  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Stays hot with 15th homer

Turner went 1-for-5 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Giants.

Turner went back-to-back with Kyle Schwarber against Alex Cobb in the sixth inning, cutting the Phillies' deficit to 4-2. Turner has now hit safely in five straight games and has three long balls in that span. Over his last 18 contests, the 30-year-old Turner has gone 25-for-73 (.342) with a 1.015 OPS, boosting his slash line to .250/.303/.405 on the season with 15 homers, 72 runs scored, 49 RBI and 22 stolen bases across 558 plate appearances.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Stays hot with homer, three RBI

Adames went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Twins.

Adames took Emilio Pagan deep in his third at-bat of the game to bring the Brewers back within a run of Minnesota. The shortstop then came through as the hero in the bottom of the tenth, driving home the game-tying run before coming around to score the winning run himself on a Brice Turang infield single. Adames has now homered in three of his last four games and has multiple hits in three of his last five to go along with nine RBI and four runs scored. He's also driven in at least one run five straight contests.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Bats leadoff in nightcap

Marte started at third base, batted leadoff, and went 0-for-4 with an RBI in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Angels. He did not play in the matinee.

Marte's eighth-inning groundout produced his first big-league RBI since being called up last Saturday. The righty-hitting infielder was moved up from the bottom of the order to the leadoff spot, as injuries forced manager David Bell to make a change against left-handed starters. Most recently, Kevin Newman (oblique) or Stuart Fairchild (concussion) batted atop the order against southpaws. The manager opted for Marte, in just his third start in the majors, against Angels lefty Reid Detmers in Game 2 on Wednesday.

  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Goes deep in nightcap

McLain went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Angels.

McLain had himself a day, going a combined 3-for-8 with a home run, three RBI, two stolen bases and five total runs across both games. Batting second or third in the order since being called up in May, McLain is second on the club with 63 runs scored over 85 games.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Belts 14th homer

Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins.

The shortstop took Sandy Alcantara deep in the sixth inning to break open what had been a 1-0 pitchers' duel. Bogaerts is still struggling to get into a groove at the plate, and through 21 games in August he's batting .256 (21-for-82) with three of his 14 homers on the season and seven of his 44 RBI.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Nabs fifth steal

Wendle went 1-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Padres.

The infielder had the Marlins' only extra-base hit of the day in the fifth inning and promptly stole third base, but he was left stranded. Wendle hasn't had a multi-hit performance since July 7, batting a feeble .159 (16-for-88) in 34 games since with zero homers, seven RBI and nine runs, and Wednesday's steal was only his fifth of the season and his first since late June. Despite his prolonged slump, Wendle remains on the strong side of a platoon at shortstop, and Jon Berti has done little to wrest away more playing time from him.

  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Crosses plate four times in win

McLain went 1-for-3 with two walks, four runs scored and a stolen base in a 9-4 win over the Angels during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Batting second in front of Elly De La Cruz has its perks, as McLain crossed the plate in the fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth innings to help the Reds pull away. McLain is batting .278 (20-for-72) in August with three of his 14 homers and four of his 12 steals.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Drives in six in matinee

De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored and six RBI in a 9-4 win over the Angels during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

The rookie struck out in his other three at-bats, but he continues to do significant damage when he makes contact. De La Cruz took Tyler Anderson deep in the fifth inning for a three-run shot while hitting right-handed, then ripped a bases-loaded triple into the right-field corner in the seventh after switching around to the left side of the plate to face Dominic Leone. It's De La Cruz's fifth multi-hit performance in the last 11 games, a stretch in which he's produced a double, three triples, two homers, three steals, six runs and 11 RBI despite fanning 18 times in 45 at-bats.

  • Paul DeJong SS | NYY

Giants' Paul DeJong: Homer, four RBI in Giants debut

DeJong went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Phillies.

DeJong made an immediate impact in his Giants debut, launching a two-run homer off Michael Lorenzen in the fourth inning before putting San Francisco ahead 7-5 in the 10th inning with a two-run single. It was quite a performance from DeJong, who was DFA'd by the Blue Jays after going just 3-for-50 (.060) in his last 15 games. Overall, the 30-year-old DeJong's slashing .216/.273/.378 with 14 homers, 40 runs scored and 37 RBI across 355 plate appearances between San Francisco, Toronto and St. Louis this season. While it's been hard to rely on consistent fantasy production from DeJong, he could see a regular role with the Giants while Brandon Crawford (forearm) is sidelined.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Minimum IL stay possible

Crawford (forearm) believes he'll be ready to return from the 10-day injured list right around when he's first eligible Aug. 29, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler was a bit more cautious, saying Wednesday only that he thought there was enough time left in the season for Crawford to contribute. Crawford landed on the IL over the weekend with a strained left (non-throwing) forearm. The team has signed Paul DeJong as a stopgap at shortstop.
