  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Blasts three-run shot

Baez went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's win over Atlanta.

Baez might have struck out three times, but he made his presence felt with his lone hit -- a three-run shot in the third off Huascar Ynoa that scored both Kris Bryant and Joc Pederson. The star shortstop ended a three-game hitless streak with his fourth homer of the campaign, but he has struck out at least once in 10 straight games and continues to show an aggressive approach -- one that has resulted in a whopping 20 strikeouts over his last 37 plate appearances.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Belts big long ball

Seager went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's extra-innings win over the Padres.

With the teams knotted at 6-6 after 11 innings, Seager came up to the plate in the top of the 12th and unloaded a 423-foot homer to propel the Dodgers to an exciting win. The blast was his second of the campaign, each of which have come over his past four contests. Seager is slashing a robust .348/.455/.543 on the season.

  • Padres' Tucupita Marcano: Optioned to alternate camp

Marcano was optioned to the Padres' alternate training site Friday.

Marcano made San Diego's Opening Day roster as a utility man and went 2-for-12 with a double and one RBI in 10 games. However, he'll now be removed from the major-league roster after Fernando Tatis was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Day off Friday

Ahmed will hit the bench Friday against the Nationals.

Ahmed started five straight games after returning from a knee injury Saturday. He went hitless in four of them and owns a .295 OPS through his first 21 plate appearances of the year, so it's no surprise to see him get a bit of a break. Josh Rojas will start at shortstop in his absence.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Hits walkoff single

Swanson went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a double in Thursday's 7-6 win over Miami.

The shortstop finally broke through offensively, recording just his second multi-hit game and raising his early season average from .156 to .204. The lineup in front of Swanson has done him no favors with Ozzie Albies, Freddie Freeman and Marcell Ozuna all struggling considerably to begin 2021. However, those established hitters will presumably break out of their slumps and give Swanson more advantageous opportunities at the plate. The 27-year-old is coming off a career-best 2020 campaign and is once again beginning to flash that offensive prowess from a year ago.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Back in big leagues

Camargo was recalled by Atlanta on Friday.

Camargo takes the roster spot that had belonged to reliever Tucker Davidson, who was optioned to the alternate site Thursday. Camargo spent a brief period on the roster earlier in the season, striking out twice and walking once in his three trips to the plate. He could spend much of the season bouncing on and off the fringe of Atlanta's roster unless injuries open up a permanent role.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

    Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Sluggish start

Ahmed went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 11-6 win over the Nationals.

Ahmed knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, his second RBI of the season, and scored his first runs of the season. The stolen base was his first, but speed has not been a big element to his game. His eight thefts over 158 games in 2019 stand as his career benchmark. After starting the year on the injured list due to a knee injury, the shortstop hasn't done much since rejoining the Diamondbacks. Ahmed is 2-for-19 out of the gate.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Not starting Thursday

Seager isn't starting Thursday's game against the Rockies, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Seager had recorded hits in each of the last four games, but he'll get a breather ahead of the team's weekend series against the Padres. Gavin Lux will shift to shortstop while Zach McKinstry starts at second base Thursday.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Not starting Thursday

Story isn't starting Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

Story will get his first day off this year after slashing .265/.308/.367 with four extra-base hits and four RBI across 13 games to begin the season. Alan Trejo will receive his first major-league start at shortstop Thursday, batting eighth.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Out of Thursday's lineup

Rojas is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas is hitting .275 with zero home runs and three steals through 10 games. Jazz Chisholm will start at shortstop while Jon Berti gets the start at the keystone.
