Simpson was removed from Friday's game against the Marlins with left thumb discomfort, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The severity of Simpson's injury remains unclear, but the Rays may provide an update on his status shortly after Friday's contest. Ryan Vilade and Victor Mesa would likely operate as Tampa Bay's corner outfielders if Simpson needs to miss additional time.

The Padres placed Laureano (hip) on the 60-day injured list Friday.

The move comes shortly after the team announced Laureano is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his torn right labrum. Gavin Sheets is likely to move to left field for the remainder of the year, while Ty France becomes the team's new primary first baseman.

The Padres recalled Morgan from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

With Jeremiah Estrada (knee) headed to the injured list, Morgan will return to the big leagues to replenish the Padres' bullpen depth. The 26-year-old righty owns a 6.08 ERA and 2.10 WHIP through 13.1 innings in the majors this season and will likely be limited to low-leverage work as long as he's with San Diego.

The Padres placed Estrada on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Wednesday, with right knee inflammation.

Estrada gave up a run and took the loss during his last appearance Tuesday, and he seems to have come away from the outing with a knee issue. Manager Craig Stammen said Friday that he doesn't expect the right-hander's injury to linger, per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, so he could be cleared to return when first eligible. In the meantime, David Morgan will come up from Triple-A El Paso to round out San Diego's bullpen.

The Angels signed Porter to a minor-league contract Friday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Porter was designated for assignment by the Giants on Monday. He elected free agency after being outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento, and he'll get a new opportunity with the Angels and report to Triple-A Salt Lake. Porter has spent the entire 2026 season in the minors, where he is slashing .241/.292/.362 with 10 RBI and four extra-base hits across 65 plate appearances.

Crawford was removed from Friday's game against the Tigers due to a hand injury, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Crawford was hit in the hand by a pitch from Framber Valdez in the top of the third inning. The injury was severe enough for Crawford to be pulled from the game, and the Mariners should have an update on the veteran shortstop once he undergoes more tests. Patrick Wisdom is in the game at third base, with Colt Emerson moving over to shortstop.

Laureano underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn right labrum, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Manager Craig Stammen said that Laureano's surgery is expected to keep him out for 4-to-5 months, making it extremely unlikely that he plays again this season. If the 31-year-old isn't able to make it back before the end of the year, he'll finish 2026 with a .203/.286/.374 slash line alongside seven homers, 21 RBI, 23 runs and seven steals over 53 games. Gavin Sheets will likely take over as San Diego's primary left fielder for the rest of the regular season, which will allow Ty France to start regularly at first base.

Helsley (elbow) could start a rehab assignment as early as Monday, MLB.com reports.

Helsley threw a bullpen session ahead of Friday's series opener in Toronto. If all continues go well in his recovery from right elbow inflammation, the hard-throwing right-hander appears to be on track for a mid-June return to Baltimore's bullpen. Until Helsley is back in the fold, the Orioles should continue to deploy Rico Garcia as their primary closer.

Cabrera (3-3) took the loss Friday as the Cubs were routed 18-3 by the Giants, surrendering eight runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and one walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out six.

Activated from the IL earlier in the day after being sidelined since May 20 due to a blister issue, Cabrera ran into a buzzsaw in his worst performance of the season. The right-hander served up a two-run homer to Willy Adames in the first inning before things completely fell apart in the fourth, an inning highlighted by a grand slam from Matt Chapman. Cabrera got the hook after 80 pitches (49 strikes), and he'll carry a 4.99 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 53:21 K:BB through 57.2 innings into his next outing, which is set to come on the road next week in Colorado.

Soler (hip) is serving as the designated hitter and batting out of the cleanup spot against the Dodgers on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Soler was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rockies due to a left hip injury, but he has been cleared to play in Friday'' series opener. He has reached base safely in each of his last 11 games, and over that span he has gone 11-for-44 (.250) with three RBI and six runs scored.
