Rasmussen (13-5) notched the win against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out five.

The Rays scored seven runs through four innings, offering Rasmussen plenty of support to put the hurler on track for the win. The five runs allowed were his most since July 9 against the Yankees, but the right-hander still notably registered the win for a sixth straight start. Rasmussen will carry a stellar 3.01 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 138:25 K:BB over 134.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance against the Tigers.

McNeil went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-7 loss to the Royals.

McNeil started off the scoring in the first with an RBI double before coming around to score later that inning and then got an RBI single in a busy fifth inning for the Athletics. The 34-year-old got the start at second base after platooning at first with Tommy White since Nick Kurtz was put on the injured list (thumb). Since the All-Star break, McNeil has been swinging a hot bat with a .386/.409/.554 slash line and 17 RBI over 26 games.

Scherzer (1-6) took the loss against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out one.

Jesus Sanchez misplayed a ball in left field that was popped up by Richie Palacios, which helped plate a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but it was still a discouraging outing by Scherzer. The seven runs allowed tied a season worst for the 42-year-old right-hander, who had pitched at least five innings while yielding three runs or fewer in his prior three starts. Scherzer will take a career-worst 7.40 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:20 K:BB across 45 innings into his next scheduled start at home against the Royals.

Lugo did not factor in the decision in Wednesday's 9-7 win against the Athletics, giving up five runs on nine hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out three.

Lugo was plagued by a rough three-run fifth inning, when the Athletics had five hits, but he allowed only four baserunners the rest of his start. The 36-year-old has now pitched 14 straight innings without giving up a walk, but 12 runs have been given up in that stretch. The right-hander will take a 4.71 ERA and 1.38 WHIP into next week's start in Toronto.

Springs pitched 5.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits and three walks and had a no-decision in the 9-7 loss to the Royals on Wednesday. He struck out one.

Springs spent the minimum amount of days on the 15-day injured list for right hip discomfort and returned Wednesday with a solid 85-pitch effort. The left-hander surprisingly tossed his longest outing since May 22, even coming off the injury, but failed to break his 11-game losing streak. The 33-year-old is slated to pitch next week against Minnesota.

Manager Aaron Boone said after Wednesday's win over Baltimore that McMahon is slated to undergo X-rays on his left thumb, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

McMahon injured his hand while sliding into second base in the second inning, and he was eventually pulled in favor of a pinch hitter in the eighth. The fact that he was able to remain in the game for several innings after injuring himself is encouraging, though the Yankees will presumably wait to see the results of the 31-year-old's X-rays before determining his availability for Thursday's series finale.

Bednar struck out one in a clean ninth inning to earn the save Wednesday against the Orioles.

The 31-year-old closer continues to put his shaky start to the season in the rear-view mirror. Since the beginning of June, Bednar has a shiny 0.84 ERA and 0.56 WHIP to go with a 35:7 K:BB covering 32.1 innings. He's blown just one save during that span, now holding a 2.40 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 64:18 K:BB in 56.1 innings with 29 saves (32 chances) for the season.

Bassitt took a no-decision against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk in 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Bassitt fell one out short of qualifying for a quality start, but he still overcame plenty of traffic for a decent outing overall. The 37-year-old right-hander continues to get hit around, giving up at least six knocks in 10 of his 14 starts, but the six strikeouts Wednesday marked his second-highest total of the year. Bassitt will bring an uninspiring 5.08 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 46:26 K:BB over 67.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance in St. Louis.

Warren took a no-decision against the Orioles on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out five.

Warren threw just 50 of his 92 pitches for strikes Wednesday, so the lack of efficiency prevented him from working deeper into the outing. The 27-year-old right-hander continues to struggle since the start of June, posting a 5.77 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in his last 12 appearances (57.2 innings). Even though Carlos Rodon recently returned to New York's rotation, Max Fried's (elbow) stay on the injured list should buy Warren at least one more turn through the rotation next week against Houston.

Messick (9-8) took the loss against the Giants on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

Messick suffered a tough-luck loss, throwing 72 of 98 pitches for strikes while piling up 19 whiffs. The southpaw has now yielded two earned runs or fewer in eight straight outings, but he only has two wins to show for it. He'll carry a stellar 2.54 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 152:40 K:BB across 149 innings this season into a road matchup with the Angels next week.
