  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Pops fifth homer

Abrams went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Padres.

The shortstop got the Nationals on the board by taking Yu Darvish deep in the fifth inning. Three of Abrams' five homers on the year have come in his last nine games, a stretch in which he's also banged out three doubles while batting .265 (9-for-34) with a steal, six runs and eight RBI.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Slugs seventh homer

Bogaerts went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Nationals.

The shortstop snapped an 18-game homer drought that extended back to April 30, launching his seventh homer of the year off MacKenzie Gore in the first inning. Bogaerts batted only .176 (12-for-68) during his power outage with just three RBI, but this performance could be a sign he's about to turn things around.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: MRI shows heel inflammation

Correa was diagnosed with a bruised and inflamed left heel and is unlikely to play in Wednesday's series finale with the Giants, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Correa was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's 4-3 loss. With an off day Thursday, Correa would get three days off if he sits out Wednesday's game. Kyle Farmer started at shortstop in Tuesday's game and will likely stay at the position until Correa returns.

  • Matt McLain 2B | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Launches first big-league homer

McLain went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Cardinals.

The rookie launched his first career homer in the third inning, driving a two-run shot the other way to right field off Adam Wainwright. McLain was also caught stealing for the first time in the majors, but the 23-year-old shortstop has otherwise had a solid start to his big-league career, batting .259 (7-for-27) through seven games with three doubles, five RBI and seven runs.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Scratched with bruised heel

Correa was scratched from the lineup Tuesday due to a bruised left heel, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

This sounds like a day-to-day type of situation for Correa. Kyle Farmer will play shortstop and bat sixth versus the Giants and right-hander Alex Cobb. Donovan Solano is playing third base and hitting second.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Sitting versus lefty

Wendle isn't starting Tuesday against the Rockies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

With southpaw Austin Gomber set to start on the mound for Colorado, Wendle will begin Tuesday's contest in the dugout. Jon Berti will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Wendle's place.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Gets first day off Tuesday

Schmitt is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Twins.

This is the first day off for Schmitt since he joined the Giants' major-league roster May 9. Brandon Crawford is also sitting Tuesday. Thairo Estrada will play shortstop and J.D. Davis will cover first base. Brett Wisely is at second.

  • Otto Lopez SS | MIA

Blue Jays' Otto Lopez: Optioned to Triple-A

Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo by the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Lopez's stint in the big leagues lasted all of one day and he didn't make an appearance. Ernie Clement has taken his spot on the roster.

  • Tommy Edman LF | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Records steal in loss

Edman went 0-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Reds.

Edman wasn't able to get his bat going in his first turn at leadoff since May 13, but he at least picked up his seventh steal of the season. The versatile 28-year-old has gone 12-for-26 (.462) over his last eight contests with a home run, four steals and three RBI in that span. He's slashing .277/.333/.466 on the season.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Four RBI in extra-inning win

DeJong went 2-for-5 with a RBI double and three-run home run in Monday's 6-5 loss to the Reds in 10 innings.

DeJong hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the second to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead and tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI double in the eighth. He struck out in his other three plate appearances, but it was still a successful day at the plate for the shortstop. After a slow start in the power department, DeJong has picked up his slugging of late and is slashing .267/.362/.600 with six homers and 14 RBI over 17 appearances in May.
