Angel Genao 2B | CLE
Guardians' Angel Genao: Headed to majors
The Guardians are expected to recall Genao from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Viewed as one of the top prospects in the Guardians' farm system, Genao has spent time at Double-A and Triple-A this season, slashing .299/.400/.458 with 11 homers, 50 RBI, 62 runs and 11 steals to go with a 59:66 BB:K across 95 total games. He may get reps at the hot corner if Jose Ramirez's hand injury ends up sending him to the injured list. Otherwise, Genao could claim the starting shortstop job from Brayan Rocchio, who has posted just a .456 OPS since the All-Star break.

George Lombard Jr. SS | NYY
Yankees' George Lombard: Smacks homer in MLB debut
Lombard went 1-for-2 with a solo home run during the Yankees' 2-0 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Lombard, the Yankees' top prospect, was called up to make his major-league debut Tuesday, starting at shortstop and batting eighth. He made an immediate impact defensively with a nice play in the second frame that led to a 6-4-3 double play, and he topped that in the fifth offensively with his first major-league home run. With Anthony Volpe now with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Lombard is lined up to serve as the Yankees' primary shortstop for the rest of the regular season, with Jose Caballero also in the mix for reps.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Astros' Carlos Correa: Cleared to swing bat
Correa (ankle) was cleared to swing a bat Tuesday and is hopeful to return from the 60-day injured list before the end of the season, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Correa underwent what was believed to be season-ending ankle surgery May 11, as the procedure was expected to carry an estimated recovery timeline of 6-to-8 months. However, as McTaggart reports, Correa is attempting to defy the odds and return to action late in the season as the Astros jockey for a playoff spot. Correa slashed .279/.369/.418 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 22 runs scored and one stolen base across 141 plate appearances before hitting the shelf.

Yankees' George Lombard: Batting eighth in MLB debut
The Yankees selected Lombard's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
Lombard is starting at shortstop and batting eighth in his major-league debut Tuesday versus the Cardinals. The 20-year-old slashed .268/.405/.440 with six home runs and 10 stolen bases across 262 plate appearances for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since he was promoted from Double-A Somerset. Lombard is in line to serve as the Yankees' primary shortstop down the stretch.

Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Returning to lineup Tuesday
Wilson (knee) will start at shortstop and bat second in Tuesday's game versus the Reds.
Wilson sat out Sunday's contest against the Tigers as he deals with patellar tendinitis in his knee, but he's ready to go after a team off day Monday. His knee situation is considered manageable, but Wilson could require an occasional off day in the final two months.

Bobby Witt SS | KC
Royals' Bobby Witt: Reinstated from injured list
The Royals activated Witt (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Witt is ready to roll following a two-week absence with low-back tightness. He did not go out on a rehab assignment, as Witt and the Royals were satisfied with how things went in a full workout over the weekend. The star shortstop has slashed .279/.350/.450 with 13 long balls and 30 steals across 414 plate appearances for Kansas City this season.

Anthony Volpe SS | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Will get second-base reps in minors
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday on the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast by Jomboy Media that Volpe will play second base in addition to shortstop at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Volpe was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Monday's loss to the Cardinals. The 25-year-old has not seen any action at a position other than shortstop since he played three games at third base and two at second base in A-ball in 2021, but Volpe increasing his versatility could be his best chance to contribute in the majors later this season.

Ezequiel Duran SS | TEX
Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Perfect at plate Monday
Duran went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and a double Monday in a loss to the Giants.
Duran was by far the most productive offensive player for Texas, logging four of the team's seven hits and accounting for the Rangers' only run with a solo blast to left field in the ninth inning. The utility man posted his second four-hit performance of the season and snapped a 2-for-19 cold spell at the plate. Duran continues to provide immense value both with his bat and with his defensive versatility -- he's slashing .274/.326/.455 with 13 homers, 51 runs, 59 RBI and nine stolen bases through 394 plate appearances this season while making double-digit appearances at three different positions in the infield (shortstop, third base and second base) as well as at two different positions in the outfield (left field and right field).

Anthony Volpe SS | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Sent to Triple-A
The Yankees optioned Volpe to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Monday's 13-7 loss to the Cardinals.
Volpe didn't play Monday but had gone 0-for-11 with three strikeouts in his last three games, bringing his slash line down to an unremarkable .240/.325/.322 over 194 plate appearances in the big leagues. Rather than keeping Volpe on hand as part of a timeshare at shortstop with Jose Caballero, the Yankees plan to promote top prospect George Lombard from Triple-A to take over as their everyday option at the position, according to Jack Curry of YES Network. Caballero, meanwhile, is expected to shift into a utility role, and Volpe will get the chance to play on a regular basis at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

George Lombard Jr. SS | NYY
Yankees' George Lombard: Headed to big leagues
The Yankees will call up Lombard from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
The top prospect in the Yankees' farm system, Lombard will be headed to the majors while the big club makes some significant changes to the roster following Monday's 13-7 loss. In order to clear a spot for Lombard, the Yankees will option four players to the minors, including shortstop Anthony Volpe and outfielder Jasson Dominguez. The 20-year-old Lombard earned the call to the big leagues after slashing .268/.405/.440 with six home runs and 10 stolen bases across 262 plate appearances for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since being elevated from Double-A Somerset on April 29. Lombard is likely to settle in as New York's everyday shortstop while Jose Caballero shifts into more of a utility role.
