  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Not starting matinee

Wendle isn't starting the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Wendle is getting a breather after he hit .214 with a triple, two RBI, a walk and five strikeouts over the last seven games. Jon Berti is starting at second base and leading off.

  • Ehire Adrianza 3B | LAA

Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Lands on injured list

Adrianza was placed on the injured list for an undisclosed reason Friday.

The likely explanation is placement on the COVID-19 IL. Assuming that's the case, Adrianza will be eligible to return as soon as he clears the league's health and safety protocols, but his absence will leave Atlanta very short-handed at second base behind Vaughn Grissom. Guillermo Heredia was called up to take Adrianza's place on the active roster.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Returns from injured list

Berti (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined for nearly a month by the groin strain, but he's back with the big-league club after going 1-for-14 during a four-game rehab stint with Triple-A Jacksonville. Berti has a .271/.365/.375 slash line with two home runs and 19 RBI in 58 games this season, and even after the absence he still leads the league with 28 stolen bases while being caught only three times. Joey Wendle has settled in as Miami's primary second baseman, but Berti should still see regular playing time between the infield and outfield thanks to his versatility.

  • Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: No plans to shift him off shortstop

Maurico will continue to be developed as a shortstop by the Mets despite seemingly being blocked at the big-league level by Francisco Lindor, Alex Schiffer of The Athletic reports.

"We've talked about it as an organization, I don't think we're at that point right now where we're ready to make that move yet," Double-A Binghamton manager Reid Brignac said this week. "When you got a guy [in Lindor] that's on a long-term contract and one of the best shortstops in Major League Baseball, it's going to be hard to move him off of that spot right? So at some point when [Mauricio] gets closer to being a big-league player there will be talks about moving him to other positions. The more positions you play, the more opportunity you get." Third base would be an obvious shift, but the Mets have a top prospect at the hot corner already in Brett Baty, who just got a promotion to Triple-A and is likely to reach the majors before Mauricio does. Regardless of where the 21-year-old eventually plays, he'll need to show a better hit tool and/or more plate discipline to earn a regular role in the big-league lineup, as he's slashing .246/.282/.474 with 21 homers and 14 steals in 92 games for Binghamton this season.

  • Paul DeJong SS | NYY

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Posts four hits in win

DeJong went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, one RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the Rockies.

DeJong wasn't able to hit one out for a third straight game, but he was still a productive part of the offense. He's batting .333 since his callup July 30, with four homers, 13 RBI, eight runs scored and five doubles across 10 games in that span. He's solidified a near-everyday role at shortstop again, and the productivity should be enough to get him back on the fantasy radar.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Steps out of lineup

Edman is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Edman was scratched from Saturday's lineup for unspecified reasons but started the past three games and went 4-for-13 with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Nolan Gorman will move to second base while Nolan Arenado rests his legs as the designated hitter.

  • Vaughn Grissom 2B | LAA

    Braves' Vaughn Grissom: Stellar debut

Grissom went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a steal and an additional run scored in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.

Grissom was elevated from Double-A Mississippi before the contest and quickly made his presence felt as the first player in franchise history to homer and steal a base in his debut. The rookie took a first-pitch fastball from Red Sox reliever Darwinzon Hernandez deep over the Green Monster in the seventh inning, giving Atlanta a commanding 5-1 lead. He also singled in the ninth and stole second before ultimately scoring on Dansby Swanson's RBI single. With Orlando Arcia (hamstring) expected to be sidelined for 3-to-4 weeks and Ozzie Albies (foot) still out, Grissom should garner plenty of opportunities during the stretch run.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Productive in rout of Reds

Lindor went 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Reds.

The shortstop extended his run-scoring streak to 13 games with another big performance. Over that stretch, Lindor is batting .417 (20-for-48) with four homers, 14 RBI and 16 runs. Perhaps the only disappointing thing about his recent surge is that he's only stolen one base. The 28-year-old now sports an .813 OPS on the season -- his highest mark since 2019, if he can maintain it.

  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Cruz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game at Arizona, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Cruz started the past nine games and will receive a day off after posting a .235/.278/.500 slash line with three home runs, seven RBI, five runs and a 38.9 percent strikeout rate during that span. Kevin Neman will move to shortstop while Rodolfo Castro starts at the keystone.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: September return likely

Arcia (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, said he could return in 3-to-4 weeks, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Arcia suffered the hamstring strain during Tuesday's win over the Red Sox, and it appears he'll be sidelined until at least the start of September. Atlanta is already without Ozzie Albies (foot), so prospect Vaughn Grissom was called up and should receive significantly playing time at second base.
