The Tigers signed Rainey to a minor-league contract Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Rainey got into 11 games with Pittsburgh earlier this season, posting an ugly 10.57 ERA and 1.70 WHIP with a 9:6 K:BB over 7.2 innings. The righty has spent most of his MLB career with the Nationals, with arguably his most productive season coming in 2022, when he racked up 12 saves. Rainey will look to get back on track with Triple-A Toledo in an attempt to make it back up to the majors.

De Los Santos (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Somerset on Saturday.

De Los Santos began throwing off a mound July 5 after being shelved with an elbow injury in mid-June. He'll now begin the final stage of his recovery by playing in minor-league games, and he may still be able to return to the Yankees' bullpen before the end of the month.

The Red Sox returned Houck (elbow) from his rehab assignment Friday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Although Houck's 30-day rehab window is now closed, the fact that Boston has yet to activate him indicates he isn't quite ready to return. The 29-year-old righty posted a 5.74 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 15.2 innings during his five-start assignment, though he gave up only one run in his final two outings (9.1 IP). He also owns a hefty 8.04 ERA through 43.2 frames in the majors this year, so there's no guarantee he'll have a place in the Sox's rotation whenever he is activated.

Basallo is dealing with an injury to his oblique and will be out of action with Triple-A Norfolk for at least the weekend, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Basallo is the Orioles' top prospect and arguably the top catching prospect in all of baseball. It's not yet clear how severe the oblique issue is, but it's serious enough to sideline the rising star for at least the weekend. Basallo has a .264/.383/.591 slash line with 19 homers and 48 RBI through 62 games with Norfolk this season.

Jansen isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus Baltimore, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Jansen will get a breather Saturday after going 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and two walks in Friday's blowout victory. Matt Thaiss will start at catcher instead and bat ninth.

Mullins isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays.

Mullins struck out three times in four at-bats during Friday's contest and will now receive a day off to regroup. While he rests, Ramon Laureano, Colton Cowser and Tyler O'Neill will start across the outfield for the O's.

Baez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Rangers.

Baez collected a single and a stolen base during a loss in Friday's contest, and he'll now grab a seat on the bench while Trey Sweeney gets the nod to start at shortstop.

Dingler isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Texas.

The Tigers will give Dingler a day to rest Saturday after he went 0-for-2 with a walk in Friday's series opener. Jake Rogers will take over behind the dish and bat eighth.

Dominguez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Dominguez will step out of the lineup after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's series opener. Cody Bellinger will shift to left field as a result, opening up center field for Trent Grisham.

The Athletics activated Waldichuk (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Waldichuk underwent Tommy John surgery last May and had spent all season on the injured list up to this point. He kicked off a minor-league rehab assignment in late June and tallied a 7.63 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 17:16 K:BB over 15.1 innings spanning six appearances between Single-A Stockton and Las Vegas. The lefty threw 141 frames for the Athletics in 2023 and could certainly make his way back to the big club in due time, but he'll likely first need to harness his control issues in the minors before getting a look in the MLB rotation.
