Mountcastle (hamstring) said Friday that he began a hitting progression this week and is hoping to return once he's eligible for reinstatement July 30, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Mountcastle was given an 8-to-12 week return timeline, and he's trending toward being activated around the eight-week mark, having made significant strides in his recovery. The 28-year-old will have to avoid a setback, but he's on track for a late-July or early August return.

Ramirez (forearm) isn't part of the starting nine for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Manager Stephen Vogt said earlier Friday that Ramirez likely wouldn't be able to play Friday due to a bruised right forearm. As expected, the third baseman is out of the lineup, yielding hot-corner duties to Daniel Schneemann. Ramirez should be considered day-to-day going forward.

France is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers.

France will get the night off Friday after making six consecutive starts at first base. In his place, Kody Clemens will start at first base and bat seventh.

The Guardians activated Sabrowski (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Sabrowski has been sidelined since spring training due to left elbow inflammation, and he's finally been cleared to make his 2025 debut. The 27-year-old threw 12.2 scoreless innings for Cleveland last season, but he has struggled a bit during his rehab assignment, logging a 5.14 ERA over seven innings at Triple-A Columbus. Sabrowski will take Zak Kent's spot on the active roster.

The Guardians optioned Kent to Triple-A Columbus on Friday.

In a corresponding move, Cleveland activated Erik Sabrowski (elbow) from the 60-day injured list. Kent has appeared in four games out of the bullpen for the Guardians this season, registering a 6.14 ERA and 8:5 K:BB across 7.1 innings.

The Red Sox recalled Sogard from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Sogard will step onto the active roster temporarily in place of Marcelo Mayer, who's on the bereavement list. In 53 plate appearances with Boston, Sogard is slashing .245/.302/.306 with eight runs scored and two RBI.

The Red Sox placed Mayer on the bereavement list Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Mayer will be away from the team temporarily as he tends to personal matters. Nick Sogard was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, Mayer is expected to return Monday.

The Athletics designated McFarland for assignment on Friday.

The left-hander spent most of May on the IL due to a groin injury before being activated in early June, and he'll lose his place on the 26-man and 40-man rosters after giving up six runs in nine outings after being reinstated. McFarland has a decent track record in the majors and will have the option to elect free agency if he clears waivers.

The Athletics called up Alvarado from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Alvarado will take T.J. McFarland's spot in the A's bullpen. The 26-year-old reliever has cruised to a 3.18 ERA and a 34:13 K:BB over 28.1 innings at Triple-A, but he's yielded five runs in six innings with the Athletics this season.

The Orioles optioned Young to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Young was brought up to make a start Wednesday against Texas, and he yielded four runs in four innings during the appearance. He'll head back to Norfolk, where he's logged a 2.63 ERA and a 17:4 K:BB across 27.1 innings. Kade Strowd will take Young's spot on the active roster.
