Griffin Canning SP | SD
Padres' Griffin Canning: Makes short rehab start
Canning (Achilles) yielded two earned runs on three hits and two walks across 1.2 innings in his rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A El Paso. He didn't record a strikeout.
Making the fourth start of his rehab assignment, Canning was expected to get further stretched out after tossing 67 pitches and 2.2 innings his last time out for El Paso on Thursday. The right-hander ended up throwing just 45 pitches (24 strikes) in Wednesday's outing before being lifted midway through the second inning. Canning has now turned in a 5.40 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 14:11 K:BB in 10 innings for El Paso over his four outings, so in addition to increasing his pitch count, he'll likely need to show improved form with the Triple-A club in order to secure a spot in the San Diego rotation once he returns from the 15-day injured list.

Drake Baldwin C | ATL
Braves' Drake Baldwin: Goes yard again Wednesday
Baldwin went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.
The second-year backstop took Zack Littell deep in the first inning, kicking off an eight-run, four-homer barrage by Atlanta. Baldwin has left the yard in back-to-back games and seven times in his first 25 contests this season while compiling a stellar .320/.391/.563 slash line, 23 RBI and an MLB-leading 26 runs.

Gregory Soto RP | PIT
Pirates' Gregory Soto: Picks up win in relief
Soto (1-0) earned the win in relief Wednesday against the Rangers despite allowing two runs on three hits over an inning while striking out three.
Soto entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Pirates had a 4-2 lead, but he surrendered that advantage after allowing a two-RBI single to Jake Burger, scoring Andrew McCutchen and Brandon Nimmo. However, the Pirates responded with four runs in the top of the ninth -- headlined by a three-run homer from Oneil Cruz -- which allowed Soto to walk away with the win. That said, this was far from his finest outing. It also ended a streak of seven scoreless appearances for the veteran, who nonetheless should continue to have an important role in the Pirates' bullpen going forward.

Masyn Winn SS | STL
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Regular treatment for back issues
Winn "continues to undergo preventative care" for a lower-back issue, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn spent some time on the injured list last season with back spasms, and he's also missed time this year with hip and shin issues. The shortstop isn't currently hurt, but the Cardinals "are seeking ways for him to reduce mileage," which could mean more days off like he had Wednesday in Miami. Winn got off to a slow start offensively this season but has been superb lately, slashing .387/.429/.645 during an eight-game hitting streak.

Braxton Ashcraft SP | PIT
Pirates' Braxton Ashcraft: Strong showing in no-decision
Ashcroft didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Rangers after tossing seven innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five.
Had Ashcraft received a little more support from an offense that woke up to score four runs in the top of the ninth inning, he could've easily earned the win after a solid outing. Ashcraft continued his strong start to the campaign with a fifth straight start in which he allowed two or fewer earned runs, and he's pitched at least six innings three times in that stretch. The right-hander will take his 2.43 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 29.2 innings into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Cardinals.

Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM
Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Coming back to majors
The Mets will recall Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse prior to Thursday's game against the Twins, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
It could mean Francisco Lindor (calf) is headed to the injured list, but the club has yet to confirm that. If Lindor is indeed sidelined for a bit and the Mets prefer to keep Bo Bichette at third base, Mauricio could get regular reps at shortstop. He would also be a candidate to play third base if Bichette handles shortstop, though Brett Baty could be first in line there. Mauricio had a three-homer game with Syracuse earlier this week and has gone deep a total of five times over his last five games.

Luke Weaver RP | NYM
Mets' Luke Weaver: Earns win in relief
Weaver (2-0) earned the win in relief Wednesday against the Twins, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three across 1.1 innings.
Weaver entered the game in the seventh inning with two outs and runners on first and second. He walked Ryan Jeffers to load the bases, but he closed out the inning when Luke Keaschall was retired on a popout in foul territory. Holding a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, Weaver recorded consecutive strikeouts of Matt Wallner and Royce Lewis. Weaver then allowed a single to Brooks Lee, but he would close the game out by striking out Byron Buxton, who had homered earlier in the game. This was Weaver's third straight scoreless appearance, and he seems to be leaving behind a woeful stretch when he allowed six runs on 1.2 innings across two outings between April 9 and April 11.

Clay Holmes RP | NYM
Mets' Clay Holmes: Goes seven frames in no-decision
Holmes didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Twins after allowing two runs on five hits and a walk across seven innings. He struck out three.
Holmes didn't look dominant by any means, as he tossed just 56 of his 88 pitches for strikes and only struck out three, but he got the job done en route to posting his second quality start of the campaign. Holmes has done a good job of limiting the damage every time he's on the mound, as he's allowed two or fewer earned runs while pitching at least five frames in each of his five starts in 2026. That translates to a strong 2.10 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP, although his 5.7 K/9 is below average. Holmes is in line to make his next start at home against the Nationals next week.

Dylan Dodd RP | ATL
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Officially placed on injured list
Atlanta placed Dodd on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left thoracic spine inflammation.
Atlanta has not provided a timetable for Dodd's return, but the nature of the injury suggests it could be a longer than minimum stay on the IL for the lefty. Dodd has been effective in two relief outings with the big club this season, allowing one run with a 4:1 K:BB over four innings.

Carlos Carrasco RP | ATL
Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Added to big-league roster
Atlanta selected Carrasco's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.
Carrasco has been excellent so far this season with Gwinnett, putting up a 1.71 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with an 18:5 K:BB through 21 innings. The 39-year-old is slated to serve in a long-relief role for Atlanta.
