  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Placed on disabled list

Story was placed on the DL on Thursday with a strained left shoulder, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Story was withheld from Wednesday's lineup, and it would appear that his shoulder injury was the contributing factor behind his absence. Story's season has gotten off to a slow start, as he's slashing .180/.289/.396 and owns a dismal 37.5 percent K-rate. The Rockies have yet to elaborate on the severity of Story's injury, but more information should become available soon. With Story on the disabled list, look for Pat Valaika and Alexi Amarista to see time at shortstop.

  • Marlins' Dee Gordon: Swipes two bags Wednesday

Gordon went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two stolen bases in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Hitting ninth in the order behind the pitcher doesn't seem to have slowed Gordon down on the basepaths, and he now has 11 steals on the season in 13 attempts. Expect to see him back in the leadoff spot soon enough as Marlins manager Don Mattingly continues to tinker with his struggling lineup.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Records two hits for second straight game

Owings went 2-for-5 with a double in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Tigers.

Owings recorded two hits in both of the Diamondbacks' games against the Tigers, raising his batting average up to .311 for the season. Though Owings has certainly benefited from a lofty .372 BABIP this season, he sports a .324 mark for his career and has raised his hard-hit rate to a career-best 34.1 percent, so dramatic regression in his batting average may not be in store.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Pops second homer Wednesday

Ahmed went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Tigers.

The homer was his second of the season. The 27-year-old isn't having the same impressive start to the season offensively that Chris Owings is, but Ahmed's .704 OPS would still be a career high if he can keep it up.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Doubles in win Wednesday

Seager went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Pirates.

After a strong start to the season, Seager has cooled off in May, batting just .188 with no RBI through eight contests. Even with his recent slump, the 23-year-old owns a solid .286/.381/.471 slash line on the season. The Dodgers are about to begin a four-game series against the Rockies at Coors Field, which is usually the ideal remedy for any hitter to snap out of a funk.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Doubles up on doubles in Wednesday's win

Correa went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Atlanta.

Correa, whose three-run homer was the winning hit Tuesday, provided the deciding knock for the second straight game with a two-run double in the fifth inning. He's been on an extra-base-hit roll of late -- Wednesday's two-baggers give him 10 for the season, all coming in the last 14 games, and he's slugging .585 during that stretch.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Mashing with Lansing

Bichette, 19, is hitting .365/.450/.594 with three home runs and three steals (on four attempts) in 111 plate appearances with Low-A Lansing.

Bichette has yet to post a BABIP below .440 in 46 games as a pro, so it's difficult to get a read on what kind of batting average we can expect from him as he moves up the ladder. That said, it's pretty difficult to find a flaw in his game at the moment, as his 12.6 percent walk rate and 18.9 percent strikeout rate are both elite for a player with his offensive tools.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Sitting out Wednesday

Story is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Story played in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader, going a combined 2-for-7 with a run scored, an RBI, one walk and two strikeouts. The 24-year-old's strikeout total is now up to 48 in 128 plate appearances this season and his infield flyball rate is up at 20 percent, but at least Story's walking at a good clip and he continues to make hard contact when he does put bat to ball.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Set for Thursday return

Crawford (groin) is expected to be activated and return to the lineup Thursday against the Reds, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The star shortstop has been out for over two weeks with the ailment, but appears ready to make a return to action as the Giants open up a four-game homestand. Crawford is hitting .263/.284/.434 with a .718 OPS this season, a solid start he will look to build on once he's reinserted into the lineup.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Homers in Tuesday's nightcap

Baez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Rockies in the second game of their doubleheader.

Baez hit his fifth home run of the season off Colorado reliever Mike Dunn, who entered the game with a 1.08 ERA and no home runs allowed this year. Playing time is still a bit of an issue with Baez, but he's a dynamic offensive player whenever he's in the lineup.
