The Rays recalled Scholtens from Triple-A Durham on Saturday.

Scholtens was called up by the Rays on Wednesday to serve in a long-relief role against the Cubs the same day, and he allowed four hits and one walk while striking out four across 4.2 scoreless innings. He was optioned to the minors Thursday, but he's back with the big club after Joe Boyle (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Scholtens has starting experience between the minors and majors and could see some spot starts in Tampa Bay's rotation for as long as Boyle is sidelined.

The Rays placed Boyle on the 15-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Friday, due to a right elbow strain.

Boyle likely picked up the injury during Wednesday's start against the Cubs, when he took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.1 innings. An MRI revealed a minor strain and some inflammation but no structural damage, and Rays manager Kevin Cash relayed to reporters Saturday that Boyle's placement on the 15-day IL is a "cautionary" move, per Ryan Bass of Rays.tv. Boyle is eligible to be activated off the IL in late April, though he'll undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury and establish an estimated timeline to return. In a corresponding move, the Rays recalled right-hander Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Durham.

The Tigers signed Gentry to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Gentry appeared in 86 games for Triple-A Omaha in the Royals organization in 2025, posting a .206/.284/.371 slash line with nine home runs and four steals over 332 plate appearances. He appeared in three major-league games for the Royals in 2024, though he's unlikely to surface in Detroit this season unless the Tigers are in desperate need for outfield depth.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Saturday that Verlander (hip) will make a rehab start before returning from the injured list, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Verlander will be eligible to return from the injured list Thursday, but the Tigers won't activate him right away and instead give him a tune-up outing before reintroducing him to the rotation. Once the veteran righty returns, Casey Mize or Keider Montero will likely be facing a demotion to the bullpen or Triple-A.

The Angels reinstated Grissom (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Grissom has been on the injured list for the first few weeks of the season due to a sprained left wrist, but he's been playing rehab games in Triple-A since March 31. The 25-year-old logged a base hit in each of his nine minor-league contests, finishing his assignment 12-for-35 (.343) with five RBI and a run scored. Now fully healthy, he'll make his season debut at second base and bat sixth against the Reds on Saturday, though Oswald Peraza and Adam Frazier remain in the mix for playing time at the keystone. Jeimer Candelario was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

Acuna isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

After beginning the series 0-for-6 with a sacrifice fly, Acuna will retreat to the bench Saturday. Andrew Benintendi, Tristan Peters and Dustin Harris will start across the outfield.

Vargas isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Vargas has gone 0-for-6 with a pair of walks through the first two games of the series and will now give way to Tanner Murray at third base.

Quero isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City.

Quero will receive a day off Saturday after going 2-for-7 across the first two games of the series. Reese McGuire will handle catching duties instead and bat ninth.

Okamoto isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.

Okamoto will get a chance to regroup Saturday after going 0-for-8 with a strikeout over his last two games. Ernie Clement will slide over to third base as a result, opening up the keystone for Davis Schneider.

Collins isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Collins will grab a seat on the bench after going 1-for-6 with a walk through the first two games of the series. Michael Massey will fill in as Kansas City's left fielder and bat eighth.
