Single-A Kannapolis placed Carlson on its 7-day injured list Tuesday after the infielder was diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the tip of his left thumb, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Carlson sustained the injury Saturday and is expected to require 4-to-6 weeks of recovery time. His thumb will be placed in a splint initially while he waits for the fracture to heal. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, the 19-year-old Carlson has slashed .257/.386/.340 with no home runs, eight stolen bases and a 27:45 BB:K over his first 39 pro games.

Hoskins is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

Hoskins will head to the bench after he had started in each of the last six games, going a collective 4-for-20 with a home run, two doubles, a walk and two RBI during that stretch. Though he should remain a mainstay in the Cleveland lineup against left-handed pitching, Hoskins is still expected to play second fiddle to Kyle Manzardo at first base versus righties.

The Astros activated Trammell (groin) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Trammell was shelved for more than a month with a left groin strain but has been cleared to return after going 4-for-16 with a pair of home runs across four rehab games. With Zach Cole back in the minors and Joey Loperfido (quad/foot) having recently suffered a setback, the left-handed-swinging Trammell could see playing time versus right-handed pitching. He'll slot into the starting nine right away in Tuesday's game against the Rangers, occupying left field and batting fifth.

Garcia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

The left-handed-hitting Garcia will take a seat for the second time in three days while the Nationals face off against another left-handed starter (Joey Cantillo). Andres Chaparro will step in for Garcia at first base and will bat third.

Tena is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

The left-handed-hitting Tena will hit the bench for the sixth time in seven games, this time taking a seat against Guardians lefty Joey Cantillo. Two of Tena's recent absences came against right-handed pitchers, perhaps signaling that the 25-year-old doesn't have a firm grip on a strong-side platoon role. The Nationals may be more inclined to give a look at Curtis Mead as an everyday player at third base; though he's done most of his damage against lefties this season, Mead started against a right-hander (Tanner Bibee) in Monday's 10-2 win over Cleveland and went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs.

The Astros optioned Cole to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

Cole had started only three of the past seven games, and he's sported an untenable 39.6 percent strikeout rate in 18 games with the Astros this season. He's clearing off the active roster to make room for the return of Taylor Trammell (groin).

The Cardinals recalled Fernandez from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Fernandez has looked sharp during his time with the big club this season, posting a 1.17 ERA and 13:2 K:BB over 7.2 innings. He could get some opportunities for high-leverage innings if he continues to pitch well.

Jung (shoulder) will start at third base and bat cleanup in Tuesday's game against the Astros.

After getting the last two games off to recover from the sore left shoulder that knocked him out of Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Angels, Jung made enough progress in his recovery to reclaim his usual spot in the starting nine Tuesday. After a disappointing 2025 campaign, Jung has posted a career-best .819 OPS over 199 plate appearances to begin the current season.

Anthony (finger) took 12-to-15 dry swings without any discomfort Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Anthony had to hit pause on his rehab when he felt soreness the last time he tried swinging a bat, so it's a good sign that the pain was no longer present Tuesday. He will try to take some more dry swings Wednesday. Anthony has been sidelined since early May with a sprained right ring finger and there remains no timetable for his return, but he took a step forward Tuesday.

Rutschman is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.

Rutschman looks like he'll be receiving a planned night off after he started in each of the last seven games -- five at catcher, two at designated hitter -- while going 5-for-26 (.192 average) with a home run, a double, seven walks, four runs and two RBI over that stretch. Samuel Basallo will receive the nod behind the dish Tuesday, while Jeremiah Jackson covers the DH spot.
