  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Pops sixth homer

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Reds.

The shortstop took Nick Lodolo deep in the sixth inning, but the Cubs were already in a 3-0 hole at that point. Swanson is beginning to show faint signs of life at the plate -- while he's batting just .233 (7-for-30) over the last eight games, four of those hits have gone for extra bases, including two of his six homers on the year. His 1:10 BB:K over that stretch remains an eyesore, however, and his .628 OPS and 28.5 percent strikeout rate on the season would both be career worsts.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Could deploy at 3B

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo is considering giving Alexander more looks at third base, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

With Geraldo Perdomo (knee) due back in the coming days, Lovullo is evaluating potential roster decisions to accommodate his return. Perdomo's pending return puts a focus on Alexander and Kevin Newman. Alexander, who has made four appearances (two starts) at third base over the last 13 games, went 10-for-21 over a five-game hitting streak that ended Friday. At some point, the Diamondbacks may look for options to spell starting third baseman Eugenio Suarez, whose average has dropped to .198, while he is 2-for-23 over the last seven games.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Plays full game in field

Perdomo (knee) started at shortstop and went 0-for-4 for Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Perdomo played a third consecutive day for Reno and his first nine-inning game in the field. Including time spent in the Arizona Complex League, he's played six games and is 3-for-19. The Diamondbacks are considering roster options for Perdomo's pending return, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. He'll slide back into his starting shortstop position, which puts the focus on Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | SD

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Breaks slump Friday

Kim went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Kim went 0-for-10 with two walks over the previous three games before breaking out Friday. The homer was his eighth of the year but just his second over the last 18 contests. The shortstop has a .223/.332/.393 slash line with 29 RBI, 34 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 66 games. While his ratios are a bit adrift compared to his last two seasons, Kim continues to hold down a starting role and is delivering solid production in the counting stats.

  • Kevin Newman SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: On bench Friday

Newman is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego.

The 30-year-old will yield to Blaze Alexander on Friday despite Newman's current six-game hit streak. On the year, Newman is slashing .260/.294/.377 with a 14.8 percent strikeout rate in 155 plate appearances.

  • Liover Peguero SS | PIT

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Sent to Triple-A

Peguero was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

The 23-year-old was called up by Pittsburgh on Tuesday and will return to Indianapolis without appearing in a big-league game. Peguero has a .272/.341/.378 slash line with two homers, 34 RBI, 32 runs and five steals in 51 games at Triple-A this year.

  • Tim Anderson SS | MIA

Marlins' Tim Anderson: On bereavement list

Anderson was placed on the bereavement list Friday.

Anderson will be away from the team as he tends to personal matters. While he's absent, Vidal Brujan and the recently promoted Xavier Edwards should handle the work at shortstop. Anderson is slashing just .188/.221/.206 in 172 plate appearances this season.

  • Sammy Stafura SS | CIN

Reds' Sammy Stafura: Success carrying over at Single-A

Stafura is slashing .294/.351/.441 with one home run, one steal and a 13.5 percent strikeout rate in eight games since getting promoted to Single-A Daytona.

He was dreadful in the Arizona Complex League in a small sample last year (.071 AVG, 43.4 K%) after getting drafted with the No. 43 overall pick, but Stafura seems to have adjusted better to pro pitching in his first full season. He hit .345 with a .486 BABIP and 29 percent strikeout rate in the ACL this year as a 19-year-old, and the real test will be how he fares over a long stretch against Single-A pitchers. Given that he was a prep hitter from the Northeast, it would make sense that he would be a bit of a late bloomer.

  • Adael Amador 2B | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: Slow start in rearview mirror

Amador has homered in three straight games and is slashing .333/.422/.741 with seven home runs and seven steals in his last 13 games for Double-A Hartford.

The prized second baseman slashed .135/.309/.144 with one extra-base hit in his first 32 games of the season, so his overall season stats aren't spectacular, but Amador is beginning to show the type of update that his dynasty managers were expecting. Amador is also a threat on the bases, having stolen 22 bags on 25 attempts in 45 games. He should be Ezequiel Tovar's double-play partner in Colorado for most, if not all, of 2025.

  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Homers, steals bag

Crus went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored during Thursday's 11-7 loss to the Dodgers.

Cruz took Evan Phillips yard in the eighth inning for a three-run shot, his first home run in 15 games. While 2024 hasn't been the breakout season that fantasy managers may have expected for the talented shortstop, Cruz has eight homers, 13 doubles and five stolen bases through 229 plate appearances.
