Giants' Brett Wisely: Sitting vs. lefty Friday

Wisely is not in the Giants' starting lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Wisely will begin Friday's contest in the dugout with the Rockies sending southpaw Kyle Freeland to the mound. With Thairo Estrada (wrist) on the 10-day injured list, Casey Schmitt will start at second base and bat eighth.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Called up, starting

The Giants recalled Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento. Schmitt will bat eighth and start at second base Friday against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

With Thairo Estrada (wrist) being placed on the 10-day IL on Friday, Schmitt will join the Giants' active roster and provide depth in the middle infield. In 12 big-league games this season, Schmitt is slashing .220/.238/.390 with a pair of homers.

  • Xavier Edwards SS | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Swipes fifth bag

Edwards went 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Thurday's extra-inning loss to the Orioles.

Batting second against ace right-hander Corbin Burnes, Edwards delivered his ninth multi-hit performance in the last 15 games while stealing his fifth bag of the year. The 24-year-old shortstop is slashing a blistering .431/.500/.471 over that stretch with seven RBI, nine runs and a 9:7 BB:K, and the move to the top of the order is likely to stick as long as he keeps raking. If the trade rumors circling Jazz Chisholm pan out, Edwards seems likely to become the Marlins' leadoff hitter in August.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Another long ball in win

Lindor went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's extra-inning win over Atlanta.

Lindor jumped on the first pitch he saw from Chris Sale in his second at-bat and crushed it into the stands in center field for a two-run shot, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead. It marked the shortstop's fifth homer in his last four games and his ninth homer in July. He's also hit safely in 10 straight contests, batting .385 (14-for-39) over that stretch with seven extra-base hits, 14 RBI and seven runs scored.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | SD

Dodgers' Nick Ahmed: Clubs first homer with LA

Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's 6-4 win over the Giants.

Ahmed inked a major-league deal with the Dodgers on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 during his debut with Los Angeles. In his second game Thursday, Ahmed lifted a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning against his former team. Before being released by the Giants on July 11, Ahmed logged a .232 average with one homer, 15 RBI and 13 runs in 172 plate appearances.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | SD

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Plates three runs Thursday

Kim went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Thursday's 3-0 win over Washington.

Kim cleared the bases with a first-inning double to give San Diego a 3-0 lead. That ended up being the final score, as the Padres' offense went dormant the rest of the way and Dylan Cease shut down the Nationals with his first career no-hitter. For Kim, the performance snapped a string of 11 straight contests without a run batted in. In fact, his three RBI were as many as he had collected over his previous 21 games combined.

  • Brett Wisely 2B | SF

Giants' Brett Wisely: Picks up second steal

Wisely went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Dodgers.

Wisely has offered little production in July with no home runs, three RBI, two runs scored and one steal on three attempts over 17 games. The infielder also has a 2:17 BB:K this month. The emergence of Tyler Fitzgerald at shortstop has left Wisely to compete with Thairo Estrada for playing time at second base, a situation where Wisely has the platoon advantage.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Extends hitting streak

Tovar went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Tovar continued his hot stretch at the plate. He homered in the first inning and has gone deep five times in his last six starts. Tovar also has an 11-game hitting streak -- six of which have come on the road -- during which he's gone 22-for-51 with 12 RBI and 10 runs scored.

  • Xavier Edwards SS | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Tallies three hits Wednesday

Edwards went 3-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI in a 6-3 win against Baltimore on Wednesday.

Edwards had seven multi-hit performances through 21 games coming into Wednesday, but his three-hit effort was his first of the campaign. The shortstop is now battling a sizzling .361 over 72 at-bats, though he's yet to go deep. Edwards has a 12:14 BB:K across 85 plate appearances and has four thefts, so he's an intriguing fantasy target for managers needing a boost in batting average, OBP and/or stolen bases.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Powers offense with two homers

Lindor went 3-for-6 with two home runs and five RBI in Wednesday's 12-3 win over the Yankees.

For the second time in three games, Lindor crushed multiple homers. His outburst Wednesday was the driving force in the Mets' blowout win. The shortstop has done it all in July, batting .308 (24-for-78) with eight homers, 20 RBI, 15 runs scored and five stolen bases over 20 contests this month. The surge has him up to a .259/.338/.479 slash line with 21 homers, 60 RBI, 68 runs scored and 20 steals in 101 games this year. Lindor is the second member of the 20-20 club this year, joining Shohei Ohtani.
