  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Mets' David Peterson: Tough-luck loser Friday

Peterson (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Mets fell 2-1 to the Marlins, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw tossed 51 of 84 pitches for strikes in his first outing of the season, but a second-inning solo shot by Jorge Soler put the Mets in an early hole they never climbed out of. Peterson could get a lengthy run in the rotation with both Justin Verlander (lat) and Jose Quintana (ribs) on the injured list, and he'll look for a little more run support in his next start, likely to come next week in Milwaukee.

  • Dodgers' Michael Grove: Expected to get multiple starts

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Friday that Grove is expected to get up to three starts if all goes to plan, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Grove was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City after Ryan Pepiot was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain. If the right-hander does struggle Monday against the Rockies, it's possible the Dodgers could turn to some pitching depth, but it does appear that Grove is going to make multiple starts while Pepiot recovers.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Bullpen session coming Sunday

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Friday that Gonsolin (ankle) will throw a bullpen session before Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

If things go well during that bullpen session, Roberts is hopeful that the right-hander will face hitters at Camelback Ranch in Arizona on Wednesday. Gonsolin is on the injured list with a sprained ankle injury, and if things go well he could return to the Los Angeles rotation by the end of April.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Michael Soroka: Getting Triple-A start Tuesday

Soroka (hamstring) is lined up to start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Soroka is also expected to get some relief work at the Triple-A level as Atlanta maps out a plan to get and keep the 25-year-old righty healthy and effective here in 2023. He was bothered this spring by a right hamstring strain, the latest in a string of injuries that have kept him from appearing in a major-league game since August 2020.

  • Tylor Megill SP | NYM

Mets' Tylor Megill: Officially recalled from Triple-A

Megill was recalled Friday from Triple-A Syracuse, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Megill will jump into the Mets' starting rotation Saturday at Miami as the fill-in for Justin Verlander, who is out indefinitely because of a low-grade teres major strain in his upper right arm. Megill, 27, holds a career 4.73 ERA in 137 major-league innings and probably shouldn't be considered as more than a streaming option outside of deeper mixed and NL-only leagues.

  • Mets' Justin Verlander: Does light throwing Friday

Verlander (shoulder) did some light throwing Friday in Miami, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Verlander was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday after being diagnosed with a low-grade teres major strain, but he has the blessing from team doctors to continue throwing on the side so that he won't require an overly lengthy build-up once he's cleared again for mound work. The veteran ace is scheduled to undergo new imaging tests on his upper right arm late next week to gauge the healing process. There should be a clearer timetable for his Mets debut once those scans are reviewed. Tylor Megill is filling his rotation spot.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Four frames at Triple-A

Whitlock (hip) allowed one run over four innings in Friday's rehab start for Triple-A Worcester.

Whitlock allowed six hits with a walk, and he struck out six. The right-hander is making his way back from hip surgery that he underwent last September, and it's encouraging to see some positive results and a full four frames. Whitlock is expected to make one more start at the Triple-A level, and if everything goes well he'll be back on the bump for Boston as soon as April 11 for a start against Tampa Bay.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Starting in Triple-A Norfolk opener

Rodriguez is starting for Triple-A Norfolk in their season opener Friday against Triple-A Durham, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Rodriguez did not ultimately claim a spot in the Orioles' Opening Day rotation after struggling to a 7.04 ERA across 15.1 innings (five starts) this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 23-year-old should dominate the competition at Triple-A as he looks to win an early-season promotion to Baltimore -- he posted a 2.20 ERA with 97 strikeouts over 69.2 innings (14 starts) for Norfolk last year.

  • Bryce Miller SP | SEA

Mariners' Bryce Miller: Shielded from PCL

Miller will open the season with Double-A Arkansas, MLB.com reports.

The Mariners don't like sending prized pitching prospects to the Pacific Coast League due to how the conditions mess with pitchers, so while Miller earned a bump this spring and with his performance in 10 starts at Double-A last year, he'll return to Arkansas for now. Seattle jumped George Kirby directly from Double-A to the majors last year, and the same could happen with Miller this summer.

  • Tanner Bibee SP | CLE

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Headed to Triple-A

Bibee is opening the year with Triple-A Columbus, MLB.com reports.

Per the report, Gavin Williams will be opening the year at Double-A Akron, so Bibee is the current favorite to be the first of the duo to reach the majors in 2023. While the 24-year-old righty is a highly touted prospect, he may have to bide his time for a couple months, as evidenced by the team's decision to add Hunter Gaddis to the big-league rotation in the wake of Triston McKenzie's shoulder injury. In addition to Gaddis, the Guardians have rotation candidates Konnor Pilkington and Joey Cantillo on the 40-man roster. Logan Allen is a non-40-man candidate due to his strong spring and experience at Triple-A last year.
