7-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm strain, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
Sauer didn't make any appearances after Aug. 31 of last season due to an undisclosed issue, which may have been the same forearm injury that is sidelining him to begin the 2023 campaign. The 23-year-old right-hander notably turned in 17- and 11-strikeout performances in two his four starts with Somerset in the second half of last season, but he was lit up when he wasn't making bats miss, as he finished with a 7.84 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and five home runs allowed over 20.2 innings with the Double-A club.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Still hasn't resumed mound work
Fried (hamstring) hasn't yet resumed mound work and is likely about two weeks away from returning, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Fried has been playing catch recently but hasn't yet progressed to mound work, and there's been no indication that he's resumed running. It's unclear when he'll be able to throw off a mound, but he'll need some time to build back up before he's in consideration to return to game action.

Nestor Cortes SP | PHI
Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Snags second win
Cortes (2-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in the 5-3 victory over the Orioles.
Cortes impressed again, earning his second consecutive win to start the season. The left-hander was efficient, throwing 60 of 91 pitches for strikes, and didn't take any damage until after he exited the game in the sixth inning. Cortes left two runners on before being relieved, and the Orioles earned their first runs of the game on an Anthony Santander two-run double. The 28-year-old owns a 2.61 ERA and 8:2 K:BB through 10.1 innings and will look to stay in the win column in his next start, likely in the upcoming series with the Twins next week.

Kris Bubic SP | LAD
Royals' Kris Bubic: Tosses six shutout frames
Bubic allowed two hits over six shutout frames during Sunday's loss to the Giants. He struck out nine and did not factor in the decision.
Bubic was in line for the win before San Francisco's offense came alive in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old was dominant, tossing 56 of 76 pitches for strikes. He forced 19 whiffs on 42 pitches and never let a runner get past second base. Bubic is sporting a 1.64 ERA alongside a 13:4 K:BB through 11 innings. He's expected to face Atlanta at home next weekend.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Fans seven in no-decision
DeSclafani allowed one run on three hits over 6.1 innings during Sunday's win over Kansas City. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.
DeSclafani had little issue working through the Royals aside from Salvador Perez's RBI single in the fourth inning. The Giants couldn't get any offense going until the eighth inning, so Desclafani wasn't able to improve to 2-0. He has a stellar 11:0 K:BB while allowing just one run through 12.1 frames across two starts. DeSclafani is projected for a solid matchup in Detroit next weekend.

Ryan Feltner SP | COL
Rockies' Ryan Feltner: Yields three runs
Feltner allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings during Sunday's win over the Nationals. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
Feltner coughed up a pair of runs in the second inning before Washington plated a third run in the fifth. Through two outings this season, he's given up eight runs with a 10:8 K:BB through 9.2 frames. The 26-year-old righty forced nine whiffs on 90 pitches Sunday. Feltner is lined up to start in Seattle next weekend.

Johan Oviedo SP | BOS
Pirates' Johan Oviedo: Impressive in first win
Oviedo (1-0) earned the win Sunday, giving up five hits and no walks through 6.2 scoreless innings in the victory over the White Sox. He struck out five.
Oviedo stifled the White Sox offense all game and did not allow a single extra-base hit through his 6.2 innings pitched. The only run in this game came from a sacrifice fly provided by teammate Jack Suwinski in the first inning, which was all Oviedo needed to earn his first win of the year. The right-hander efficiently threw 62 of 89 pitches for strikes before exiting with two outs in the seventh inning, and he will look to keep the momentum moving in his next outing, likely to come next week in the series with the Cardinals.
