  • Trey Yesavage SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Making rehab start Friday

Yesavage (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Dunedin on Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It was reported previously that Yesavage would throw a simulated game, but he will make an official game appearance instead. The right-hander is slated to go three innings in what will be his first outing since last year's World Series. Yesavage is coming back from a right shoulder impingement and will require multiple rehab starts before rejoining the Blue Jays' rotation.

  • Coby Mayo 3B | BAL

Orioles' Coby Mayo: On bench Friday

Mayo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Mayo started the first four games of the season but finds himself on the bench Friday for the second time in Baltimore's past three contests. The 24-year-old has gone 2-for-17 with a double, a stolen base, three walks and seven strikeouts in 20 plate appearances. Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson, who have been splitting time at second base, are both in the lineup Friday, with Alexander at the hot corner and Jackson at the keystone.

  • Tristan Gray SS | MIN

Twins' Tristan Gray: Second straight start at shortstop

Gray will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Friday's game against the Rays.

It's the second consecutive start at shortstop for Gray, who is 3-for-9 with a 1:4 in the early going this season. Brooks Lee should still handle the lion's share of starts at shortstop for Minnesota over the long haul.

  • Brooks Lee SS | MIN

Twins' Brooks Lee: On bench again Friday

Lee is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rays.

Lee started four of the first five games of the season but has now been on the bench for two in a row. The Twins will roll with Tristan Gray as their starting shortstop in Friday's home opener.

  • Hunter Bigge RP | TB

Rays' Hunter Bigge: Joins big-league bullpen

The Rays recalled Bigge from Triple-A Durham on Friday.

He's grabbing the roster spot vacated by the injured Garrett Cleavinger (calf). Bigge narrowly missed out on an Opening Day roster spot despite a strong spring training, but he didn't have to wait long for his first promotion. The righty could work his way into high-leverage situations as part of an unsettled Rays bullpen.

  • Rays' Garrett Cleavinger: Lands on IL with calf tightness

The Rays placed Cleavinger on the 15-day injured list Friday with right calf tightness.

Cleavinger has had a rough start to the season, posting a 7.71 ERA and 3:4 K:BB over 2.1 innings of work covering three appearances. If he is merely dealing with tightness and not a strain, he has a good chance to be activated when first eligible April 15.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Guardians' Rhys Hoskins: Not in Friday's lineup

Hoskins is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

The Guardians have faced all right-handers so far, but Hoskins has still been in the lineup four times in eight tilts. Kyle Manzardo will cover first base Friday and Chase DeLauter is getting a start at designated hitter.

  • Chase DeLauter RF | CLE

Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Returns to Guardians' lineup

DeLauter (foot) will start at designated hitter and bat second in Friday's game versus the Cubs.

DeLauter had to depart Tuesday's game against the Dodgers after fouling a ball off his foot. X-rays came back clean, and he's feeling well enough to serve as the DH as the Guardians kick off their first homestand of the season.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Aiming for mound work Saturday

Rodon (elbow/hamstring) hopes to throw off a mound Saturday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The mound session would be in a controlled environment like a live batting practice session. If Rodon gets through that with no issues, he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment next week. The veteran southpaw has been working his way back from offseason elbow surgery and hit a speed bump recently when he came down with right hamstring tightness. The hamstring issue does not seem to have set him back much, as Rodon could still be ready for his season debut before the end of April.

  • White Sox's Everson Pereira: Sitting out Friday

Pereira (ankle) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays.

Pereira was removed from the White Sox's last game Wednesday versus the Marlins due to left ankle soreness. It's unclear whether the injury is still lingering or if manager Will Venable simply preferred Tristan Peters in right field for Chicago's home opener. Pereira has started five games in right field this season, while Peters has made six starts in total (four in center field, two in right field).
