  • Ruben Tejada SS | BAL

Giants' Ruben Tejada: Gets contract purchased by Giants, will start Wednesday

Tejada will start at third base for Wednesday's game against the A's after his contract was purchased by the Giants prior to the game, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Tejada is in the lineup at third base while batting ninth Wednesday, which will be his first game back in the majors since May 26 when he was a member of the Cardinals. He was just 6-for-34 during his time with St. Louis, batting a quadriceps injury, but will bring solid defense to the Giants' infield while he is with the club.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Remains out of lineup Wednesday

Diaz (face) is still out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Diaz left Monday's game after fouling a ball off his face in the ninth inning and subsequently missed Tuesday's game after going to the hospital Monday night for additional tests. He will be out of the lineup for the second straight day, with Greg Garcia starting his sixth game at shortstop this season. Diaz will likely miss a couple more games while his swelling goes down.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Will not play Wednesday

Story (finger) will not play in Wednesday's game against Toronto, Jenny Cavnar of Root Sports reports.

Story missed Monday's game after being hit by a pitch Sunday, and after re-injuring the finger in an at-bat yesterday, he won't start Wednesday to give him two days of rest with an off day Thursday. Christhian Adames will fill in at shortstop in Story's absence.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Ahmed is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies.

With Ahmed out of the lineup, Jean Segura will move to shortstop and Phil Gosselin will cover second base. Ahmed, who's 7-for-16 over the last seven days, will likely return to the lineup Friday when Arizona faces Johnny Cueto and the Giants.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Drives in five against Athletics

Crawford knocked in five runs as part of a 3-for-5 game in Tuesday's loss to Oakland.

Crawford is a red-hot 5-for-10 with seven RBI over his past two games. He is still without a home run this month, but he has an amazing 20 RBI in 24 games (22 starts). Crawford has just six home runs this year and looks like he won't be able to match his career high of 21, set last year, unless he hits an extended hot streak soon.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Hits first MLB grand slam in 15th inning

Baez went 1-for-7 with a grand slam in the 15th inning of Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Baez made the most of his one hit by crushing a two-strike pitch with two outs to dead center field for his first career grand slam. The blast gave the 23-year-old third baseman seven for the season, and upped his RBI total to 25. Baez is slashing .256/.301/.430 in 172 at-bat this year.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Story (finger) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

X-rays on Story's finger were negative after he was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Sunday's game, and he will return Tuesday after missing just one start. He has been batting out of the five-hole more of late but will bat second against lefty J.A. Happ on Tuesday. Story is batting .272/.372/.506 against left-handed pitching so far this season.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: X-rays negative, but likely to miss multiple games

X-rays on Diaz's face revealed no fractures and he is expected to return to action once the swelling near his eye subsides, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Diaz was involved in a scary incident Monday in which he fouled a ball off his face and required a trip to the hospital. He's out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest and he'll likely miss a couple more games while the swelling near his eye goes down. Greg Garcia will likely see an uptick in playing time for the next few days while Diaz is sidelined.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Out of lineup Tuesday

Diaz (face) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Kansas City, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.

Diaz fouled a ball off his face in the ninth inning of Monday's game and although the team does not think he has a fracture, he'll likely miss a game or two as the swelling subsides. Greg Garcia, who's making his fifth start at shortstop this season, looks to see an uptick in playing time while Diaz is sidelined.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Plays center field for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday

Turner got the start in center field for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, The Washington Post reports.

He went an uncharacteristic 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk, but his focus was likely in the field rather than at the plate as he'd never played the outfield before as a pro. The Nationals could desperately use Turner's on-base skills at the top of their lineup, but Danny Espinosa has played just well enough at shortstop to keep the job and Daniel Murphy isn't budging from second base, so the team is getting creative as they try to find a spot in the lineup for him. Current Nats center field options Ben Revere and Michael Taylor have also combined for an unsightly .251 OBP and 566 OPS. Having to adjust to a new defensive position could delay Turner's promotion even further however, so at this point don't expect to see him in Washington until after the All-Star break at least.
