Rockies' Trevor Story: Could resume baseball activities Thursday

Manager Bud Black said Story (elbow) is going to Arizona on Thursday to "get more treatment" and "maybe do a few baseball activities" there, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Black added that Story is day-to-day and "it truly is encouraging where he is," according to Buster Olney of ESPN. The shortstop exited Monday's game with right elbow soreness after making a diving stop in the field, but a subsequent MRI ruled out structural damage. Ian Desmond is starting at shortstop in his place Wednesday.

  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

Pirates' Pablo Reyes: Contributes to Tuesday's victory

Reyes went 2-for-5 and threw a runner out at home plate in Tuesday's win over the Royals.

He's already played four spots around the diamond, positioning himself nicely for the team's super-sub role in 2019. Reyes, 25, slashed .284/.337/.421 with eight homers and 16 stolen bases in the minors. He's collected 10 hits in 23 at-bats in his September debut for Pittsburgh.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Smacks 33rd home run

Baez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and two strikeouts in Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Baez got the scoring started early, smashing a two-run home run in the first inning. The 25-year-old is firmly in the mix for the NL MVP with 33 home runs, 107 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a .295/.329/.571 slash line.

Rockies' Trevor Story: Avoids structural damage

Story (elbow) underwent an MRI on Tuesday and manager Bud Black said, "there's some inflammation and a little bit of soreness around the joint but the ligament seems to be fine."

Story exited Monday's game with right elbow soreness and there was fear earlier Tuesday that he may have suffered damage to the UCL, but thankfully he appears to be dealing with a less severe issue. The 25-year-old is without an official timetable for his return at this point but will hopefully be able to return within a few days.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Out of lineup; update forthcoming

Story (elbow) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.

Garrett Hampson starts at shortstop after Story injured his elbow Monday night. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported earlier Tuesday that Story may have UCL damage. The Rockies are expected to provide an update around 7:30 PT.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Out of lineup Tuesday

Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Padres, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Crawford finds himself on the bench following a string of eight consecutive starts during which he slashed .226/.226/.323 with a homer and a stolen base. Kelby Tomlinson is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff in his place.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Slugs 18th homer

DeJong went 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run in a win over the Braves on Monday.

DeJong was one of four Cardinals to leave the yard in Monday's offensive explosion. The shortstop has hit 10 of his 18 homers on the season since the All-Star-break, but his .285 on-base percentage in the second half represents a 56-point drop from the figure he generated before the Midsummer Classic.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Situated on bench

Arcia is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds.

Arcia will hit the bench after starting the last three games at shortstop, going 2-for-8 with a pair of doubles and an RBI over that stretch. Jonathan Schoop will cover shortstop in his absence.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Gets breather Tuesday

Swanson is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Swanson has started 15 of the team's 16 games to start the month, slashing .220/.310/.360 with five RBI and three stolen bases over that stretch. The 24-year-old will take a seat on the bench Tuesday, allowing Charlie Culberson to pick up a start at shortstop.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Potentially dealing with UCL damage

Story potentially has UCL damage in his right elbow, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

The exact diagnosis is not yet known, but it would be a huge blow to Story and the Rockies if the shortstop's injury ultimately requires Tommy John surgery. Story, who is in the midst of an MVP-caliber season, exited Monday's game against the Dodgers with a right elbow injury after making a diving stab in the field in the first inning.
