Braves' Dansby Swanson: Slugs first homer

Swanson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-1 win against the Cubs.

Swanson batted out of the nine spot in the order and was one of four Atlanta players with multiple hits. His third-inning solo shot traveled an estimated 432 feet and was his first long ball of the campaign. Swanson has reached based safely in six straight games and is batting .389 with five RBI and two steals over that stretch.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Dealing with jaw contusion

Rojas was diagnosed with a jaw contusion following Thursday's win over the Nationals, Byron Kerr of MLB.com reports.

Rojas was hit in the head by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning Thursday, but he was initially able to remain in the game. He went 0-for-2 prior to being replaced defensively in the bottom half of the inning. The 33-year-old is also being tested for a concussion, but the results aren't yet known. Rojas should tentatively be considered day-to-day prior to Friday's series opener against Seattle.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Leading off Thursday

Berti will start at second base and lead off for the Marlins in Thursday's game in Washington, David Wilson of the Miami Herald reports.

Jazz Chisholm is getting a breather for the series finale, so Berti will be summoned from the bench to take his spot in the field and atop the order. Berti most recently made a pair of starts at third base to close out the Marlins' weekend series in Atlanta, going a combined 2-for-6 with a triple, four walks and three runs between those games.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Out against lefty

Wendle will sit Thursday against the Nationals, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports.

Wendle will sit against lefty Patrick Corbin, as he did against all three left-handers the Marlins faced earlier in the year. Brian Anderson starts at third base.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Drives in two Wednesday

Swanson went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-3 extra-inning loss to the Cubs.

His two-run single in the eighth inning tied the game at 3-3, but Atlanta couldn't find any more offense on the night. Swanson's had a rough start to the season, but he appears to be righting the ship -- over the last seven games, he's slashing .273/.360/.364.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Three hits in Wednesday's win

Edman went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Mets.

The second baseman went 0-for-9 over the prior three games, but he snapped the mini-slump in impressive fashion. Edman has three of his four steals on the season in the last two contests, and he sports a .310/.412/..534 slash line on the season with three homers, nine runs and nine RBI.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Pops first homer

Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Ahmed took Julio Urias yard in the fifth inning to record his first homer of the season. He was sidelined by a shoulder injury for the first two weeks of the campaign, and he's been in the lineup in four of six games since. Ahmed has been a light hitter throughout his career, though he does have two extra-base hits in only 12 plate appearances to begin his 2022 season.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Playing field recently

Barrero (hand) has been playing in the field at the Reds' extended spring training facility recently, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The Reds indicated last week that Barrero had begun a hitting progression, and his return to fielding indicates another step in his recovery. The 24-year-old is expected to ramp up his hitting next week and should be in the mix for a rehab assignment sometime after that. Although he's made progress in his recovery recently, he doesn't yet have a timetable to rejoin the major-league club.

  • Diego Castillo 3B | MIN

Pirates' Diego Castillo: Leading off versus lefty

Castillo will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Castillo had made each of his last three starts in right field, but he looks as though he could get an extended trial as the Pirates' everyday shortstop after Kevin Newman was diagnosed Wednesday with a groin injury that's expected to sideline him for 3-to-5 weeks. Though he's receiving the leadoff assignment Wednesday against Brewers lefty Aaron Ashby, the righty-hitting Castillo is expected to slot closer to the middle or bottom of the lineup versus right-handed pitching.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Returns to lineup

Rojas (illness) is starting Wednesday against the Nationals, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.

Rojas didn't appear in the last three games while dealing with flu-like symptoms, but he'll be back in action Wednesday. He's hitting .186 with a triple, a double, three runs and two RBI this year.
