  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Ticketed for full-time role in return to bigs

Braves manager Brian Snitker confirmed that Swanson, who was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett, will be the team's everyday shortstop, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. He'll enter the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies, batting eighth.

Despite his immense struggles at the plate with the big club earlier this season, Swanson is still viewed as an integral part of the Braves' rebuild, so it's no surprise that he'll receive regular at-bats upon rejoining the big club. Swanson will take over the role that had previously fallen to Johan Camargo, who was moved to the disabled list after suffering a bone bruise on his right knee while running onto the field prior to Tuesday's game. The Braves expect Camargo to miss at least two weeks with the injury, so Swanson will have a decent length of time to try and improve upon his dismal .213/.287/.312 slash line.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Formally placed on DL

Camargo (knee) was placed on the 10-day DL on Wednesday.

In a stroke of horrible luck, Camargo was injured while running onto the field for Tuesday's game. He was later diagnosed with a right knee bone bruise, and the expectation is that he will miss at least two weeks. Dansby Swanson will likely serve as the primary shortstop until Camargo is cleared to return.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Resumes hitting, throwing Monday

Ahmed (hand) was cleared to begin hitting and throwing Monday, Jarrid Denney of MLB.com reports.

The shortstop has only gone through light hitting drills the last two days, batting off a tee and taking underhand tosses to test out his swing. He's hopeful to ramp up his activity and get in the batting cage later in the week before eventually facing pitching in batting-practice sessions. Ahmed noted that he's slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery after fracturing his right hand on June 27, but since the Diamondbacks recently moved him to the 60-day disabled list, he won't be eligible to return until the end of the month.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Recalled from Triple-A

Swanson was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

With Johan Camargo set to go on the DL due to a right knee bone bruise that will likely keep him out for a couple weeks, Swanson heads back to the big-league club prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies. The 23-year-old is in line for a great deal of playing time until Camargo returns, but has only gone 9-for-38 at the plate during his 11-game stay at the Triple-A level. In 324 at-bats with Atlanta this year, Swanson is hitting just .213/.287/.312 with six home runs and 35 RBI. Moving forward, Swanson will have to make the most out of this opportunity if he's going to earn semi-regular starts throughout the rest of the season once Camargo is ready for action.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Headed for DL with bone bruise

The Braves now report that Camargo was diagnosed with a right knee bone bruise Tuesday. He will be placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.

Camargo was fortunate to avoid any ligament damage in his knee, but he will still require a trip to the disabled list to allow himself ample time to heal. A roster replacement hasn't been announced yet, though Dansby Swanson is the most likely candidate to join the big-league club while Camargo is sidelined. Initial estimates suggest that the shortstop will be out for a couple of weeks.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Hyperextends knee Tuesday

Camargo was diagnosed with a hyperextended right knee Tuesday.

Camargo suffered the knee injury after coming down awkwardly while hopping over the first base line as he entered the field to start the game. He will undergo an MRI in the coming hours which will provide more details with regards to the severity of the injury. David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Dansby Swanson was removed from his game with Triple-A Gwinnett, so it appears that he could be recalled if Camargo ends up on the DL.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Suffers apparent knee injury

Camargo was removed from Tuesday's game against the Phillies with an apparent knee injury, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

In what was a bit of a freak injury, Camargo appeared to injure his right knee while hopping over the first base line while heading on to the field prior to the top of the first inning. He was helped off the diamond by team trainers and was immediately replaced by Jace Peterson at shortstop.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Goes deep again Monday

DeJong went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 11-3 win over the Royals.

DeJong put a capper on the Cardinals' second consecutive scoring barrage with a 384-foot shot to left with a man on in the ninth. The rookie has hits in four straight -- including a pair of homers and four RBI -- in his last four contests, and he's blasted 10 of his 16 round trippers over the last calendar month.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Slaps inside-the-park homer

Baez went 1-for-4 with a two-run, inside-the-park home run during Monday's win over San Francisco.

Baez hit two balls that likely would have been homers in most parks, and he also struck out twice swinging at pitches that were in the opposite batter's box. It's frustrating to watch, but his fantasy numbers are trending in the right direction. Despite his all-or-nothing approach, Baez sports a serviceable .268/.311/.493 slash line with 16 homers, 48 RBI, five stolen bases and 44 runs.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Could start hitting soon

Turner (wrist) may be cleared to resume hitting in the coming days as he continues to progress through his rehab, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

The Nationals will likely ease Turner into hitting activities slowly, with the 24-year-old presumably getting some work in with a tee and in soft toss before progressing to batting practice. The nature of Turner's injury will leave some question about his ability to drive the ball with authority once he eventually comes off the disabled list, but even if he's slow to regain power, he's still likely to offer enough in terms of steals and runs to bring value to fantasy owners.
