Trevor Story SS | BOS
Red Sox's Trevor Story: Still not starting
Story (heel) isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Story left Sunday's game due to left heel pain, and manager Alex Cora was optimistic that the infielder would be able to return to action Wednesday. However, the 29-year-old will remain out of the lineup for a second consecutive game while Enrique Hernandez starts at the keystone and bats eighth.

Nick Allen SS | HOU
Athletics' Nick Allen: Extends modest hitting streak
Allen went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
The rookie's fourth-inning two-bagger brought home Jonah Bride for Allen's first RBI since Aug. 30. The shortstop has shown some modest signs of life at the plate over the last three games, recording a hit in each while scoring twice overall. However, Allen remains mostly overmatched by big-league arms, as he's still carrying just a .205 average and .541 OPS across 81 games.

Andrew Velazquez SS | TEX
Angels' Andrew Velazquez: Shut down with torn meniscus
Velazquez was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right meniscus tear.
Velazquez sustained the injury in Tuesday's game against the Guardians and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after receiving the diagnosis. The 28-year-old played in a career-high 125 games in 2022 and slashed .196/.236/.304 with nine homers, 37 runs, 28 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Velazquez will soon undergo surgery and is facing a recovery timetable of approximately 6-to-8 weeks, so he should be back to full strength for spring training.

Angels' Andrew Velazquez: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Velazquez (knee) isn't starting Wednesday against the Guardians, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
Velazquez was removed from Tuesday's matchup against Cleveland due to a knee injury, and he'll be out of the lineup for the series finale. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but David Fletcher will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Red Sox's Trevor Story: Could play Wednesday
Boston manger Alex Cora said Story's return from a heel injury is not expected "to take longer than a few days," the Red Sox' official site reports.
Cora is hoping his second baseman can play the second game of the two-game set with the Yankees on Wednesday. If not, Story could return Friday against the Royals after Thursday's off-day.

Josh H. Smith SS | TEX
Rangers' Josh Smith: Fills in at shortstop
Smith started at shortstop in place of the resting Corey Seager and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Athletics.
Smith has mostly played third base or left field this season, and Tuesday's start at shortstop was his first of the season. With Josh Jung up with the team and playing every day at third base, opportunities for Smith are in short supply. Bubba Thompson has been the primary left fielder, so it should be random starts for Smith, who is batting .193 since the All-Star break.

Xander Bogaerts SS | SD
Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Solo shot in loss
Bogaerts went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's extra-inning loss against the Yankees.
Bogaerts lifted a fly ball 332 feet off Pesky's Pole at Fenway Park with nobody on base to put the Red Sox on top, 4-3. The solo shot was Bogaerts' 14th on the season and second in the month of September. He has been hot at the dish, batting .436 (17-for-39) this month.

Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU
Astros' Aledmys Diaz: Two hits in return
Diaz (groin) went 2-for-4 in a 6-3 win Tuesday in Detroit.
Diaz was activated from the injured list before Tuesday's game after missing 23 games. Batting seventh and serving as the designated hitter, he singled in the fourth and seventh innings. It's unlikely that he'll see much time at DH down the stretch, as both Yordan Alvarez and Trey Mancini are better suited for that role and Diaz can play numerous positions.

Andrew Velazquez SS | TEX
Angels' Andrew Velazquez: Nursing knee issue
Velazquez exited Tuesday's game against the Guardians with a knee injury, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
Velazquez suffered the injury while he fielded a groundball during the fourth inning and was replaced by a pinch hitter in the following frame. The 28-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale in Cleveland.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Twins' Carlos Correa: Reaches 20-homer mark
Correa went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three total RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Royals.
Correa found his success against Royals lefty Kris Bubic, producing an RBI double in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fifth. The homer was Correa's 20th of the year, making this the sixth time in eight seasons the shortstop has reached that level. He's done it with a power surge lately, going yard five times through 11 games in September. The 27-year-old's added 57 RBI, 62 runs scored, 19 doubles and a triple while slashing .280/.357/.463 through 116 contests.
