Trout was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Royals due to a skin infection.

Trout's infection will prevent him from starting Tuesday, and it's currently unclear if his absence will extend further into the Angels' series against Kansas City. Jo Adell will fill in as the Halos' designated hitter while Trout sits, opening up right field for Chris Taylor.

Scherzer (back) is feeling better and is on track to make his regular turn through the rotation Saturday against the Yankees, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The 41-year-old surrendered four runs over four innings Sunday versus the Brewers while pitching through upper-back tightness, but he's been able to go through his regular between-starts routine the past couple days. Assuming Scherzer has no further issues, he should be ready to go for Saturday's divisional matchup.

Duran is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

It's the second straight game on the bench for Duran following three consecutive starts. Cody Freeman is receiving another start at second base while batting sixth.

Garcia (quadriceps) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Garcia will be absent from the starting nine for at least one game after suffering the quadriceps injury during Monday's win in Arizona. The 32-year-old outfielder should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale.

The Tigers optioned Sommers to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Since making his MLB debut Aug. 22, Sommers has given up six earned runs in just three innings of work. His poor performance will ultimately buy him a ticket back to the minors; meanwhile, the Tigers will bring up Bailey Horn from Toledo to round out their bullpen.

The Tigers recalled Horn from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Horn has given up one earned run in six innings over his five appearances with the Tigers this season. He'll now return to Detroit after a two-week stay in the minors to take the place of Drew Sommers, who was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move.

The Twins will shut down Festa (shoulder) for the remainder of the season, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Festa pitched in a rehab game at Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, striking out five batters and walking three over 2.2 shutout innings. However, he reported feeling renewed discomfort in his right shoulder afterward, so the Twins will now pivot and work to get the 25-year-old ready for next season. He'll close the book on 2025 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.28 WHIP to go with a 53:19 K:BB through 53.1 innings.

The Orioles designated Martin for assignment Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Martin appeared in 10 games in August, surrendering 14 total runs on 19 hits and five walks across 10.2 innings. He is getting cut loose from the Orioles along with Elvin Rodriguez as Baltimore reinstates both Tyler Wells (elbow) and Jorge Mateo (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list.

The Orioles designated Rodriguez for assignment Tuesday.

The Orioles needed to create roster space with Jorge Mateo (hamstring) and Tyler Wells (elbow) returning from the 60-day injured list, so Rodriguez will be jettisoned from the 40-man alongside Corbin Martin. Rodriguez has posted an unsightly 9.15 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 19.2 innings between Milwaukee and Baltimore this season, making it unlikely that another team targets him on waivers.

The Orioles reinstated Wells (elbow) from the injured list prior to his start Tuesday against the Padres.

Wells will make his season debut Tuesday after spending the year recovering from the UCL revision and brace augmentation procedure he underwent last June. The 31-year-old posted a 2.49 ERA and 1.11 WHIP alongside a 24:6 K:BB over 25.1 innings during his six rehab starts, and he built up to 6.1 frames during his most recent outing.
