  • Sean Newcomb RP | CHW

White Sox's Sean Newcomb: Impressive out of bullpen

Newcomb threw 1.2 shutout innings Thursday, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters in a 5-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

The 32-year-old southpaw entered in the seventh inning, keeping the game knotted at 2-2 before Seranthony Dominguez fell apart in the ninth. Newcomb got off to a rocky start to 2026, allowing six earned runs over his first 10 innings prior to this appearance. Thursday's performance lowered his ERA to 4.38 through 12.1 innings and nine games with a 13:5 K:BB, and he has just one hold with zero wins or saves.

  • Daniel Lynch SP | KC

Royals' Daniel Lynch: Throws scoreless inning

Lynch picked up a hold Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect eighth inning during a 10-9 loss to Detroit.

The 29-year-old left-hander maintained a one-run lead on an efficient seven pitches (six strikes), only for Lucas Erceg to blow the save in the ninth inning. Lynch has now appeared in seven games, allowing only one earned run in 7.2 innings and recording at least one strikeout in each appearance.

  • Cade Horton P | CHC

Cubs' Cade Horton: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Horton (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Thursday and is expected to be sidelined up to 16 months, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Horton required a full Tommy John repair on his right UCL, which means he's unlikely to be ready to pitch again for the Cubs until the second half of 2027. The 24-year-old has authored a 2.66 ERA in his first 25 appearances (24 starts) at the major-league level.

  • Padres' Adrian Morejon: Collects hold in Thursday's win

Morejon secured a hold Thursday, working 1.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.

Morejon has had a bumpy start to the season after his All-Star campaign in 2025, when he pitched in 75 games and had career-best marks in ERA (2.08) and WHIP (0.90). The southpaw came into the season as the set-up guy for dominant closer Mason Miller and has three holds in eight appearances so far, but Morejon allowed at least one run in four of his first six outings. San Diego seems to still have faith in him, however, given he's been used in high-leverage situations each of his past two games.

  • Blue Jays' Braydon Fisher: Will work as opener Friday

Fisher will work as the opener Friday against the Diamondbacks, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The righty will work ahead of bulk reliever Eric Lauer. Fisher has appeared in eight games out of the bullpen for Toronto this season, posting a microscopic 0.93 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB across 9.2 innings. Fisher pitched Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and his season high for pitches in a game is 32, so he's unlikely to work more than an inning or two.

  • Coleman Crow SP | MIL

Brewers' Coleman Crow: Expected to make MLB debut Friday

The Brewers are expected to recall Crow from Triple-A Nashville to make his major-league debut Friday in Miami, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Crow has had a tough time with injuries, missing most of 2023 and 2024 due to Tommy John surgery and a large chunk of 2025 with a hip issue and a flexor strain. The 25-year-old is healthy now and has put up a 4.02 ERA and 18:5 K:BB over 15.2 innings and three appearances (two starts) this season with Nashville. Crow is filling in for Kyle Harrison (knee/wrist) but could be sent back to Nashville after the spot start, as Harrison is expected to avoid the injured list.

  • Yohan Ramirez RP | PIT

Pirates' Yohan Ramirez: Rocky appearance in loss

Ramirez allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two in the seventh inning of Thursday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to Washington.

Ramirez was charged with a blown save, allowing the go-ahead run at the time due to a wild pitch to give the Nationals a 7-6 lead. The 30-year-old has appeared in nine games for Pittsburgh, recording a 2.13 ERA in 12.2 innings. The right-hander has posted at least two strikeouts in seven of his nine relief outings, working more than one inning five times and picking up two wins and a hold.

  • Jaden Hill P | COL

Rockies' Jaden Hill: Scoreless inning in win

Hill recorded a hold Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning and allowing one hit and two walks with a strikeout in a 3-2 win over the Astros.

Hill was a steady presence for the Rockies last season after getting called up in late July. The right-hander has already appeared in nine games this season in a higher-leverage role and has only given up one run, way back in his first appearance March 28. He has issued at least one walk in four of his nine outings, however, producing a 7:5 K:BB in 7.2 innings.

  • Cam Sanders RP | PIT

Pirates' Cam Sanders: Joining big-league bullpen

The Pirates recalled Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

It's unclear at this time what the corresponding roster move will be. Sanders has yielded two runs with an 11:7 K:BB over six frames with Indianapolis. The 29-year-old got a cup of coffee with the Pirates last season, allowing six runs with a 4:5 K:BB in 6.2 innings.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Batting third Friday

Lindor will start at shortstop and bat third in Friday's game against the Cubs.

It's the first time since Aug. 5 of last season that Lindor has batted anywhere other than leadoff. Rookie Carson Benge has been elevated to the leadoff spot as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shakes up his lineup in hopes of ending an eight-game losing skid. Lindor is slashing only .184/.287/.289 in his first 19 contests this season.
