The Tigers placed Baez (knee) on the bereavement list Sunday.

Baez had been a candidate to go on the bereavement list for nearly a week following the recent passing of his grandfather, but he ended up starting in four straight games before he was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 6-2 win over the Red Sox due to a sore right knee. Baez apparently suffered the injury Friday, and he'll now get some added time to heal up while he returns to his native Puerto Rico to attend his grandfather's funeral and mourn with his family. Per MLB rules, players must spent at least three days -- and no more than seven -- on the bereavement list, so Baez could rejoin the Tigers as soon as Wednesday for the team's game in Minnesota.

Turner went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Twins.

The Phillies' offensive malaise Saturday didn't slow down Turner's resurgence. The shortstop has hit safely in nine straight games, collecting multiple hits in five of them and batting .457 (16-for-35) over that stretch with six doubles, two homers, one steal, six runs and 10 RBI. While his numbers on the season remain well below expectations, Turner appears to have flipped the switch and could be poised for a stretch run worthy of a player who signed a $300 million contract over the winter.

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 5-4 win over Toronto.

Swanson came up big with a three-run home run off Chris Bassitt in the top of the fourth to put the Cubs up 4-1. The shortstop now has five long balls and 13 RBI in August, though he's batting just .171 for the month and came into Saturday's contest having failed to record a hit in each of his previous four games. He's also struck out 15 times already this month while drawing only two walks.

Velazquez hit a solo home run in his only at-bat in a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

Velazquez batted for Brandon Drury with the game out of hand in the ninth inning and belted his second homer of the year, a solo shot off Hector Neris. The speedster has seen very limited playing time of late -- this was his first plate appearance since July 30 and his first hit since he went 3-for-4 against Detroit on July 25.

Duran went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two RBI in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Giants.

Duran also had a sacrifice fly in the contest, but he came up a homer shy of the cycle. He was in the lineup at designated hitter for a second straight game after he was hit on the hand by a pitch Wednesday. Duran should maintain a near-everyday role at least until Jonah Heim (wrist) returns to action, which could push Mitch Garver into the DH spot more frequently. Duran is slashing .282/.328/.483 with 14 home runs, six stolen bases, 42 RBI, 44 runs scored, 18 doubles and two triples over 93 contests.

Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, an additional RBI and two extra runs scored in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Giants.

Seager has five multi-hit efforts and five homers over his eight games since returning from a thumb injury. The shortstop reached the 20-homer mark for the fourth time in his career with his first-inning blast Saturday. He's added 68 RBI, 57 runs scored, 31 doubles and a stolen base while slashing .350/.410/.657 through 74 contests this season.

Tovar went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers.

Tovar homered on the first pitch of the game and provided two of the Rockies' three hits. He's gone 8-for-23 (.348) with two homers and two steals during his six-game hitting streak. The rookie shortstop has a .258/.292/.425 slash line with 12 long balls, seven thefts, 52 RBI and 54 runs scored over 110 contests this season. He got a turn at leadoff Saturday with Jurickson Profar resting, but Tovar has most often hit second in recent weeks.

Lindor went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in a 6-0 loss to Atlanta during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

The shortstop missed both Friday's contest and the first game of Saturday's twin bill after complaining of soreness on his right side, but an MRI came back negative and Lindor seemed to have no issues running in his return to action, beating out a potential double-play grounder in the first inning and then promptly stealing second base. Lindor is now one stolen base short of the third 20-20 campaign of his career, and his first as a Met -- his last came in 2019 with Cleveland.

Edman went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 victory over Kansas City.

Edman plated Tyler O'Neill in the second inning on a two-run shot off Craig Ragans then went deep again off Taylor Hearn in the eighth for a solo home run. The multi-homer effort was Edman's first of 2023 and pushed his season total to 10. The utility infielder has been red hot over his last four games, going 7-for-15 (.467) with five runs scored, three homers and a pair of doubles.

Basabe was called up from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Basabe appears set to make his major-league debut in the near future after he produced a .294 average with four homers, 57 RBI, 45 runs and 16 stolen bases over 384 at-bats with Durham this season. The shortstop is one of Tampa Bay's top prospects and could be asked to play multiple infield positions while with the big-league club.
