  • Joe Mack C | MIA

    Marlins' Joe Mack: Idle Sunday

Mack is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

The Marlins will give Mack a breather after he started behind the plate in the first two contests of the series. Brian Navarreto will fill in at catcher and will form a battery with starting pitcher Tyler Phillips.

  • Jorge Polanco DH | NYM

Mets' Jorge Polanco: Taking seat Sunday

Polanco is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Polanco will hit the bench for the Mets' final game before the All-Star break while Juan Soto gets a day off from playing the outfield as the designated hitter. Since being activated from the 60-day injured list July 7, Polanco has started at DH in four of six games, going 3-for-16 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run. He's not expected to be available to play first base anytime soon coming off injuries to his Achilles and ankle, and unless he's able to catch fire at the plate, Polanco could find himself on the bench once Luis Robert (back) returns from the 60-day IL at some point following the All-Star break.

  • Jason Foley RP | SF

Giants' Jason Foley: Activated from injured list

The Giants reinstated Foley (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The right-hander is ready to make his Giants debut after missing the first few months of the season while completing his recovery from arthroscopic shoulder surgery in May of 2025. Foley recorded 28 saves with a 3.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB across 60 innings for the Tigers in 2024, but he failed to make the club's Opening Day roster last year prior to suffering the shoulder injury. He's likely to open in a low-leverage relief role for San Francisco.

  • Jared Young 1B | NYM

Mets' Jared Young: Idle against southpaw

Young is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

The Mets will keep Young on the bench for a second straight day against another lefty starter in Payton Tolle. Eric Wagaman will serve as the first baseman once again and bat cleanup.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Mets' Bo Bichette: Sitting for third straight game

Bichette (leg/ankle) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Just as interim manager Andy Green hinted would be the case, Bichette will hit the bench for the Mets' final game before the All-Star break while he contends with general leg and right ankle soreness. In Bichette's absence, Zack Short will draw a third straight start in the New York infield. Bichette walked in a pinch-hitting appearance during Saturday's 4-0 loss and should be available off the bench again Sunday, setting the stage for his likely to return to the starting nine immediately following the All-Star break.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Resting up Sunday

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Alvarez will receive a breather for the series finale after he started the last four games. Luis Torrens will handle catching duties Sunday as the Mets wrap up their first-half schedule.

  • Rhett Lowder SP | CIN

Reds' Rhett Lowder: Returning to rotation

Reds manager Terry Francona said Sunday that Lowder will rejoin the starting rotation after the All-Star break, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

The right-hander was shifted to the bullpen last week after Hunter Greene was cleared to come off the injured list and will now re-enter the rotation following Nick Lodolo's (finger) placement on the injured list Sunday. Lowder -- who will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday's game against the Cubs -- has pitched well in his two relief outings with just one run allowed over five frames. He posted a 5.31 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over his 13 starts.

  • Tobias Myers RP | NYM

Mets' Tobias Myers: Sent to minors

The Mets optioned Myers to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

The right-hander continues to be shuttled between Triple-A and the majors, with Sunday's transaction being the fourth time he's been optioned this season and the third time in the past two weeks. Myers had a strong start to the year with a 3.25 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB across his first 15 outings, but he's now surrendered 22 runs in his past 11 appearances (10.80 ERA).

  • Zach Thornton SP | NYM

Mets' Zach Thornton: Promoted for Sunday's start

The Mets recalled Thornton from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of his start against the Red Sox on Sunday.

The left-hander went back to Syracuse after delivering a quality start against the Phillies on June 26, and he'll rejoin the Mets to start the final game before the All-Star break. In addition to that outing, Thornton made one previous start in the majors this season, giving up four runs across 4.1 innings at Washington on May 20.

  • TJ Friedl CF | CIN

Reds' TJ Friedl: Idle against lefty

Friedl is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

The Reds will keep Friedl on the bench for the second time in the series against another southpaw in Matthew Boyd. Spencer Steer will step in for Friedl in center field and bat third.
