  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Takes batting practice Friday

Crawford (finger) took part in batting practice before Friday's game against the Giants, MLB.com reports.

Crawford has been progressively ramping up his activity level in recent days, as he began taking swings against a pitching machine Wednesday. The veteran shortstop noted Friday that he could be ready to begin a rehab assignment at a minor-league affiliate as soon as Sunday or Monday.

  • Leonardo Rivas SS | SEA

Mariners' Leo Rivas: Delivers in clutch Friday

Rivas went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles in an extra-inning win over the Giants on Friday.

Rivas played an integral part in locking in a victory for Dan Wilson in his managerial debut, rapping out his first RBI single in the eighth as part of a four-run, game-tying rally. Rivas then delivered in an even higher-leverage scenario two frames later, knocking in pinch runner Dylan Moore from third base in the 10th with the walk-off knock. The bottom-of-the-order shortstop has been contributing consistently despite his unfavorable lineup position, with Friday's performance being his fourth consecutive two-hit effort. Rivas doesn't offer much in the way of power, but his recent knack for consistent contact has led to him generating a .288 average and .362 on-base percentage across his first 59 big-league plate appearances.

  • Dylan Moore 2B | TEX

Mariners' Dylan Moore: Records steal as pinch runner

Moore entered Friday's extra-inning victory over the Giants as a pinch runner in the bottom of the 10th inning, recording a stolen base and the game-winning run.

Moore opened the 10th as the phantom runner and swiped third base, putting him in prime position to subsequently score the game-winning run on Leo Rivas' single. Moore has been mostly quiet at the plate of late -- he came into Friday mired in a 2-for-20 skid over his previous nine games -- but he's now up to a career-high 24 stolen bases on the season and has belted over half of his 62 hits for extra bases.

  • David Hamilton SS | BOS

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Sitting down Saturday

Hamilton isn't in Boston's lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Hamilton will sit down for Saturday's contest after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Friday's series opener. His absence will allow Mickey Gasper to pick up a start at second base while batting seventh.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Delivers two in win

Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over Cleveland.

Seager provided the winning blow with a two-run double in the second inning. The shortstop leads the Rangers with 70 RBI, fueled by a productive month. Seager has a .992 OPS with nine homers and 20 RBI over 19 games in August.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Homers in loss

Pena went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Orioles.

A rest day Thursday was good for Pena, as he drove in a run on a double in the third inning and crushed a 418-foot solo home run in the sixth. Over his past 10 games, the shortstop has tallied four multi-hit efforts with three homers and two steals. On the season, he is hitting .277 with 13 long balls, 59 RBI, 65 runs scored and 15 stolen bases across 520 plate appearances.

  • Ryan Kreidler 3B | MIN

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Joining big-league club

The Tigers recalled Kreidler from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Javier Baez (back/hip) is headed to the injured list, creating a need for infield depth. Kreidler could find himself on the short side of a platoon with Trey Sweeney at shortstop for the Tigers. Kreidler slashed .136/.208/.205 in 48 plate appearances with Detroit earlier this season.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Moved to injured list

The Tigers placed Baez on the 10-day injured list due to lumbar spine and hip inflammation Friday.

The veteran shortstop battled right hip discomfort earlier in August and he'll now require a stint on the IL with hip and lumbar spine swelling. Baez spent nearly a month on the injured list from June 11 to July 8 due to lumbar spine inflammation as well. It's unclear how long he might be sidelined this time. Ryan Kreidler was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, but Trey Sweeney should see the majority of the action at shortstop in Baez's absence.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Rehab assignment could come soon

Story (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment in September, but the Red Sox haven't determined an exact date for it yet, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

The shortstop has taken live batting practice and gone through other baseball activities over the past few weeks as he tries to make it back before the end of the season from mid-April surgery on a fractured left shoulder. Given the length of his absence, Story would figure to require a significant number of rehab at-bats, but the calendar is working against him.

  • Blue Jays' Leo Jimenez: Taking seat Friday

Jimenez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Jimenez started the past three contests after missing a couple games due to a knee issue, and he's gone 3-for-11 with a double, a homer and three RBI since recovering from the injury. Ernie Clement will shift to shortstop Friday while Addison Barger starts at the hot corner.
