  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Placed on 60-day IL

Pittsburgh placed Marcano on the 60-day injured list Tuesday with a right knee ligament injury, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Marcano had to be carried off the field Monday after injuring his knee on a play at third base. He won't be eligible to return from the 60-day IL until late September and could very well be done for the season. The young infielder had slashed .233/.276/.356 with three homers and five steals through 75 major-league games this year for the Pirates.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Breather Tuesday

Perdomo is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Cardinals.

Perdomo will take a seat after he went 2-for-6 with a triple, an RBI, two walks and two runs scored while starting the last two contests. Nick Ahmed will replace him at shortstop and bat seventh against St. Louis.

  • Alika Williams SS | PIT

Pirates' Alika Williams: Getting call to majors

The Pirates will call up Williams from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Acquired from the Rays in June for Robert Stephenson, Williams has been raking to the tune of a .305/.384/.531 batting line with seven homers and three steals through 36 games with the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate. The 24-year-old can play both shortstop and second base, and he could get opportunities at both spots in the Pirates' struggling infield. He was the 37th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft but mostly underwhelmed during his time in the Tampa Bay system. He hit .237/.314/.417 in 42 games earlier this season with Triple-A Durham prior to being traded.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Bright spot in tough July

Tovar went 3-for-5 with a stolen base Monday against the Nationals.

Tovar managed only his second multi-knock game across 16 games in July, during which he's hit .226 with a 31.3 percent strikeout rate. As could be expected for a 21-year-old rookie, he has been inconsistent this season, as he endured a poor April before turning things around in the early summer. Tovar remains locked into everyday playing time, though he has been hitting in the bottom third of the lineup when the rest of the starting nine is healthy.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Nursing ligament injury

Marcano left Monday's game against the Padres with a ligament injury in his right knee, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. He went 1-for-3 with a strikeout prior to his departure.

Marcano wasn't able to put any weight on his right leg after a play at third base Monday. The Pirates are sending him for further evaluation Tuesday, but Marcano appears likely to require a trip to the injured list.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Leaves with knee injury

Marcano was removed from Monday's game against the Padres after suffering a right knee injury, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Marcano stepped awkwardly on third base during a play in the bottom of the fifth inning and needed assistance getting off the field. He should be considered day-to-day since the severity of the injury is currently unclear.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Sitting out Monday

Rojas is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Blue Jays, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Rojas will get a breather after he went 2-for-10 with three walks, four runs scored and a stolen base over the team's series in Texas. Chris Taylor will start at shortstop and bat seventh in the series opener with the Blue Jays.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

    Marlins' Jon Berti: Heating up

Berti went 1-for-3 with a double in Sunday's extra-inning win over the Rockies.

Getting the start at shortstop and batting sixth, Berti extended his hit streak to six games, a stretch in which he's gone 10-for-17 (.588) with two stolen bases and four runs scored. The 33-year-old has slipped back into a super-utility role with the Marlins mostly healthy -- over the last five games, he's started twice at shortstop and once each at third base and in left field -- and he seems to be more comfortable with that assignment. On the season, Berti's slashing .292/.335/.372 in 271 plate appearances with two homers, 11 steals, 18 RBI and 35 runs.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Pops leadoff homer

De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-3 win over Arizona.

De La Cruz, who returned to the lineup after a one-day respite, led off the bottom of the first inning with his fifth homer in 40 games. The blast comes at a time when the electrifying rookie is mired in his first major slump. De La Cruz entered the game just 2-for-31 with 15 strikeouts since the All-Star break.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Tallies two hits again Sunday

Swanson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Cardinals.

Swanson has tallied two hits in consecutive contests and four times over his last five games. The burst has pushed his season batting average up to .264, which is still a bit below the .277 figure the shortstop posted last year with Atlanta. However, Swanson could reach that mark if he keeps up his recent level of performance.
