Marcelo Mayer 3B | SF
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Fans three times in MLB debut
Mayer went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
The 22-year-old was promoted between games of the twin bill and started at third base in the nightcap, but he struck out in his first three at-bats before grounding into a fielder's choice in the ninth inning. Mayer is the organization's top infield prospect and posted a .265/.342/.465 slash line with nine homers in 43 games with Triple-A Worcester before being promoted, and he should receive plenty of playing time with the Red Sox while Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is sidelined.

Colt Keith 3B | DET
Tigers' Colt Keith: Playing time trending down
Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Though his absence from the lineup against a lefty starter (Logan Allen) doesn't come as much of a surprise, Keith could be at risk of moving into a part-time role now that Detroit's roster is getting healthier. Matt Vierling returned from the injured list earlier this weekend, and Parker Meadows (arm) and Wenceel Perez (back) are both in the midst of rehab assignments and could be activated from the IL in the near future.

Trey Sweeney SS | DET
Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Taking seat Sunday
Sweeney is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
After starting six straight games, Sweeney will hit the bench while southpaw Logan Allen toes the rubber for Cleveland. Zach McKinstry will get the nod at shortstop Sunday, but Javier Baez could end up settling in as the primary platoon mate for Sweeney once the veteran is no longer needed in the outfield.

Nick Kurtz 1B | ATH
Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Tweaks hip late Saturday
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said that Kurtz was removed in the 10th inning of Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Phillies due to a left hip flexor injury, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Kurtz went 2-for-3 with two walks, a run and an RBI before he was lifted for a pinch runner in the bottom of the 10th. Kostay labeled Kurtz as day-to-day, noting that the star rookie is set to be evaluated by the medical staff Sunday before a decision on his availability for the series finale is made.

Brenan Hanifee RP | DET
Tigers' Brenan Hanifee: Takes loss Saturday
Hanifee (2-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits over an inning of work to take the loss Saturday against the Guardians. He walked one and struck out one.
Working the top of the 10th inning with the score tied 3-3, Hanifee picked an inopportune time to have his worst outing of the season. Coming into Saturday, the righty had allowed only six earned runs all year and had yet to allow more than one earned run in any single appearance. Hanifee still has a strong 3.24 ERA despite the hiccup, and he remains a key member of Detroit's bullpen.

Gleyber Torres 2B | DET
Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Reaches five times in loss
Torres went 2-for-2 with three walks, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Saturday's 7-5, 10-inning loss to the Guardians.
Torres was effective from the No. 2 spot in the order and snapped a mini-slump in which he'd gone just 1-for-15 over his previous six contests. The infielder is enjoying a strong first year in Detroit, sporting an .806 OPS across 40 games. It would be his highest mark since posting an .872 OPS in his second MLB season back in 2019.

Miguel Andujar DH | SD
Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Delivers three-hit effort
Andujar went 3-for-6 with one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 9-6 extra-inning loss to the Phillies.
Andujar has hit safely in five straight games since returning from right rib soreness that kept him out of a couple of contests. He is 8-for-22 (.364) since rejoining the lineup, and he continues to carve out decent playing time between third base, designated hitter and right field, which is where he started Saturday before moving to the hot corner later in the game. Overall, Andujar has been excellent at the plate this season, slashing .320/.350/.435 with three home runs, 20 RBI, 16 runs scored and a stolen base over 39 contests.

Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Gets on base four times
Wilson went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and an RBI in Saturday's 9-6 extra-innings loss to the Phillies.
Wilson has four multi-hit efforts over his last six games, including Tuesday's contest when he exited early with a minor forearm injury. He's gone 9-for-22 (.409), but his double Saturday was just his second extra-base hit in that span. The shortstop's three-hit effort Saturday has him up to a .342 batting average this season, and he's added an .857 OPS, five home runs, four stolen bases, 11 doubles, 27 RBI and 27 runs scored over 50 contests.

Mason Miller RP | SD
Athletics' Mason Miller: Blows save Saturday
Miller allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out three over one inning, taking a blown save in Saturday's 9-6 extra-innings loss to the Phillies.
Miller hadn't received a save chance since May 10 versus the Yankees. The Athletics are 1-12 since that date, and Miller was part of the problem in this latest loss, serving up a game-tying home run to Max Kepler in the ninth inning. Miller has been scored on in five of his seven outings in May, surrendering 11 runs (10 earned) while adding a 13:8 K:BB over 6.2 innings this month. Those strikeout numbers show the flamethrower's talent, but he's in arguably the roughest patch of his young career right now. He's now at a 6.11 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB through 17.2 innings this season while converting 11 of 13 save chances.
