Astros' Jeremy Pena: Pops grand slam in loss

Pena went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and walk in Saturday's 6-4 loss to Seattle.

The Houston shortstop poked a 340-foot grand slam into the Crawford Boxes off reliever Carlos Vargas in the seventh to make the score 6-4. Through 543 total plate appearances, the one-time All-Star is now slashing .304/.363/.477 with 17 long balls, 20 stolen bases, 68 runs scored and 62 RBI.

Volpe singled, stole second and scored to extend the Yankees' lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning. The Royals star opened the game's scoring with a 422-foot solo shot off Toronto starter Shane Bieber in the fourth. In 53 games since the All-Star break, Witt has been a dependable source of both power and speed, batting .291 (61-for-209) with nine homers and 12 steals. Overall, the 25-year-old shortstop his now slashing .293/.352/.503 with 96 runs scored and 82 RBI across 654 plate appearances.

  • Brooks Lee SS | MIN

Twins' Brooks Lee: Not starting Game 1

Lee isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians.

Lee will grab a seat on the bench to begin Saturday's twin bill after going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts Friday. Ryan Fitzgerald will start at shortstop and bat seventh for the Twins.

  • Denzer Guzman SS | LAA

Angels' Denzer Guzman: Swats second long ball

Guzman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.

Guzman hit the second of two Angels homers in the second inning, going 415 feet deep to left field. It was his second home run (and fourth overall hit) through six games as a pro. Though he's shown good pop during his short time in the majors, Guzman has also struck out in a whopping 12 of his 20 plate appearances.

  • Rays' Carson Williams: Goes deep in second straight

Williams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Red Sox.

Williams took Garrett Crochet deep for a solo home run in the fourth inning, his second long ball in as many games. He has struggled for long portions of his first stint in the majors, fueled primarily by a 36.7 percent strikeout rate across 79 plate appearances. However, Williams has a modest three-game hitting streak and has struck out only twice across his last 11 plate appearances.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Mixed results in loss

Story went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics.

Story continued to show a productive September bat, logging a fourth consecutive multi-hit effort and upping his OPS to 1.023 for the month. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, the normally sure-handed defender committed two errors that contributed to two unearned runs. The home run gave him 25 for the season to go along with 93 RBI and 31 steals.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Six-game hitting streak

Pena went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored Wednesday against the Rangers.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Takes easy swings

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said that Seager (abdomen) took light swings Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Seager, who underwent an appendectomy in late August, rejoined his teammates for their current series in Houston and is doing some limited activity. Bochy added the shortstop has done some light rotation work and emphasized the word "light." The Rangers hope Seager can get back on the field and help the team's chase for the playoffs. Texas, which has lost four straight and sits 4.5 games back of a wild-card spot with just nine to play, may be out of contention by the time Seager is ready to contribute.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Exiting lineup Wednesday

Volpe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Volpe was held out of the lineup for six straight games after receiving a cortisone injection to treat a partial labrum tear in his left shoulder last week, but the 24-year-old made his return to the lineup Tuesday. He delivered an encouraging effort in his first start in a week, having a clean day in the field while going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs in the Yankees' 10-9 win. Despite Volpe's strong game, manager Aaron Boone is likely to take a day-by-day approach at the shortstop position, so Volpe could become part of a timeshare with Jose Caballero while the season winds down. Caballero will get the nod at shortstop in Wednesday's series finale.
