  • Twins' Ryan Fitzgerald: Flexing power to close out year

Fitzgerald went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-0 win over Philadelphia.

The rookie outfielder has shown off an impressive power stroke during his limited action in the major leagues, going yard four times in just 43 at-bats this season. It remains to be seen if the 31-year-old infielder will stay with the Twins for 2026, but he's been useful enough so far to figure he has a chance to stick around as depth. Despite batting just .209, Fitzgerald has a .794 OPS with nine RBI and one stolen base.

  • Mick Abel P | MIN

Twins' Mick Abel: Dazzles in first win

Abel (1-2) earned the win Saturday against the Phillies, allowing three hits and one walk in six scoreless innings. He struck out nine.

Making just his second start since joining Minnesota, Abel delivered his finest outing with his new club against the team that traded him away this past July. The right-hander spun six shutout innings for the first time since his major-league debut back in mid-May, and he tied his season high in strikeouts. Given his prospect pedigree and sparkling season finale, the 2020 first-rounder should be under consideration for a back-end rotation spot for the rebuilding Twins in 2026 but will still likely need to prove himself during spring training. Abel will finish the campaign with a rough 6.23 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 39:16 K:BB over 39 frames.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Exits early Saturday

Alexander (wrist) exited Saturday's game against the Padres in the bottom of the second inning, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Alexander was struck in the wrist by a 88 mph changeup from Padres starter Michael King in the top of the first, and he was ultimately forced to leave the game in the following frame. Tim Tawa replaced him in the lineup and took over at first base while Ildemaro Vargas shifted to third base versus San Diego.

  • Michael Busch 3B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: Monster day in Saturday's win

Busch went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Cardinals.

The first baseman traded a cycle for a multi-homer game as he finishes out the regular season on a heater. Over his last 16 games, Busch is batting .339 (19-for-56) with eight of his career-high 34 homers on the season, along with six doubles, a triple, 13 runs and 14 RBI. The 27-year-old slugger has become a fixture in the leadoff spot against right-handed pitching, a role he should retain when the Cubs begin their playoff run in the wild-card round Tuesday against the Padres.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

    Braves' Matt Olson: Ejected Saturday

Olson was ejected from Saturday's contest against the Pirates ahead of the seventh inning, Grant McAuley of the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Olson was called for interference while running to first base in the bottom of the sixth inning, and he was ultimately sent home by the home plate umpire for arguing between frames. Eli White replaced him at first base versus Pittsburgh. Olson finished his night 0-for-3 with a strikeout at the plate.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Sharp in 11th win

Taillon (11-7) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over six innings in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Cardinals. He struck out eight.

The veteran righty continues his hot streak to close out the regular season. Taillon has given up two runs or fewer in seven straight starts since returning from a calf strain in late July despite a groin injury in late August that sidelined him for another couple weeks, going 4-2 with a 1.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB in 33 innings during that stretch. With Cade Horton (ribs) landing on the IL on Saturday, Taillon's importance to the Cubs' postseason rotation only grows.

  • Jordan Walker RF | STL

Cardinals' Jordan Walker: Flashes skills in Saturday's loss

Walker went 1-for-2 with two walks, a two-run home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Cubs.

The long ball, his first since Aug. 28, was the sixth of the season for Walker, while the steal was his 10th in 110 big-league games. The 23-year-old outfielder is still struggling to establish himself in the majors, but he's batting .280 (7-for-25) over the last eight contests with more walks (five) than strikeouts (four) as he looks to wrap up 2025 on a positive note.

  • Reds' Connor Phillips: Thriving in relief

Phillips (5-0) retired all four batters he faced Friday night against the Brewers, striking out three while picking up the win.

Since getting called back up from Triple-A Louisville, Phillips has posted a 1.45 ERA and 0.64 WHIP, striking out 26 while walking seven over 18.2 innings. Phillips has quietly been one of the success stories for the Reds, converting from starter to reliever while overcoming Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in the neck. Given Phillips's 33.0 percent strikeout rate and 98.3-mph average fastball, his role in the Reds' bullpen in 2026 could be elevated.

  • Cardinals' Michael McGreevy: Stuck with loss in final outing

McGreevy (8-4) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Cardinals were downed 7-3 by the Cubs. He struck out three.

A pair of homers by Michael Busch accounted for all the damage off McGreevy, who got the hook after 88 pitches (56 strikes). The loss was only the second for the right-hander since the beginning of August, and over his final 11 starts of 2025 he went 6-2 with a 4.16 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 39:15 K:BB in 62.2 innings, staking a solid claim to a spot in St. Louis' 2026 rotation.

  • Chris Paddack SP | DET

Tigers' Chris Paddack: Drawing start for Game 162

Paddack will draw the start on the mound in Sunday's game against Boston, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Paddack will replace Tarik Skubal on the rubber in Game 162 after Detroit secured a playoff berth with a 2-1 win over the Red Sox on Saturday, allowing the team the rest their ace in the regular-season finale. Since being acquired from the Twins in July, Paddack has posted a 6.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB in 42.2 innings over 11 appearances. He was moved to the bullpen earlier this month but should be able to provide the Tigers with a decent amount of length after tossing five innings of long relief in his most recent appearance Sept. 19 versus Atlanta.
