Ahmed was removed from Thursday's game against the Rockies due to an apparent hand injury, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Ahmed was hit by a pitch in the hand during the third inning Thursday, and while he initially stayed in the game, the shortstop was ultimately removed prior to the start of the fifth frame. Specifics regarding the injury are not yet clear, but more should be known once he's further evaluated in the coming days.

Manager AJ Hinch said he doesn't think Diaz (hamstring) will "factor into the major-league team" before the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Diaz has been sidelined since May 26 with a left hamstring injury, and the Astros will be without him for at least another three weeks following a setback earlier in the month. With Diaz and Carlos Correa (ribs) both on the mend, Jack Mayfield and Alex Bregman should continue to see the majority of playing time at shortstop for Houston.

Manager Ned Yost said he doesn't think Mondesi (groin) will spend more than 12 days on the injured list, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Mondesi landed on the injured list Thursday with what is being described as a low-grade groin strain. He's eligible to return June 29, and it sounds like the speedy shortstop will be back at or around that date, barring setbacks. In the meantime, Nicky Lopez will likely cover shortstop in Mondesi's absence.

This isn't all too surprising, as Correa has made little progress since landing on the injured list at the end of May with a cracked rib. The shortstop was originally handed a 4-to-6-week return timetable, and he sounds like he's trending toward a return near the back end of that timeline. With Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) also expected to remain sidelined through the All-Star break, Jack Mayfield and Alex Bregman should continue to see the majority of time at shortstop for the Astros.

Mondesi (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

He left Tuesday's game with right groin tightness and will get at least 10 days to rest up. Nicky Lopez will likely move to shortstop while Whit Merrifield moves to second base, at least against right-handed pitching (Merrifield may start at first base against southpaws). Infielder Humberto Arteaga's contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

Story was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a sprained right thumb, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.

Story suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, and while X-rays cleared him of any structural damage, the issue is still serious enough to warrant a stay on the shelf. He's set to undergo additional tests and visit a specialist in the coming days, after which a timetable for his return will hopefully come into focus. In the meantime, Brendan Rodgers was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move and is a candidate to see time at shortstop in Story's absence.

Crawford went 1-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk and two runs in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Crawford set the table effectively for both Domingo Santana and Daniel Vogelbach, who drove in seven of the eight runs on the night for the Mariners. The young shortstop has been relatively quiet since generating a multi-hit effort in his first game back from an ankle injury last Friday, but he has managed to reach safely in each of his first six games since returning.

Story (thumb) isn't listed in the Rockies' lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Even though X-rays cleared Story of any structural damage to the right thumb he jammed in Wednesday's contest, he was never a good bet to make it back in the lineup for a day game after a night game. Story's status remains up in the air at this point and likely won't be fully known until the results of the MRI he underwent Thursday are announced. Expect manager Bud Black to provide an update on Story's situation later in the day.

Story will undergo an MRI on Thursday after exiting Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks with what Colorado is classifying as a jammed right thumb, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Shortly after departing in the sixth inning, Story was sent in for X-rays on the thumb, which returned negative. Though Story has been cleared of any structural damage to the thumb, the MRI will clarify whether he's dealing with an injury serious enough to require a trip to the injured list. Pat Valaika replaced Story on Wednesday, and the Rockies could summon Brendan Rodgers or Garrett Hampson from Triple-A Albuquerque for additional help at shortstop in the event Story needs to be shut down.

Cruz (foot) appears on track to accelerate his rehab program and build up toward a return to game action in 7-to-10 days, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Cruz has been idle since late April after fracturing his rght foot while playing for High-A Bradenton. Due to the length of his absence, Cruz will likely need to prove his health by appearing in multiple nine-inning simulated games and extended spring training games before the organization clears him to return from the 7-day injured list. Cruz was hitting .238 with a home run and four steals in 11 games with Bradenton prior to being shut down.
