Jarred Kelenic LF | TEX
Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Socks first homer of 2025
Kelenic went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.
The 25-year-old took Dylan Cease deep to lead off the top of the fifth inning and tie the game at 3-3. It was Kelenic's first hit of the season after an 0-for-4 showing in an Opening Day loss. Atlanta is counting on Kelenic to fill a strong-side platoon role in right field while waiting for Ronald Acuna (knee) to return, but he's hit ninth in both games so far and his fantasy utility is limited to deep mixed and NL-only formats.

Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL
Braves' Reynaldo Lopez: Escapes with no-decision Friday
Lopez came away with a no-decision in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Padres, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out one.
The right-hander didn't display the same kind of dominance or efficiency he flashed in his breakout 2024 campaign and threw only 58 of 94 pitches for strikes in his season debut, before exiting with the score tied 3-3. On the bright side, Lopez's velocity didn't seem to be an issue -- he sat 94-96 mph with his fastball most of the night and topped out at 98.1 mph against Manny Machado in the third inning. Lopez is scheduled to face another tough opponent next week in a road clash with the Dodgers.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Notches first save
Diaz struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning Friday to pick up his first save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Astros.
Diaz looked like his usual self Friday, striking out the first batter he faced and finishing the frame on 15 pitches while touching 98 mph with his fastball. There's no doubt that he's still locked in as the Mets' closer, and he should have plenty more chances to rack up saves over the next 160 contests.

Tylor Megill SP | NYM
Mets' Tylor Megill: Six strikeouts in win
Megill (1-0) came away with the win Friday against the Astros after allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out six batters in five innings.
Megill took a perfect game into the fourth inning Friday, but a quick pair of singles and a sacrifice fly from Yordan Alvarez gave Houston what would ultimately be their only run of the day. Megill needed 77 pitches to get through his five innings and averaged 96.4 mph on his 39 fastballs, which is a tick up from the 95.5 mph he averaged last season. Overall, it was a very good showing from the 29-year-old righty, and he'll get a chance to build on it during the Mets' first home series next week against the Jays.

Otto Lopez SS | MIA
Marlins' Otto Lopez: Slugs homer in loss to Pittsburgh
Lopez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and walk in a 4-3 loss to the Pirates on Friday.
With his team trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lopez gave the Marlins new life with a two-run shot to narrow the gap. The 26-year-old is not known as a power threat with just seven home runs at the major-league level over 419 at-bats, but he enjoyed a solid .270 batting average in 2024 and plays strong defense, so he should be a fixture in the Miami lineup.

Oneil Cruz CF | PIT
Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Homers, steals base in win
Cruz went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk, a stolen base and an additional run scored in a 4-3 win over the Marlins on Friday.
Cruz sent a 115 mph missile to right field for a two-run homer in the fifth inning, which extended the Pirates' lead to 4-0. He stole his second base in as many games as well and has the potential to go 20-20 again this year after hitting 21 home runs and stealing 22 bases in 2024.

David Bednar RP | NYY
Pirates' David Bednar: Escapes with save against Marlins
Bednar (save) picked up the save against the Marlins on Friday in a 4-3 win but allowed two runs on one hit and one walk. He recorded one strikeout.
Bednar took the loss on Opening Day for Pittsburgh and nearly cost his club again. The 30-year-old entered the ninth inning with a comfortable 4-1 lead but immediately walked Matt Mervis before Otto Lopez took the first pitch he saw and redirected it 418 feet over the center field wall to get the Marlins within one run. Bednar then retired the next three batters, preserving the 4-3 win. It's indeed been a rough start to 2025 for the two-time All-Star, who struggled to a 5.77 ERA last season. If he can't find his way, he may be in jeopardy of losing save opportunities.

Connor Gillispie SP | PHI
Marlins' Connor Gillispie: Takes loss against Pirates
Gillispie (0-1) surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits in five innings, with four punchouts and four walks while taking the loss to the Pirates on Friday.
Making his first career start in the show, Gillispie kept the Pirates off the board through three innings and was pitching well, but the tide turned in the fourth inning. The 27-year-old issued back-to-back walks to Oneil Cruz and Joey Bart before veteran Andrew McCutchen delivered an RBI double to left, which scored Cruz. Bart would come around to score on a sacrifice fly a few batters later, and the righty allowed a two-run homer to Cruz an inning later. Gillispie had just eight career innings under his belt before this outing and is filling in for injured Marlins starters Edward Cabrera (finger) and Ryan Weathers (forearm). He is tentatively scheduled to pitch next week against the Mets.
-
Mitch Keller SP | PIT
Pirates' Mitch Keller: Picks up win over Miami
Keller (1-0) picked up the win Friday against the Marlins, striking out four over six innings of work while allowing five hits, one walk and one run.
Keller was in control for the most part and picked up a quality start. The 28-year-old retired 10 Marlins in a row at one point before allowing his only run of the outing, an RBI double off the bat of Graham Pauley. Keller posted a respectable 4.25 ERA to go with a 1.30 WHIP in 2024 and begins 2025 as Pittsburgh's No. 2 starter. The right-hander is lined up for a road start against the Rays his next time out.

Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Reaches base four times in loss
McMahon went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles and a walk in a 3-2 loss to the Rays on Friday.
The third baseman was a problem for Tampa pitching and should benefit from hitting behind Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar in the Colorado lineup. McMahon has hit 20-plus homers every year since 2019 -- except for the pandemic-shortened 2020 season in which he hit nine in 52 games.
