  • Bryan Ramos 3B | BAL

Orioles' Bryan Ramos: Back to Baltimore

The Orioles claimed Ramos off waivers from the Cardinals on Friday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Ramos has been bouncing around for the past month after he was DFA'd by the White Sox in January. Chicago then traded Ramos to Baltimore, but the Orioles then DFA'd the third baseman before the Cardinals claimed him and then designated Ramos for assignment themselves earlier this week. Ramos will provide organizational corner infield depth for the Orioles if he sticks around.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Twins' Pablo Lopez: Will have Tommy John surgery

Lopez (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery next Wednesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

It's a massive loss for a Twins team that was already thin on talent, as Minnesota will now be without its ace for the entirety of the 2026 campaign. Lopez suffered a torn UCL in his right elbow earlier this week and had hoped to avoid the dreaded Tommy John operation. With Lopez's season done before it even got started, the Twins will now head into Grapefruit League play with Joe Ryan atop the rotation, followed by Bailey Ober, Zebby Matthews, Simeon Woods Richardson and Taj Bradley.

  • Tigers' Eduardo Valencia: Cleared for all baseball activities

Valencia (quadriceps) has been cleared for all baseball activities Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Valencia has been dealing with a strained left quad but appears ready to play in Grapefruit League games. The 26-year-old backstop split the 2025 campaign between Double-A and Triple-A and slashed .311/.382/.559 with 24 home runs, 95 RBI and 64 runs scored across 433 plate appearances.

  • Edwin Uceta RP | TB

Rays' Edwin Uceta: Undergoes MRI on injured shoulder

Uceta underwent an MRI on his injured right shoulder Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Uceta had a setback with the shoulder when he played catch Thursday, so he had imaging done and will see a doctor Friday. Even if he doesn't have any structural damage in the shoulder, it will take him time to get ramped up, putting his Opening Day availability in doubt. When healthy, Uceta is expected to be in the mix for saves in the Rays bullpen.

  • Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Will throw bullpen Friday

Gipson-Long (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Gipson-Long has been dealing with a strained left oblique early in spring training but is making progress in his recovery. The right-hander appeared in eight regular-season games for Detroit in 2025, making three starts. He figures to open the campaign at Triple-A Toledo.

  • Rays' Chandler Simpson: Nursing hamstring injury

Simpson will not play in the Rays' first several Grapefruit League games due to a tight left hamstring, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Much of Simpson's value comes from his speed, so the Rays will proceed cautiously with any lower-body issue. The 25-year-old is in line to be the team's primary left fielder this season. He slashed .295/.326/.345 with 44 stolen bases over 109 contests last season as a rookie.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Looking good early in camp

Berrios has appeared to be fully healthy to begin spring training, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. "Jose is fully healthy. He's looked sharp," manager John Schneider said Thursday on TSN 1050's OverDrive. "His stuff is back to where it was probably two years ago in terms of velocity and his breaking ball."

The veteran right-hander is coming off a rough 2025 campaign in which he threw just 166 innings, his lowest total in a full MLB season since 2017. Berrios didn't pitch in the final week of the regular season or in the playoffs due to elbow trouble, but the Blue Jays will need him to be healthy to start 2026 with Shane Bieber (forearm) set to begin the year on the shelf. Berrios posted a 3.63 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 382 innings from 2023-24, and him regaining that form would provide a big boost to Toronto's rotation.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Poised to start at second base

Alexander is likely to be the Orioles' Opening Day second baseman in place of the injured Jackson Holliday (hand), Brendan Mortensen of MASNSports.com reports.

Holliday will begin the season on the injured list following hamate surgery, though his absence could be relatively brief. Jordan Westburg (elbow) had been under consideration for a move from third base to second base, but he's now shelved himself for at least the first month of the season. Acquired from the Diamondbacks via trade earlier this month, Alexander slashed .230/.323/.383 with seven homers and four steals over 74 games in 2025.

  • Coby Mayo 3B | BAL

Orioles' Coby Mayo: Could take over at third base

Mayo could be the Orioles' Opening Day third baseman following an injury to Jordan Westburg (elbow), Brendan Mortensen of MASNSports.com reports.

Westburg is set to miss at least the first month of the season due to a partially torn UCL in his right elbow. Mayo was primarily a third baseman in the minors before the Orioles had him focus mostly on first base last season. However, there is a clear need at the hot corner now, so the 24-year-old is in line to return to his old position. Mayo has mostly struggled at the big-league level, but the former top prospect showed signs of life last September, slashing .301/.393/.548 with five homers.

  • Keagan Gillies SP | BAL

Orioles' Keagan Gillies: Nursing serious quad injury

Gillies will be sidelined for at least six weeks with a quad injury, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Gillies had been in camp as a non-roster invitee and will now get a late start to the minor-league season. The 6-foot-8 right-hander posted a 2.68 ERA and 51:13 K:BB over 53.2 frames between Double-A Chesapeake and Triple-A Norfolk in 2025.
