  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Imaging clear, sitting Sunday

Volpe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, but he's considered day-to-day after receiving encouraging MRI and X-ray results, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

The 24-year-old felt a "pop" in his left shoulder during Saturday's contest while diving for a groundball, but he appears to have avoided a serious injury. Volpe will sit for at least one game, while Oswald Peraza receives a start at shortstop in his place.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Receiving afternoon off

Story is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

David Hamilton will step in at shortstop while Story heads to the bench for the first time since April 20 in what appears to be a routine maintenance day. While starting in each of Boston's last 12 games, Story went just 9-for-50 at the dish, dropping his season-long batting average from .318 to .267.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Goes deep again Saturday

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Brewers.

Swanson has now gone deep three times over his last five games, and he has seven home runs overall for the year. The shortstop has been better following a slow start, as he's slashing .308/.357/.615 in his last 10 contests, pushing his season numbers up to .215/.262/.422.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Remains hot Saturday

Crawford went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday.

Crawford swatted the first pitch of the game -- an 88-mph sinker from Patrick Corbin -- over the right-field fence, but that proved to be the only run the Mariners managed to score in the contest. The long ball extended Crawford's hitting streak to 11 games, a span during which he's batting .386 (17-for-44) with three homers and 13 RBI. Prior to the red-hot stretch, the veteran shortstop had knocked in just four runs over his first 20 games of 2025.

  • Bo Bichette SS | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Belts first homer of season

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Guardians.

The shortstop drove the first pitch he saw from Gavin Williams over the left-field fence to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The home run was Bichette's first of the season, and his first in 11 months, with his previous long ball coming May 27, 2024. While his power has been slow to return, Bichette is otherwise enjoying something of a bounce-back campaign, slashing .284/.320/.376 through 33 games with three steals, 13 runs and 14 RBI.

  • Rays' Chandler Simpson: Swipes two bags off bench

Simpson entered Saturday's 3-2 win over the Yankees as a pinch runner in the eighth inning, swiping two bags and scoring a run before grounding out in his only plate appearance in the ninth.

With the Rays down 2-1, the rookie speedster replaced Christopher Morel at first base after a leadoff single, and Simpson pilfered both second and third before being driven home by Curtis Mead. It's the first time in 13 big-league games that Simpson has stolen multiple bags, but it likely won't be the last. He's slashing .286/.327/.306 to begin his career with five stolen bases in six attempts.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Tweaks left shoulder

Volpe said after Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Rays that he felt a "pop" in his left shoulder in the eighth inning, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

Volpe injured his left shoulder while diving for a groundball, but he was able to stay in the game after being checked on by trainers. X-rays after Saturday's game came back clean, but the 24-year-old shortstop will undergo further testing and is in jeopardy of missing Sunday's series finale. Oswaldo Cabrera and Pablo Reyes could fill in at shortstop if Volpe were to be sidelined.

  • Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Moved to injured list

The Pirates placed Kiner-Falefa on the injured list Saturday due to a right hamstring strain.

Kiner-Falefa hadn't played since Wednesday due to the injury, and the issue is serious enough to warrant a trip to the IL. With Kiner-Falefa out of action, Jared Triolo will likely take over as the team's everyday shortstop. The Pirates selected the contract of pitcher Tanner Rainey from Triple-A Indianapolis and moved pitcher Justin Lawrence (elbow) from the 15-day to the 60-day IL in corresponding transactions.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent back to Round Rock

The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

Ornelas was brought onto the active roster Friday to replace Nick Ahmed but will now head back to the minors to make room for Corey Seager, who was activated from the IL on Saturday. Ornelas hasn't had much success at the plate this season, going 0-for-5 during his brief stints in the majors and logging a .414 OPS across 67 Triple-A plate appearances.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Activated from IL

The Rangers reinstated Seager (hamstring) from the injured list Saturday.

Seager has been out of action since April 23 due to a strained right hamstring, but the 10-day minimum is all he needed to make a full recovery. He'll slide back into his usual role as Texas' everyday shortstop and look to pick up where he left off after slashing .302/.362/.524 during April. Jonathan Ornelas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.
