Cabrera (finger) will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Cabrera will be making his second rehab appearance since landing on the injured list in mid-August due to right middle finger blister. In his first outing in the minors on Tuesday with Iowa, Cabrera struck out two batters and allowed one earned run on one hit. The Cubs plan to bring Cabrera back as a reliever, but it's unclear how many more rehab outings beyond Friday he'll require prior to being activated from the IL.

Ashcraft (elbow) will be activated from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Out since late May with a sprained UCL in his right elbow, Ashcraft permitted two runs with a 6:3 K:BB over 4.2 frames across five rehab appearances. The 28-year-old was working in a setup role when he got hurt, but he could be eased back into high-leverage situations.

Ewing is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

The left-handed hitter will get a breather as the Giants send southpaw Matt Wilkinson to the bump. Nick Morabito will patrol center field in Ewing's place and bat ninth for the Mets.

Castro is out of the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Cardinals.

It marks the third consecutive absence from the lineup for Castro, who had started 11 straight and 22 of 23 games prior to this three-game playing-time drought. Castro has an .828 second-half OPS, so this could simply be about the Rockies giving younger players a look. Adael Amador will play second base and Connor Norby will be at third base Friday.

Harris is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies.

Harris finds himself on the bench after starting the previous 24 contests. The 25-year-old went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run Wednesday against the Nationals, which ended a modest six-game hit streak during which he batted .409 (9-for-22) with two doubles, three homers and two steals. Mauricio Dubon is manning center field Friday while Ha-Seong Kim starts at shortstop.

Tovar is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

It's the third consecutive time that Tovar has been out of the lineup when the opposition has had a righty on the bump, in this case Andre Pallante. It's unclear whether Tovar has fallen into a short-side platoon, but it wouldn't be a surprise given his woeful .209/.256/.333 slash line. Cole Carrigg will handle shortstop for the Rockies in the series opener.

Weaver revealed Wednesday that he's been dealing with a severe poison ivy rash for more than three weeks that's made it difficult for him to sleep, Jose Negron of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

The issue has not sidelined Weaver at any point, but he admitted that it's probably affected his performance. After collecting a 1.84 ERA and 45:11 K:BB in 44 frames for the Mets, Weaver holds a 5.79 ERA and 11:4 K:BB over 9.1 innings since being dealt to the Pirates. Weaver also had a sinus cold recently, but he will be available out of the bullpen Friday versus the Angels.

The Pirates optioned Eisert to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

The left-hander was called up by Pittsburgh on Tuesday and will return to Triple-A after firing 1.2 scoreless frames in two appearances. In 34 outings between the Pirates and White Sox this season, Eisert has a 6.00 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB across 36 innings.

The Pirates designated Bethancourt for assignment Friday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

The veteran catcher was added to the big-league roster Tuesday after being acquired from the Yankees in mid-August, but he'll lose his place on Pittsburgh's 26-man and 40-man rosters without appearing in a game. Bethancourt hasn't seen action in the majors since 2024 with the Marlins and Cubs.

The Diamondbacks designated Barrosa for assignment Friday.

Arizona needed to free an active roster spot for the return of Tommy Troy (shoulder). Barrosa is a plus defensive outfielder but has slashed only .180/.241/.302 over parts of three major-league seasons.
