  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Ejected, could face suspension

Anderson went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout in a 7-3 loss to the Athletics on Friday. He was ejected from the game for arguing balls and strikes.

With the White Sox trailing 5-3 in the seventh, Anderson took exception to a called first strike that caught the top inside corner of the zone. He stepped out of the batter's box and exchanged words with home plate umpire Nick Mahrley, who promptly threw Anderson out of the game. Anderson then encroached on Mahrley's personal space and the brim of Anderson's helmet made contact with Mahrley's head. Anderson had previously been suspended three games for making contact with an umpire in 2021, and he could be face another suspension for his actions in Friday night's game.

  • Tommy Edman LF | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Steals base in win

Edman went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 6-2 win over Washington.

Edman singled, stole second and crossed home in the third inning. He's up to 21 stolen bases on the year but just two of those have come over the last 23 games. The 27-year-old is slashing .256/.322/.370 with 66 runs scored and 27 extra-base hits through 98 games. Since his last home run June 14, Edman has gone 30-for-144 (.208) with nine RBI and 33 strikeouts.

  • Edwin Arroyo 2B | CIN

Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Traded to Reds in Castillo deal

Arroyo was traded from the Mariners to the Reds on Friday along with Noelvi Marte, Andrew Moore and Levi Stoudt in exchange for Luis Castillo, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Arroyo has improved his prospect stock as much as any teenager from the 2021 draft class this season. A switch-hitting shortstop who turns 19 on Aug. 25, Arroyo is hitting .316/.385/.514 with 13 home runs and 21 steals in 87 games at Low-A. Marte, the other headliner in the deal, may end up at third base, and the Reds also have Elly De La Cruz as a potential shortstop of the future, so Arroyo could end up moving to second base or the outfield in time, as he is athletic enough to play anywhere.

  • Noelvi Marte RF | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Dealt to Cincy in Castillo deal

Marte was traded from the Mariners to the Reds on Friday along with Edwin Arroyo, Andrew Moore and Levi Stoudt in exchange for Luis Castillo, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

After a slow start, Marte has heated up over the past couple months and is hitting .270/.360/.460 with 15 home runs, 12 steals, a 10.8 BB% and a 21.1 K% in 84 games at High-A. Marte will face a tough test when he gets bumped to Double-A, possibly before the end of this season. The 6-foot-1 infielder will likely end up at third base long term, although he has only played shortstop thus far in pro ball.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Nearing rehab assignment

Crawford (knee) is nearly pain free and could be close to starting a rehab assignment, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

He was cleared for a running program at the beginning of the week, and it sounds like Crawford could head out on a rehab assignment in the coming days. The veteran shortstop slashed .215/.297/.332 with five home runs and one steals in 72 games before being placed on the IL just before the All-Star break.

  • Josh H. Smith 2B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Out against lefty

Smith is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Day-to-day with leg contusion

Seager is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels and is officially listed as day-to-day with a right leg contusion, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

He exited Thursday's game after fouling a ball off his leg. It is fortunately just a bruise, so Seager should avoid a trip to the injured list. Marcus Semien and Charlie Culberson will start in the middle infield.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Getting second opinion

Story will get a second opinion on his hand injury in the coming days, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox don't think Story is dealing with any structural issues in his right hand, but he's still feeling discomfort and will be further evaluated as a result. The 29-year-old has been on the injured list since mid-July, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to game action.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Padres' CJ Abrams: Remains out of lineup

Abrams (biceps) isn't starting Friday against the Twins.

Abrams is out of the lineup for a fifth consecutive game as he continues to deal with a biceps injury, but it's not yet clear whether he'll ultimately require a trip to the injured list. Ha-Seong Kim is starting at shortstop and batting eighth.

  • Kahlil Watson RF | CLE

    Marlins' Kahlil Watson: Resumes playing

Watson is in the lineup for Single-A Jupiter on Friday.

Watson hit .273/.500/.727 with one home run, five walks and five strikeouts in five games in the Florida Complex League. He was disciplined by the team recently for an incident where he pointed his bat toward an umpire like a gun. Watson hit .221 with eight home runs and a 39.3 K% in 59 games at Single-A earlier this season.
