The Pirates recalled Simon from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

Just three days after being sent down to Triple-A, Simon will reverse course and rejoin the Pirates to replace Jack Suwinski, who went on the IL with a groin injury. Simon has slashed .234/.299/.273 across 88 plate appearances in the majors between Miami and Pittsburgh this year and is likely to come off the bench most of the time while with the Pirates.

Chourio (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Chourio is already with the team in Toronto, but the Brewers will give him a full day to acclimate following a long day of travel. The center fielder has been sidelined since late July with a strained right hamstring. The Brewers gave him an extended minor-league rehab assignment until he looked fully confident running. However, he went 1-for-19 with eight strikeouts over five rehab games.

The Pirates placed Suwinski on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right groin strain.

Suwinski went 1-for-3 with a strikeout during Pittsburgh's game against the Cardinals on Thursday, but he'll now be forced to sit out at least the next 10 days nursing an injured groin. While he recovers, Ronny Simon will come up from Triple-A Indianapolis to replenish the Buccos' outfield depth.

Ritter is not in the Rockies' starting lineup against the Cubs on Friday.

Ritter will ride the bench for a third consecutive game, despite going 10-for-34 (.294) with five RBI since returning from the 10-day IL on Aug. 15. Orlando Arcia will start at second base and bat ninth.

The Pirates recalled Sisk from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

Sisk was optioned to the minors last Wednesday, but he'll now return to the big leagues to replace Kyle Nicolas, who went on the bereavement list Friday. Sisk has appeared in nine MLB games this season between the Royals and Pirates, giving up four earned runs while striking out 15 batters and walking six over 8.2 innings.

The Padres placed Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list Friday with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot.

Bogaerts fouled a ball off the foot during Wednesday's game in Seattle. He stayed in to finish out that contest, but testing revealed a fracture. The Padres have not yet revealed a timetable for Bogaerts' return, but the injury has the potential to knock him out for most, if not all, of the regular season. Jose Iglesias will take over as the team's primary shortstop.

The Padres recalled McCoy from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

McCoy will fill in for Xander Bogaerts (foot), who's being placed on the 10-day injured list. McCoy has gone hitless in five plate appearances with the Padres this season, but he's logged an .804 OPS with 11 homers and 17 stolen bases with El Paso. McCoy will likely compete with Jose Iglesias for starts at the shortstop position.

The Pirates placed Nicolas on the bereavement list Friday.

Nicolas will be permitted to miss 3-7 games while he tends to more important matters. Evan Sisk was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move and will take Nicolas' place in Pittsburgh's bullpen.

Freeman is not in the Rockies' starting lineup against the Cubs on Friday.

Freeman will be on the bench for the start of Friday's game while Yanquiel Fernandez serves as the designated hitter and bats eighth. Freeman has slashed .245/.311/.319 with 10 runs scored, five steals, one home run and seven RBI in 102 plate appearances since Aug. 1.

Bogaerts is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Minnesota after fouling a ball off his left foot during Wednesday's in Seattle, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan San Diego reports.

The Padres haven't said the foot issue is the reason Bogaert's isn't starting Friday, but it would make sense for him to be rested if he's still a bit sore. The club could have more on his condition later Friday. Jose Iglesias is handling shortstop and batting seventh in Friday's series opener.
