Ruiz is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Cubs.

Despite getting on base four times in Sunday's series finale against the Reds, Ruiz will ride the pine Tuesday. Harry Ford will handle the catching duties and bat fifth for Washington's series opener against the Cubs.

Miami placed Stowers on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain on Tuesday.

Stowers exited Sunday's series finale early against the Angels with discomfort in his left hamstring, and the injury proved serious enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. The 28-year-old will be sidelined for at least 10 days for the second time this season, after also missing the first three weeks-plus of the campaign due to a right hamstring strain. The left-handed-hitting Stowers has batted .242/.327/.462 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 399 plate appearances this season. Miami recalled Graham Pauley from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

Cabrera (hamstring) is slated to make the third start of his rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Knoxville, MLB.com reports.

Cabrera will bump down a level after making his first two rehab starts at Triple-A Iowa. The right-hander, who has been on the shelf since June 24 due to a left hamstring/adductor strain, most recently covered 55 pitches over four innings Wednesday, striking out eight batters in that outing while allowing one unearned run on one hit and no walks. If he's able to build on that pitch count Tuesday, Cabrera should get the green light to return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start in the big leagues.

Eldridge went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 6-3 extra-inning loss to the Astros.

Eldridge doubled in the fourth inning before coming around to score San Francisco's first run. The 21-year-old hasn't been very productive in August, during which he's batting .233 with two RBI, two runs scored and a 21.9 percent strikeout rate in 32 plate appearances. Overall, he's slashing .248/.342/.426 with 37 runs scored, 28 RBI, 11 long balls and a stolen base across 310 plate appearances this season.

Gage (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Gage landed on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow strain July 4 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on Aug. 2. The southpaw will continue building up in hopes of rejoining the Giants' bullpen before the end of the season. In 27.1 innings on the campaign, Gage owns a 5.60 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 22:17 K:BB.

Martinez (elbow) is expected to make up to two more rehab appearances before being reinstated from the 60-day injured list, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.

Making his way back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career, Martinez has made two scoreless rehab appearances with Single-A Visalia, posting a 3:1 K:BB over two hitless innings. According to Gambadoro, Martinez is likely to be activated either Sunday in Atlanta or Monday in Boston. The 25-year-old could reclaim the Diamondbacks' closer job if he looks sharp, though Martinez may first be eased back in with some lower-leverage appearances.

The Marlins recalled Pauley from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

There's no word yet on the corresponding roster move, but Pauley's promotion could signify Kyle Stowers (hamstring) is a candidate for the injured list. Pauley has slashed a dreadful .190/.229/.300 with one home run and a 5:25 BB:K over 41 games with the big club this season.

Duarte (1-0) picked up the win Monday over Atlanta, walking one batter over two scoreless, no-hit innings. He didn't strike out a batter.

The Mets cruised to a win after posting a five-spot in the first inning, but starter Christian Scott lasted only four frames before getting the hook. Duarte was credited with the win after holding Atlanta in check in the seventh and eighth innings before handing the ball off to Kodai Senga for the save. Duarte has been stingy since rejoining the big-league bullpen after the All-Star break, and over his last nine appearances and 12.1 innings he's produced a 1.46 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB with one save and two holds in addition to his first win of 2026.

Baez has slashed .333/.412/.733 with four home runs and three stolen bases over his last 12 contests at Triple-A Memphis.

Baez had been in a rut prior to that, collecting just a .450 OPS across his previous 20 contests, but the slugger looks to have gotten back on track. The 23-year-old has played an even 100 games this season with Memphis, slashing .252/.324/.572 with 33 home runs, 18 stolen bases, and 8.1 percent walk rate and 29.3 percent strikeout rate. Top prospects promoted to the majors around mid-August will retain rookie eligibility in 2027, and the Cardinals might be waiting until that deadline before calling up Baez. St. Louis cleared a path in left field for Baez when it traded Lars Nootbaar earlier this month.

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in a 6-5 win against Kansas City on Monday.

Ohtani drove in the Dodgers' first run with a double in the third inning and scored the game-winning run on a Freddie Freeman single in the seventh. Still, the most notable stat of the game for the two-way star was his stolen base, which ended a 67-game span without a theft. Ohtani attempted just three steals during the drought, so he hasn't been very active on the basepaths despite reaching base at a .405 clip during the steal-less stretch. It was only two seasons ago that Ohtani logged a career-best 59 steals, but it's not all that surprising that he's become less of a speed threat given that he's battled a knee injury for the past couple months and has also had to focus much of his attention on pitching when healthy enough to do so.
