Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Takes step back in loss

Bradish (3-7) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts over four innings.

Bradish was mostly done in by a four-run third inning, though he allowed at least one baserunner in every frame before departing at 81 pitches. It was the 29-year-old's shortest outing since another five-run loss May 2, snapping a five-start stretch in which he had surrendered just six earned runs overall. He'll take a 3.89 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 68:36 K:BB across 69.1 innings into a home matchup against the Mariners next week.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Activated from IL, starting at 1B

The Angels activated Schanuel (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Schanuel missed the minimum 10 days after landing on the IL on May 27 due to left ankle tendinitis. The 24-year-old is back in the starting lineup Saturday, batting fifth and starting at first base. Schanuel has slashed .262/.313/.387 with four home runs and 24 RBI across 208 plate appearances this season.

  • Spencer Miles RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Spencer Miles: Earns win in bulk relief

Miles (3-1) earned the win in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Miles entered in the second inning and allowed a homer to the second batter he faced but was able to settle in for the win, throwing 48 of 73 pitches for strikes and recording five strikeouts despite generating only five whiffs. It was a nice rebound after the 25-year-old surrendered six runs in a starting role Sunday, and he has now yielded two earned runs or fewer while working at least three frames in five of his past six outings. He owns a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 39:13 K:BB across 40.2 innings this season, including two starts and 15 relief appearances.

  • Louie Varland RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Louis Varland: Secures 10th save

Varland tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles. He did not record a strikeout.

Varland was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and did so on just eight pitches. The 28-year-old is now a perfect 10-for-10 in save chances this season and has gone 17 straight appearances without allowing an earned run. He owns a 0.27 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB across 33.1 innings, with the lone knock on his fantasy value being that he's occasionally been deployed before the ninth frame in other high-leverage situations.

  • J.C. Escarra C | NYY

Yankees' J.C. Escarra: Back in majors

The Yankees recalled Escarra from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Escarra was sent down to Triple-A on Friday after putting up just a .493 OPS through 68 plate appearances, but he'll turn around and return to the Bronx now that Austin Wells (head) is on the injured list. Escarra will likely work in a timeshare alongside Ali Sanchez behind the plate until Wells returns.

  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Powers offense in win

Clement went 2-for-4 with a triple, a three-run home run and three total runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles.

Clement gave the Blue Jays a lead they wouldn't relinquish with a three-run blast in the third inning. The 30-year-old saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end Friday, but he has still opened June by going 8-for-21 through five contests. For the season, he's slashing .306/.327/.464 with six homers, 25 RBI, 29 runs scored and two steals across 257 plate appearances.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Placed on IL

The Yankees placed Wells on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to cervical headaches.

Wells has gone just 1-for-14 at the plate over his last five games, and his headaches will now force him to remain out until at least mid-June. J.C. Escarra was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move and will likely split reps behind the dish with Ali Sanchez.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Beginning rehab assignment

Wilson (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday, Jason Burke of Roundtable.io reports.

Wilson has been sidelined by a partial left shoulder dislocation since mid-May, but he's now been given the green light to begin testing his shoulder in a competitive setting. The A's haven't said exactly how many minor-league games they plan to have the 24-year-old play, but he figures to come off the injured list sometime next week.

  • Josh H. Smith 2B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Begins rehab assignment

Smith (glute/wrist/illness) began a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Saturday.

Smith has battled a glute injury, wrist inflammation and viral meningitis since landing on the injured list in early May, but he is now finally ready to begin playing in minor-league games. It's unknown how long the Rangers plan to keep the 28-year-old out on assignment, but he'll likely require a handful of rehab games after sitting out a month-plus.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Rangers' Danny Jansen: Lands on IL

The Rangers placed Jansen on the 10-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Wednesday, with a right forearm strain.

Jansen's strained forearm helps to explain why he hasn't played since Tuesday. Kyle Higashioka will fill in as Texas' primary catcher while Jansen takes at least another week off to recover, and new signee Elias Diaz will serve as the backup.
